Mercury in the 9th house
The results given by Mercury in the ninth house of the horoscope
A person with Mercury in the 9th house will be accompanied by fortune in his occupations, he will have highly placed friends. He may practise the religion of the Vaishnavas (the worship of Krishna). His name is mentioned in print, and he receives money thanks to advertising. These people can earn money by travelling or transporting cargo by sea. They speak well, they have an inclination towards charity. The father of such a person may be widely known. (Tom Hopke)
Mercury in the ninth house: The person will be rich, very kind, correct, wise, religious and will receive higher knowledge. A great interest in philosophy, metaphysics, art and music. He has a good wife and children. He may go abroad to raise his qualifications or work as a lecturer, a teacher, or engage in business. With the beginning of the mahadasha of Mercury the person's life will change, and he will become more religious. Good, warm relations with the father, and the father will have longevity. Mercury in the 9th house is a very good placement for a person who was born under the lagna of Taurus, Gemini, Libra, Virgo.
Retrograde Mercury in the 9th house: Perhaps in a past life this was a rolling-stone of a person. He lived now in one place, now in another, without any goal in life. Also, perhaps he was a religious fanatic who did not tolerate the opinions of other people and did not respect other religions. He had superficial knowledge, and the knowledge he did have he did not use in real life. He associated with indecent people together with whom he committed unlawful acts. The lesson consists in sincerely seeking knowledge, applying it in one's life and passing this knowledge on to others. The person must lead a simple way of life and respect other religions, even if they contradict his own religion. (Mahesh Dharmadasa)

The owner of the horoscope will have many children. He will become happy, religious, versed in the sacred scriptures, patient, rich and celebrated. His father will live a long life. A person with Mercury in the 9th house of the horoscope will love music, possess a high culture and be interested in meditation.
Comments:
The sutras cited above clearly assert that the placement of Mercury in the 9th house is very favourable for the owner of the horoscope and for his father. The assertion of sutra 64 about a large number of children is in this case entirely logical, since the 9th house is the fifth to the putra bhava, the house of children. Mercury in the 9th house (the eleventh to the 11th house) will give the owner of the horoscope highly placed friends and an inclination towards charity.
If Mercury is in its own signs — Gemini and Virgo, with Libra and Capricorn rising respectively, a powerful raja yoga is formed, the result of which will be a brilliant and outstanding personality, possessing great abilities, talents and a political mind, who will attain a high social position. Very favourable dhana yogas, granting wealth, fortune, prosperity, honour and the respect of other people, arise in the following cases:
- the lagna in Taurus, Mercury in the 9th house as the lord of the 2nd and 5th houses;
- the lagna in Gemini, Mercury the lord of the 1st and 4th houses;
- the lagna in Leo, Mercury the lord of the 2nd and 11th houses;
- the lagna in Virgo, Mercury the lord of the 1st and 10th houses;
- the lagna in Sagittarius, Mercury the lord of the 7th and 10th houses;
- the lagna in Pisces, Mercury the lord of the 4th and 7th houses.
Other opinions concerning Mercury in the 9th house:

The results of the placement of Mercury (Buddha) in the 9th house
If at the time of birth Buddha is in the 9th Bhava, then the person is respected for his help to others, he receives an education, is exceptionally happy thanks to the presence of servants, wealth and a son; he distributes alms.
Comments: Buddha [Mercury] is considered the Karaka [significator] of religious actions (rites). When he is connected with the 9th Bhava or the ruler of the 9th Bhava and does not receive a malefic influence, the person does good to others, possesses religious inclinations and performs yajnas, havanas or other religious ceremonies. Besides this, he studies philosophy and other shastras (ancient sciences) deeply and scrupulously. Therefore he receives wide fame. The placement of Mercury in the 9th house makes the person obedient and devoted to his father, helping others, giving alms and showing mercy. The person is also a good orator and always speaks out against the ostentatious luxury of religion.
