The Moon in the 10th house

The results given by the Moon in the tenth house of the horoscope

Chandra (the Moon) in the 10th house

The Moon in the tenth house: Popularity, benevolence, altruism, unselfishness. This is a comparatively rare position, indicating a person with a vocation, charismatic and creative. A long life and participation in religious or public organisations are possible. (Indubala)

The Moon in the tenth house: virtuous, an expert in various fields, changes his kinds of activity; travel, a comfortable and long life, prosperity. (Shri Govind Swarup Agarwal)

The Moon in the 10th house: This is the house of karma, profession and fame. A favourable Moon gives good results in these spheres. If the Moon is undamaged, the person will be very intelligent and kind and will perform good deeds. He is engaged in a good work and will obtain all kinds of comfort. He has to change his activity. Jobs where one has to be constantly on the move suit them better. They complete the tasks they have begun excellently. If Jupiter is in the 1st house, the Moon works very well here. Somehow the person will achieve success. Here too the person has a greater bond with his mother than with his father. (Mahesh Dharmadasa)

“Bhrigu Sutra” 2.54-60

A person who has the Moon occupying the 10th house of the horoscope will be educated, kind, warm-hearted, brilliant, famous and religious. A strong lord of the 10th house will increase the virtuousness of the owner of the horoscope. A ruinous conjunction of the Moon or a negative aspect to it will influence the development of an extramarital relationship with a widow and the slander of people on this account. This will happen in the 27th year of life. The owner of the horoscope will perform impious deeds and will meet with a multitude of obstacles in all spheres of life.

Comments:

The 10th house is the house of karma (public activity), honour, renown and authority. In the absence of a negative aspect to the Moon and with a fortunate placement of the lord of the 10th house, the Moon will manifest all the favourable characteristics of this house, and the owner of the horoscope will become respected and honoured.

The Moon from the 10th house influences the 4th, the house of education, therefore the owner of the horoscope will obtain academic knowledge. If the Moon is afflicted by a negative aspect, then the person’s life will be full of obstacles and difficulties. This is especially true if the Moon is not involved in a conjunction and there are no planets in the neighbouring houses. In this case, besides misfortunes, the owner of the horoscope will experience depressions and frequent inner doubts. With Libra rising, the Moon occupies its own house and sign. This placement forms a strong raja yoga, granting a celebrated name, greatness and power to the owner of the horoscope.

The 10th house is a house of the quadrant and an upachaya house, and the placement of the Moon in it speaks of a strong personality, uncommonness, popularity, originality and active participation in public or religious organisations. The horoscope of the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak, is an example of the placement of a benefic and full Moon in the 10th house.

Other opinions concerning the Moon (Chandra) in the 10th house:

“Brihat Jataka” — whatever the owner of the horoscope undertakes, he will bring to perfection. He will be granted virtuousness, wealth, intellect and valour.

“Phaladipika” — virtuous deeds, victory and success in any undertakings await a person who has the Moon occupying the 10th house of the horoscope.

“Saravali” — the happy owner of the horoscope will be devoted to his work, coping with everything successfully and having religious aspirations.

Note: All the treatises note favourable results of the presence of the Moon in the 10th house of the horoscope. But it must be remembered, as Bhrigu Muni emphasises, that for the full manifestation of the positive
characteristics two conditions must be observed:

• the absence of a negative influence on the Moon;

• a good placement of the lord of the 10th house
