The results given by Saturn in the second house of the horoscope
Saturn in the 2nd house: Weakness of the eyes, sudden changes in financial status and anxieties both in the family in which they were born and in their own family life. They are in contact with quite rich people, but must work persistently for their own profit. They earn well in large-scale enterprises. They need control over their habits in food and drink. Saturn in the second house: Not social, unfortunate. These people are inclined towards gluttony and improper behaviour during meals. Often they eat very slowly. They have pronounced thick eyebrows, harsh speech, speech defects and stammering. At some stage they may interrupt their studies. They also have to live far from home. They earn with difficulty, and it is hard for them to accumulate money. Clever, but often unable to find suitable work. They have to work a lot, yet at the same time they receive little. They may lose their fortune, and they will have a hard life during the period of the mahadasha or antardasha of Saturn: the person becomes a poor vagrant, he loses interest in life, problems arise in family life, the people around become enemies. In this period it is better not to make risky investments. If Saturn is strong and is under the aspect of Jupiter, the person may not receive the hard results. But all the same Saturn does not allow money to be accumulated; the money received goes away from him in an incomprehensible way.
Saturn in the 2nd house, as a rule, gives real estate, an inheritance. A good placement for longevity. On reaching 34-37 years, in the case of Saturn being in Libra, Aquarius, Capricorn the unfavourable tendencies are annulled. (Mahesh Dharmadasa)
Saturn (Shani) in the 2nd house
Saturn in the 2nd house: prosperity comes slowly, but steadily, and remains for a long time. Worries about finances. An afflicted Saturn drags one into debts, distorts beauty, deprives one of peace in the home and of family harmony, slows down thinking, but on the other hand rewards one with popularity and fame. A connection between Saturn, Rahu and Mars in the 2nd or 7th houses creates obstacles at the beginning of the life path, compels hard labour, deprives one of pleasure from work and causes irritability. A person with the placement of Saturn in the 1st, 2nd, 10th or 11th house of the horoscope has abilities for conducting a business providing various kinds of services: private security, personnel selection, personnel management, contracting firms and so on. Comments:
The important indications of the 2nd house — finances, family, eyesight and education — will be spoiled if Saturn is placed in this house. However the owner of the horoscope may become a well-to-do person if in his horoscope:
- the sign of Aries rises, Saturn is placed in the 2nd house in Taurus as the lord of the 10th and 11th houses;
- the sign of Taurus rises, Saturn is the lord of the 9th and 10th houses;
- the sign of Virgo rises, Saturn is exalted in the 2nd house as the lord of the 5th house. However in that case Saturn will also be the lord of the 6th house, which may lead to debts;
- the sign of Libra rises, Saturn is the lord of the 4th and 5th houses;
- the sign of Scorpio rises, Saturn is the lord of the 4th house, and also of the 3rd house, which may speak of work in harmful industries;
- Sagittarius rises, and Saturn is placed in the 2nd house in its own sign;
- Capricorn rises, Saturn is the lord of the 1st and 2nd houses.
From the 2nd house Saturn influences the 4th, 8th and 11th houses, which speaks of problems in family life, longevity and persistent work for the sake of profit.
Other opinions concerning Saturn in the 2nd house:
“Brihat Jataka” — the owner of the horoscope will be very rich, but will lose his fortune because of the disfavour of the king or the government. He will suffer from illnesses connected with the face.
“Phaladipika” — an unattractive appearance, dubious means of earning, poverty. The master of the horoscope in the second half of his life will leave his place of birth and will acquire wealth, means of transport and other objects of luxury.
“Saravali” — a person in whose horoscope Saturn occupies the 2nd house will have a restless, anxious face. He will become rich in the second half of his life, when he leaves his native places.
“Chamatkar Chintamani” — coarseness, unpleasant speech and the acquisition of wealth after separating from his family and moving to a foreign land.
Note: We hold the opinion that the views expressed by the “Bhrigu Sutra” are very logical and just. The financial prosperity that the other sources mention will manifest when Saturn is the lord of a good house, as was described in the commentaries.

The results of the placement of Saturn (Shani) in the 2nd house
In the case of the placement of Shani (Saturn) in the 2nd Bhava the person lives in the house of other people, is subject to some bad habit (for example, drunkenness), is abandoned by the people close to him, wanders through various countries (or through his own country), receives respect, the honour of the king (the government), possesses wealth and a means of transport.
Comments: It will often happen that the person is compelled to live far from the relatives represented by the Bhava [house] where Shani [Saturn] is placed. Besides this, the person will have to make efforts to achieve the goal represented by the Bhava occupied by Shani, also being far from his close relatives; he will obtain success only in “other places”, far away. It is precisely for this reason that Pandit Dhundhiraj gave such results for Shani being in the 2nd Bhava. Besides, the placement of Shani in the 2nd Bhava makes the person thrifty, a sharpness will be observed in his speech, and there is a probability of an illness in the mouth. According to Shri Mantreshwara, if Shani occupies the 2nd Bhava, the person is unattractive.
