The results given by Jupiter in the eighth house of the horoscope
Jupiter in the 8th house: this is an unfavourable place for Jupiter. Such a placement may bring longevity (if it is not damaged), but problems with health often arise. He will have to go through many problems, financial difficulties, humiliation, failures. It is difficult for such a person to rise to a high position in society. He has to work in low posts in subordination to others. He does not feel support and recognition from society, and he also has no desire to declare himself. He may be a good researcher or a teacher of secret knowledge. A woman may receive wealth through her husband or an inheritance from relatives. He/she is not content with their partner. In the “Saravali” it is said that Jupiter in the 8th house gives relations with immoral women. A person with Jupiter in the 8th house dies without suffering. Likewise a person dies without suffering when transiting Jupiter moves through the 8th house. As in the 6th house, here too it is undesirable to have Jupiter as the ruler of a favourable house. The indications of those houses worsen. Jupiter in the 8th house gives an interest in esoteric (sorcerous) affairs. It may not give negative results if it is in its own sign (Sagittarius, Pisces) or in the sign of exaltation (Cancer). (Mahesh Dharmadasa)

Jupiter in the 8th house: a long life, a peaceful death, a strong sexual attachment or an insatiable sexual appetite, a secret source of wealth. The person will be very well-to-do if the Lagnesha Jupiter falls into the 8th house — that is, for rising Sagittarius and Pisces. If Jupiter is in a panaphara (the 2nd, 5th, 8th and 11th houses) — the later period of life is favourable. (Shri Govind Swarup Agarwal)
“Bhrigu Sutra” 5.38-43
A person who has Jupiter in the 8th house of the horoscope will live a short life and will engage in low activity. In the case of a conjunction of Jupiter with an inauspicious planet the owner of the horoscope will have dubious principles. When the lord of the 8th house is joined with a benefic planet and is placed in the 8th house, a long life should be expected. If the lord of the house is weak — life will be short. When the lord of the 8th house is joined with a malefic planet, the owner of the horoscope will have illicit relations with widows after the 17th year of his life. In the case of Jupiter being in its own sign or in the sign of exaltation, a long life, good health, holiness of character, education, a knowledge of the Vedas and the shastras are expected.
Comments:
The sutras give unfavourable characteristics of this position of Jupiter. However, being the dhana-karaka and influencing the 2nd house, the dhana bhava, Jupiter gives wealth to the owner of the horoscope. This can be said with even greater confidence if the 2nd house falls in the sign of Sagittarius or Pisces. In that case Jupiter is the lord of the dhana bhava and, being in the 8th, aspects it, making it very strong. In confirmation a quotation from the “Jataka-desha-marga” (1.32) may be adduced: “Whatever bhava (house) is aspected or occupied by its own lord, and also by any of the beneficial planets, its prosperity is assured”.
Besides, one may recall the statement of Kalidasa quoted in the previous commentaries. Many respected astrologers, including Dr K. N. Rao, consider that Jupiter, Venus and Saturn, being placed in the 8th house, cause arishta-bandhas, protective influences in the horoscope. Jupiter is the gyana-karaka and, influencing the 4th house (education), it gives a honed intellect inclined towards philosophy and the possibility of obtaining a good education.
We have allowed ourselves to make these additions to the sutras, relying on the fundamental rules of the jyotisha shastra and on our own practical experience. In conclusion it may be noted that if Jupiter is the lord of a kendra or a trikona, then its placement in a dusthana will weaken the favourable characteristics of those
houses.
Other opinions concerning Jupiter in the 8th house:
“Brihat Jataka”— the owner of the horoscope will be low and base.
“Phaladipika” — poverty, a subordinate position, impious deeds and a long life.
“Saravali” — a person with such a placement of Jupiter will live long, but will live in humiliation, waiting upon others. He will have illicit relations with fallen women or women of the lower class.
“Chamatkar Chintamani” — the owner of the horoscope will not live in his father's house for a long time. He will have poor health. After his death he will depart to Vaikuntha.
Note: The “Bhrigu Sutra” expresses the opinion of a short life of the owner of the horoscope, whereas the “Saravali” and the “Phaladipika” hold the opposite view. We suppose that benefic planets in the 8th house, if they are not afflicted, ought to contribute to an increase in the length of life.
The 8th house is the most mystical house, speaking of death, of previous and future incarnations. A very interesting remark is made by the “Chamatkar Chintamani” that the owner of Jupiter in the 8th house will depart after his death to Vaikuntha — the spiritual planet, the abode of Vishnu, in other words, will attain liberation — moksha. This cannot be confirmed by earthly experience, and it remains for the owner of the horoscope only to hope that it is indeed so. But we shall allow ourselves to express a doubt about this, since Jupiter in the 8th house, apart from a placement in its own signs and in exaltation, gives bad inclinations and a pull towards sinful activity, and, consequently, karmic consequences, without overcoming which it is impossible to attain moksha.

The results of the placement of Jupiter (Guru) in the 8th house
In the case of the placement of the god of speech (that is, Guru) in the Bhava of longevity (the 8th Bhava), the person is an employee, ignoble (dishonest and unethical), exceedingly modest and poor, notices shortcomings (perceptive), ill-bred, lazy, and he has a weak body.
Comments: Guru [Jupiter] is considered the Karaka [significator] of the ability to discriminate, and also the indicator of learning, of a strong body and so on. If he is placed in the 8th Bhava [house], then it is entirely natural that the person will have a lack of these qualities. Because of the placement of Jupiter in the 8th house the person will not have innate strength and abilities, he will be impolite (discourteous), on account of which there is a great probability of his hostile attitude towards noble people, towards his father and so on; and he will not have the patronage or the help of eminent people. Such a person is, as a rule, sickly, unhealthy. He speaks out against the traditions and customs of his family.
Varaha Mihira said that such a person is ignoble (low), and according to Kalyana Varma he suffers from insults.
