The sixth house of the horoscope is responsible for: enemies, debts, poor health, illnesses, indispositions, hospitals, wounds, misfortunes, sorrows, anxieties, disappointments, scandals, mental disorders, bodily injuries, accidents, obstacles, punishments, imprisonments, prisons, harsh behaviour, the carrying out of severe orders, want, deficit, unprofitable investments of the partner, service, profit, material well-being, victory in competitions, stability of mind, forest, timber, stone, tools, the stepmother; the place of the six natural enemies of humanity, among which are Kama (sensual  desires), Krodha (anger), Lobha (greed), Moha (obsession), Ahankara (arrogance or false ego), Irsha (jealousy).

Karakas: Mars (opponents, enmity, legal proceedings, obstacles, injuries); Saturn (illnesses, sorrows, debts), Mercury (brotherhood, uncles).

Significations: The surface level — enemies. The subtle level — harm.

The lord of the 1st house in the 6th house: Courage, a royal status, material abundance, a weak immune system, frequent indispositions, the probability of debts. For rising Taureans and Scorpios such a position delivers one from illnesses, endows one with money and a high status, but activates ill-wishers. The person loves to engage in sport, wrestling or yoga.

The lord of the 2nd house in the 6th house: illnesses of the rectum and thighs, the acquisition of property by dishonest means, dubious and suspicious schemes, prosperity after the wedding. With a conjunction with an inauspicious planet there is a probability of financial losses because of thefts, the intrigues of ill-wishers and subordinates; a conjunction with a benefic planet grants material well-being. The 6th and the 2nd — expenditures on litigation and on maintaining health, a sickly wife, income from service;

The 6th and the 3rd — a gradual increase of income, a decent official position; the brother engages in sport; not the best position for the well-being of the maternal uncle;

The 6th and the 4th — a danger to health, rheumatism, accidents, poor well-being of the mother;

The 6th and the 5th — Dur yoga, the person worries about the health of the children, does not shine with intelligence, experiences difficulties in study, engages in sport.

The 6th and the 7th — the path of life resembles a roller coaster; the intrigues of enemies, a disapproving attitude to marriage.

The 6th and the 8th — a Viparita Raja yoga, which contributes to material well-being, but negatively influences health.

The 6th and the 9th — an unbeliever, a risk of accidents and illnesses during journeys, unprofitable deals with foreigners, weak health of the father;

The 6th and the 10th — not the best position for business and trade, a profitable profession, a good career, problems with obtaining an inheritance;

The 6th and the 11th — income only from service, tense relations with friends and with elder brothers and sisters;

The 6th and the 12th — a Viparita Raja yoga, which damages health; journeys abroad, stable prosperity, the person borrows much from others.

Observations concerning the sixth house and its lord

1. The behaviour of planets in the 6th house, which is a dusthana and an Upachaya house: if an aspect of a benefic planet is present,   Upachaya effects may be expected, otherwise the results of the dusthana will be felt more strongly.
2. Malefics in the 6th house contribute to a long life, but very often cause indispositions.
3. Rahu with Mars in the 6th expose the person to the risk of falling ill with appendicitis.
4. If the Lagnesha is in the 6th, and its ruler aspects the Lagna, the person cannot boast of robust health.
5. The same result is given by the position of the owner of the 6th in the Lagna and Rahu in the 6th house.
6. Rahu in the 6th from the Moon causes rheumatism, gout and so on. Physical illnesses are looked at by the 6th house, and mental disorders — by the 5th. In the presence of a connection of the lords of the 5th and 8th houses the cause of the illness lies in the psyche (anger, fear, desires, sorrows and  similar  causes), and with a contact of the 6th and 8th — in the physical body.
7. Saturn or Rahu in the 6th helps to suppress enemies and to prosper in life.
8. A conjunction of Saturn and Rahu in the 6th without the protection of Jupiter causes illnesses and excessive anxieties because of the intrigues of ill-wishers.
9. A person with a powerless benefic in the 6th house has a weak immune system.
10. A conjunction of the Sun and Mars in the 6th in a watery sign leads to accidents on water; in a fiery sign — to injuries from fire, explosive  substances or electricity; in an earthy sign — to railway and transport accidents; in a sign of air — to being caught in a storm, air crashes and so on.
11. In the period of a strong lord of the 6th house the person will show courage and valour, will defeat enemies, will earn well and share with others, and will also not be ill.
12. When the 6th house is occupied by an inauspicious planet, and its lord is in a bad conjunction, the person will be plagued by illnesses all his life.
13. A conjunction of the lord of the 6th house with Venus in the 1st or 6th house causes eye diseases; a conjunction with Ketu — pimples.

