The Sun in the twelfth house gives losses of property and much expenditure. These people have frequent trips to other countries. In the dasha period of the Sun they may develop problems with the law. Diseases of the eyes may arise and eyesight may deteriorate. (Mahesh Dharmadasa)
“Bhrigu Sutra” 1.103-110
In his 36th year of life the owner of the horoscope will suffer an inflammation of the appendix. He will have dubious morals, will spend money on impious actions and will bring upon himself a loss of prosperity. He will be accused of killing a cow, and he will live far from his homeland. A conjunction of the Sun with a favourable and strong planet or planets will grant the owner of the horoscope the blessing of God. He will also obtain enjoyment from sexual relations. With a conjunction of the Sun with an unfavourable planet the owner of the horoscope will be inordinately wasteful and deprived of sexual pleasures. If the Sun is conjunct with the lord of the 6th house, a disease of leprosy is possible, but with a favourable aspect to the Sun this may be avoided. The presence of the Sun in the 12th house speaks of sinful inclinations and of a large number of diseases.
Comments:
The 12th house is the most malefic of the dusthanas, the house of losses and restrictions. When a ruinous planet is in the 12th house, all its negative characteristics are revealed, if at the same time there are no benefic planets in the 12th house. The owner of the horoscope will have poor eyesight, and indecision, weakness of character, an inability
to lead, wastefulness and extravagance will manifest. As the pitri karaka, the Sun in the 12th house will give an early separation from the father. A person with such a horoscope will love to travel, to visit other countries, and will strive to live in secluded or unusual places. He may outlive his child, since
the 12th house is the eighth (the maraka sthana) counting from the 5th house, the house of children, but for this event to occur a number of factors, such as the affliction of the 5th house, of the putra karaka Jupiter and of the lord of the 5th house, must be present in the horoscope. One of the characteristics of the 12th house is satisfaction from sexual relations, and Bhrigu Muni considers this question in detail.
The 12th house speaks of the future life and, consequently, of the karma which is being accumulated now. A ruinous Sun in it may speak of immorality, an inclination towards amoral deeds, disgrace and dishonour. Bhrigu Muni writes that the owner of the horoscope “will be accused of killing a cow”. In the Vedic tradition the killing of a cow is equated with the killing of a brahmin (a priest), since the cow is considered one of the seven mothers of a human being, along with the mother who gave birth, the one who nursed, the one who brought up, the wife of a brahmin and the wife of the spiritual teacher. The seventh mother of a human being is considered to be the Earth. A crime or negative actions against one’s mothers, according to the sacred scriptures, lead to heavy karmic consequences.
Besides the negative characteristics, the Sun in the 12th house endows the person with an interest in spiritual knowledge, success in occult practices, renunciation of worldly affairs, and indifference to fame and material success. For the manifestation of the favourable indications of the 12th house the importance of a conjunction of the Sun with good planets is especially emphasised. Besides this, if the Sun is in the sign of Leo, as the lord of the 12th house in the 12th, viparita raja yoga is formed, which gives quite favourable results

“Brihat Jataka” — degradation of the personality.
“Phaladipika” — the owner of the horoscope will be unfriendly towards his father, deprived of wealth and children and will suffer from diseases of the eyes.
“Saravali” — dishonesty, weakness, hostility towards the father and childlessness.
“Chamatkar Chintamani” — the life of the owner of the horoscope will pass in one place in constant care for earnings. But long trips promise him the acquisition of considerable wealth. Diseases of the eyes are possible.

The results of the placement of the Sun in the 12th house
If Surya occupies the 12th Bhava, then the person has weak eyesight, his ideas do not agree with the ideas of his father, and his reason is inclined towards behaviour which is opposite to the proper one (that is, his thinking is opposed to any proposal and idea).
Comments: As a rule, all the authors on Vedic astrology are unanimous in predicting unfavourable results of the placement of Surya [the Sun] in the 12th Bhava [house]. Usually with Surya in the 12th Bhava the person gets problems with the eyes, pain in the body, troubles for his uncle, and losses and problems while travelling. If the Sun occupies the 12th house, then the person goes abroad in order to obtain an education there. The person encounters various troubles on the part of the government. His thoughts contradict religion and ethics. People with such a placement of the Sun in the birth chart are selfless, possess a spirit of self-renunciation <of the material world> and an inclination towards anger, and sometimes behave as if drunk. If the Sun in the 12th house is weak and devoid of strength, then the person may suffer from some disease of the kidneys, although this disease is not particularly severe. Besides this, the person encounters failure in politics again and again and may end up in prison.
The Sun in the twelfth house — marana avastha
The placement of planets in certain houses leads to their strong weakening. They lose their vitality and, consequently, become incapable of manifesting their functional and natural characteristics. Such a placement is known as the marana avastha of a planet, which in literal translation means “a state resembling death”.
Besides other meanings, the 12th house shows the pleasures of the bed, which Venus personifies. The Sun is the protector of Dharma, therefore it is also the karaka of the 9th house. In the 12th house the karaka of dharma, the Sun, falls into the place of the pleasures of the bed. The 12th house is the house of exaltation of Venus in the natural Zodiac. Wherever Venus (the indicator of sex, desires and passions) is strong, there the Sun is weakened, because the natural behaviour of the Sun is to avoid material pleasures and to perform the duties of maintaining Dharma. In the “places of pleasure” the Sun cannot accomplish this, since lust is the strongest enemy of spirituality.
The results of the periods and sub-periods of the Sun in the 12th house of the horoscope
The Sun in the twelfth house gives disputes with the father, diseases of the eyes, the loss of wealth, poor health of the children, an unlucky father, wanderings and tiring journeys, financial strain, and losses of energy and vital forces.
The main period (Maha dasha) of the Sun in the 12th house: grief, monetary losses, and also losses of children, women, lands and parents, sinful activity, journeys from place to place, fears and apprehension of the authorities and of poisons, diseases of the feet, quarrels over study and discussions, pleasure from friendship, losses of horses.
