Sun in Aries

The Sun is in full strength, or in other words in exaltation, when it is placed in the sign of Aries [the symbol of the sign Aries, in Sanskrit Mesha, is two rams butting each other with their horns, which makes it possible to use the word «Rams» in the pluraleditor's note]. Either in the mind or in the actions of this person the qualities symbolised by the Sun will manifest. The Sun represents the depth and sincerity of the soul, attendance at solemn ceremonies and sacrifices — for example, temple services. The Sun symbolises eyesight, since it is the source of light for the world. A person with the Sun in Aries may possess a developed spiritual intuition; or he may see the presence of wide opportunities for improving people's lives. The Sun also symbolises political circles. A person may earn money in government service, may feel himself to be a leader, may feel that he was born for greatness.

The Sun also symbolises the physical body. These people are usually enterprising in activity directed towards the satisfaction of their senses; they are extremely active or impose their will on others, and they need their goal to include some material achievement. Aries is a «fiery» sign ruled by Mars, the planet of rivalry, and therefore a person with the Sun in Aries is described as «bearing weapons». This emphasises that such a person will be ambitious and will strive for glory. These people can speak expressively, energetically; they possess high self-esteem. Aries is a movable sign, and therefore such people are inclined towards an active, wandering way of life. Philanthropic, humanistic inclinations are also characteristic of them.

A person with the Sun in Aries is active, quick to understand, travels, is known to many, is wealthy, possesses fighting qualities, is strong, is marked by vividly expressed traits of character, is impulsive, irritable, possesses the qualities of a pioneer, and his fortune is changeable. These may be people of an idealistic rather than a materialistic cast. Their character is expressive, firm; they are exceedingly brave. Overestimating their own strength at times leads them into trouble. They may suffer from overexertion. (Tom Hopke)

Surya in Mesha (Sun in Aries)

A person with the Sun in Aries is active, well-known, travels a great deal, is wealthy, and is endowed with a strong personality. He is quick to understand, impulsive, and may be irritable. This is a pioneer, a fighter. His fortune is changeable.

The Sun symbolises political circles, and therefore a person with the Sun in Aries may be in government service, be a leader, feel that he was born for greatness.

The Sun is exalted in Aries, and therefore the person may possess a developed «spiritual» intuition; he may see wide opportunities for improving people's lives. This is a person of an idealistic rather than a materialistic cast. He is expressive, firm, brave. It is characteristic of him to overestimate his own strength, which leads to trouble. Aries natives often suffer from overexertion.

People whose Sun is in Aries are enterprising, ambitious, inclined to impose their will on others; they need their activity to include some material achievement. Aries is ruled by Mars, and therefore the ancient texts call people whose Sun is placed in Aries «a person bearing weapons». This emphasises that a person with the Sun in Aries will always be ready for a fight, will strive for glory and renown. They are good orators, speak expressively, energetically, and are endowed with charisma and high self-esteem. (Indubala)

The Sun in exaltation (uccha) — 10º of Aries

The Sun is exalted in the sign of Aries. This is the most favourable sign for the Sun. The fiery Sun feels excellent in the fiery sign of Aries. From such a position of the Sun a person receives very favourable results. Such a person will have an active way of life, strength of intention, excellent health, the highest moral qualities, self-confidence and so on… from excessive self-confidence they become a little proud. They may be poor or wealthy.

Regardless of material standing, the person will be a leader in his own circle. These people love freedom and do not like to submit. They also do not feel comfortable in ordinary positions. They strive to obtain leading posts. The striving to lead is not caused by a wish to be above others; it seems to such people that they have the innate qualities needed for that post. An exalted Sun is good for rulers or high-ranking persons. They have an analytical mind. They are religious, but do not believe in anything blindly. They cannot bear it when people disagree with them. They may be good military commanders. For the father of the native this is also a good position. Such a Sun is favourable for marriage. Such a position in a woman's chart gives a strong partner. If such a Sun is in conjunction with or under the aspect of malefics, or in a bad house (the 8th, the 12th), these results may not be vividly expressed.

An exalted Sun gives too straight a path. In our time too straight a path does not give material well-being. If a person is born with the Sun in exaltation in an ordinary family, he has to pass through many obstacles. Because he is too stubborn and does not want to make concessions, and also because he does not try to win the hearts of influential people by cunning methods. He waits until fame comes to him of itself. He considers that he deserves respect and takes no crafty steps to achieve success. Those around him perceive him as proud and do not let him rise. Again, this is what I have explained an exalted Sun gives when it is not connected with and not under the aspect of other planets. If it is with other planets, for example Mars or Jupiter, the person will be able to overcome the obstacles and will attain what he desires. (Mahesh Dharmadasa)

One born with the Sun in the sign of Aries, but not in the degree of exaltation, will become widely known and talented, will travel a great deal, will own a small fortune and will bear weapons. If a person is born with the Sun in the degree of exaltation (10º of Aries), he will be very wealthy, a commander in the army, and will have great glory and renown.  (Varaha Mihira, «Brihat Jataka», chapter 18)

Results of the periods and sub-periods of the Sun in the sign of Aries

A native with the Sun in Aries may not be a religious person in life, yet during the period of the Sun he will become more religious and inclined towards spiritual deeds. Also during this period, in one way or another (in the form of a gift or by will), he will receive from his father money, real estate or a considerable inheritance. This will be a time of happiness and satisfaction in his personal life and domestic affairs. (Dr. Shanker Adawal — The System of Dashas)