10. As a rule, illnesses arise with such combinations in the chart: malefics in any bhava except the 3rd and 6th; benefics in the 3rd, 6th, 8th or 12th houses; Mandi in a kendra, a trikona or in the 8th house.
11. If the ruler of the 6th house falls into a movable sign, the indisposition will not last long.
12. The Moon in the 6th house, afflicted by Mars and  Saturn, gives numerous problems with health and with blood pressure.
13. An aspect of a strong Mars on a conjunction of the Moon and Saturn causes haemorrhoids or surgical interventions.
14. Because of Mercury aspected by Saturn in the 6th bhava problems with the ears are possible.
15. An aspect of the lord of the 6th house to its own house eliminates debts.
16. A person with the placement of the initial lord of the 6th house in the 12th house defeats his opponents.
17. If the 6th house is governed by a malefic planet, which aspects the Ascendant, every step of the person on his path of life is accompanied by struggle.
18. Combinations that foretell danger from fire: 1) the lord of the 9th in the 6th house under the aspect of its ruler; 2) Saturn and Mars are joined with the lord of the 6th house; 3) the 7th, 8th, 1st or 2nd houses are under the joint aspect of the Sun and Mars; 4) a close connection of a malefic with Mars in the Lagna; 5) the Sun in the 1st, 8th or 7th house under the aspect of Mars.
19. Combinations that speak of danger from water: 1) an aspect of a malefic, placed in the Lagna, on the Moon; 2) a weakened or   debilitated Mars in the 8th  house, especially if it is in a watery sign.
20. Representatives of the authorities will interfere in the person's affairs if in his chart the Sun in the 6th house receives an aspect of Mars.
21. A conjunction of the lords of the 6th and 7th houses foretells legal proceedings connected with marriage, partnership business and so on; of the 6th and 4th — litigation over questions of property, means of transport, accidents and so on; of the 6th and 8th — the division of family property; of the 6th and 9th — litigation because of foreign deals or trips.
22. If the rulers of the 6th and 8th houses are both in debilitation, or their dispositors are marked by debilitation, a Raja yoga is formed.
23. When the lord of the 2nd house is placed in the 6th, and the owner of the 6th — in the Lagna, the person will spend much money on settling court cases.
24. A person in whose horoscope the 6th house is not empty, and whose ruler receives the influence of Rahu or Saturn, suffers from a chronic illness throughout his life.
25. If the Lagna or the Lagnesha are under the influence of Saturn and the 6th ruler, the person may end up in prison.
26. A person who was born in the dasha of the ruler of the 6th house will have a difficult childhood.
27. The Lagnesha in the 6th house delivers one from ailments and defeats enemies.

General indications: what can be learned from the 6th house?

• the nature of the person's probable indispositions — the planets influencing the 6th house will tell of this;
• obstacles and difficulties on the path of life, anxieties and worries;
• the chances of receiving unforeseen profits.

Usually benefic planets in the 6th house deliver one from opponents, while malefics increase their number. The person will be able to gain victory over foes in the following cases:

• when the Lagnesha dwells in good company or in a friendly house;
• when Rahu/Ketu fall into the 8th  or 4th house and aspect the lord of the 6th;
• when the 6th house is occupied by a malefic and receives aspects of its ruler and of the Lagnesha.
• if the 6th ruler is aspected by a benefic or by the lord of a good  house, or is in a favourable conjunction, or in a good house, and also if the owner of the 6th is weaker than the Lagnesha, then there is a probability of the person's enemies turning into his friends.

When the Lagnesha and the 6th ruler exchange houses or are both under the influence of Saturn/Rahu, enemies will maliciously pester the person.

Observations have shown that malefics in the 6th house give negative effects in their own mahadasha or antardasha, although they become extremely productive during their transit. It should also be noted that malefics in the 6th cope well with the affairs of the 6th house, and beneficial influences may soften their negative effects on other spheres of life.

Illnesses for which the 6th house is responsible: tumours, abscesses, madness, an imbalance of the Kapha dosha, exhaustion of the organism, fever, eye diseases, surgical operations, wounds, disorders of the urogenital system, dysentery, problems in the region of the navel and abdomen and so on.

Mars is the favourable karaka of the 6th house. The list of its karakatvas includes: success in competitions and in life generally, fame, courage, power, outstanding strength, seriousness, passion, anger, an increase in the number of ill-wishers, confrontation, brothers, landholdings.

Saturn is the malefic karaka of the 6th house. Its karakatvas include: illnesses, destitution, misfortunes, failures, laziness, hard labour, disappointments, injuries, a repellent appearance, impotence, deceit, humiliations, emotional sufferings, losses, old age and so on.

Afflicted planets having relations to the 6th house give the following ailments:

The Sun: boils, headaches, tuberculosis, problems with blood pressure.

The Moon: a disturbance of digestion, stomach disorders (sometimes in connection with intensive trips or an accumulation of fluid in the organism), anaemia, diabetes, tuberculosis of the lungs, nervousness, insanity.

Mars: fevers and inflammations in the muscles, problems with the skin, carbuncles, hernias, hydrocele, haemorrhoids with the necessity of surgical intervention.

Mercury: nervous and mental disorders caused by irritability and anxieties, bronchitis, asthma, rheumatism, headaches, pains in the limbs.

Jupiter: illnesses of the liver, problems with the abdomen, pains in the legs and feet.

Venus: illnesses of the kidneys, disorders of the sexual system, diabetes.

Saturn: nervousness, rheumatism, epilepsy.

Rahu: epilepsy, smallpox, leprosy.

Ketu: itching, measles, parasites, scabs.

Note: all attacks of pain, illnesses or accidents arise in the period or sub-period of the ruler of the 6th house.

Planetary combinations and injuries to the body

Mars and Rahu in the 6th — hydrocele (dropsy of the testicle). Mars, Saturn and Rahu in the 6th — a hernia. Jupiter and Rahu in the Lagna — a hernia.

Mars and Rahu in the 7th — disorders of the menstrual cycle (in the wife).

The lord of the 6th or 7th house under the influence of Ketu — problems with the lungs (phlegm and so on).

The lord of the 6th in the 7th under the aspect of Mars — chickenpox.
