Ketu in the 5th house
The results given by Ketu in the fifth house of the horoscope
Ketu in the 5th house. A person with such a placement may have few children, may be interested in the reading of prayers or mantras, may have a predisposition towards stomach illnesses or allergies, may lose money because of bad investments. These people may be unsociable, but well educated. The classical texts note that these people will be intelligent, persistent in work, will lose their reason under the influence of emotions or else be constantly in a state of anxiety. (Tom Hopke)
Ketu in the 5th house, Rahu in the 11th house
Rahu in the 11th house is good for the fulfilment of all desires. But Ketu in the 5th house is not favourable for the birth of children. It is difficult for them to have children. If there are children, difficult relations will develop with them. The 5th house shows romance and love affairs. Ketu here does not allow one to experience enjoyment in love. Love relationships are interrupted for some reason. The person falls into depression; for a long time he cannot forget his past relationships. In love they do not feel a return from their partner.
Rahu strives to fulfil its desires by the easiest means. The 11th house is responsible for the fulfilment of desires. Therefore for Rahu this is the very best place. Rahu in the 11th house gives great material growth when the mahadasha or antardasha of Rahu begins. It is not enough simply to have Rahu in the 11th house. In order to receive its effects, it is important that the Mahadasha of Rahu should begin at an active age of the person. Often this person is born the eldest in the family. In the ‘Jataka Parijata’ it is written that if Rahu is in the 3rd, 6th, 11th house under the aspect of a benefic planet, all the harmful influence disappears “as cotton is carried away by the wind”. (Mahesh Dharmadasa)
Ketu in the 5th house
Ketu in the 5th house: a changeable mind, vicious thoughts, an immoral nature, constant inner torments and anxieties. Has a good post. Prone to stomach illnesses, complains of an imbalance of the Vata dosha. Separation from children or childlessness. (Shri Govind Swarup Agarwal)
Ketu in the 5th house, Rahu in the 11th house: the karmic task
This combination also prompts the person to rush from one extreme to another. An illustration of this placement of the nodes may be the Phoenix, reborn from the ashes.
As often happens with the placement of Ketu in the first half of the horoscope, the first half of life brings little joy. As a rule, there is a break in the process of formal education, even if under social pressure the native successfully finishes some educational institution.
When Ketu is strong, it gives the person a very perceptive mind. Such people receive knowledge rather from within through some mystical process than from without.
If the lord of the Lagna joins Ketu in the 5th house, then the native prefers platonic love to all kinds of love. As a rule, in youth the native meets with disappointment in love, which prompts him to relate negatively to love as such.
This placement of Ketu is not very favourable for the birth and raising of offspring, except in those cases where the 5th house is very strong and receives favourable aspects, especially from Jupiter. In women's charts Ketu in the 5th indicates a difficult childbirth.
The placement of Rahu in the 11th house is considered favourable, since it allows all the native's desires in this life to be fulfilled, but, as a rule, this happens after 40 years.
Rahu in the 11th makes the native ambitious and if something does not work out for him, he is greatly upset. But on the whole, Rahu in this position strengthens such indications of the 11th house as purposefulness, expectations, elder relatives or friends, sources of income, philanthropy, idealism, the ability to share, relations in the collective.
Elder brothers and sisters (if there are any), as a rule, become a source of income for the native (or on the contrary, he helps them to obtain profit), if the other indications of the horoscope confirm this. Rahu in the 11th is a source of great income, but this must be confirmed by other indications of the chart.
The karmic task with such a placement of the nodes is to balance egoism and the interests of the collective, personal ambitions and public goals; to learn to achieve results and to share them. Friendship is a key link in the life of such people, and this should help to overcome excessive egoism. If this egoism is not transformed, this may strike the native himself, since those who help him to achieve his goals may become disappointed in him and part with him because of his egoism. It has been noticed that if such a person receives large profits by dishonest means, they are quickly spent in not the best way.

“Bhrigu Sutra” 8.11-13
Childlessness or the loss of children as a consequence of the wrath of the Serpent god awaits the owner of the horoscope. After performing the puja of Naga-pratima he will be rewarded with children. The owner of the horoscope will be subjected to the wrath of the king or the government, will commit impious deeds, will live in bad places and will suffer from vata disorders.
Other opinions concerning Rahu or Ketu in the 5th house:
“Phaladipika”: Ketu in the 5th house — the loss of children, an absence of wisdom and a cruel disposition.
“Chamatkar Chintamani”: Ketu in the 5th house — illnesses of the stomach, a small number of children. Despite his boldness, the owner of the horoscope will be in a dependent position from other people.
Note: Bhrigu Muni gives the same characteristics for the placement of Rahu and Ketu in various houses. His opinion is based on the fact that these planets are always in the seventh house from each other and both exert an influence on the house. However the other classical texts, apart from the “Brihat Jataka” and the “Saravali”, which do not describe the results of the placement of the shadow planets in the houses of the horoscope, hold a different opinion.
We should like to add several important remarks concerning the placement of Rahu and Ketu in the houses of the horoscope. Concerning the characteristics of these planets there are three main opinions: 1) they act as the lord of the sign that they occupy, 2) their nature is like that of Mars and Saturn, and also 3) the view of Kalidasa given below. An experienced astrologer intuitively understands what influences the shadow planets conduct when he analyses a horoscope or draws up forecasts.
Relying on the famous classical work of Kalidasa, the “Uttara Kalamrita”, it may be said that, being shadow planets, these planets are not regarded as the lords of any houses or signs. If Rahu and Ketu are in conjunction (in the same sign) with a planet, then they take on its qualities, become conductors of its energy, and in their periods, or bhuktis, act like that planet. When the shadow planets do not enter into a conjunction — they give the results of the planet aspecting them. And only when Rahu and Ketu are neither joined nor aspected by planets do they act as the lord of the sign in which they are placed.
If one of the two nodes and the lord of a triad are placed in conjunction in the 9th or 10th houses or if one of them is in the 9th, and the other in the 10th, a favourable yoga is formed, which will bring prosperity to the owner of the horoscope. If at the same time a malefic planet enters into a conjunction with or aspects one of the shadow planets, then the bhukti [sub-period] of the yoga-karaka will prove unfavourable.
And a last remark. Rahu and Ketu become beneficial when they occupy the positions of a triad or of a kendra from the lagna. The shadow planets also prove beneficial when they are joined with the lords of a house of a triad or of a quadrant. But if at the same time the lord of the 9th house also owns the 8th (in the case of Gemini rising), or the 12th (in the case of Libra rising), and also if the lords of the 9th or 10th houses are joined with the lords of the 8th and 12th houses, the beneficial results of the yoga are lost.

The results of the placement of Ketu in the 5th house
A person in whose birth chart Ketu is placed in the 5th Bhava will suffer from a wound in the abdomen or from illnesses of Vata (Wind). But such a person will be loved by his brothers and sisters, he will have a righteous mind, only a few children, he will be rich, strong and energetic.
Comments: In other editions of the treatise ‘Jataka Bharanam’ this shloka reads thus: “the person will have a wound in the abdomen and troubles because of a fall from a height”. Because of Ketu being in the 5th Bhava [house], the person is hasty in taking decisions. Ideas flash in his mind very quickly. Because of some illness in the region of the abdomen a situation will arise where an operation will be necessary. If Ketu is in a favourable Rashi [sign], then the person's wealth will grow thanks to shares, a lottery or the like.
