The 7th house represents marriage and the marriage partner. Mars in the 7th house makes a woman very sexual. In my homeland [Sri Lanka] many people are afraid to give their children in marriage to those who have Mars in the 7th house. If a daughter has Mars in the 7th house, it is difficult for the parents to find a bridegroom for her. Because the bridegroom’s parents do not want their son to marry a woman with Mars in the 7th house. There people consider that such a woman or man may bring death to their spouse. The point is that, as you already know, Mars destroys the relative of the house in which it is located. Here, in the 7th house, it too does what it is accustomed to. This is the house of the marriage partner, and therefore Mars destroys him. If Mars is in the 7th house in a woman’s chart, the husband may die early, or the marriage will be short-lived. It is especially bad if Mars in the 7th house is in conjunction with or under the aspect of other malefics. In any case strained relations develop between them. Many ancient authors (for example Parashara, Kalyanaverma, Garga, Mantheswara, Bhatta Narayana, Jaageshwar, Varahamihira, Punjacharya, Jeewanath, Narayanabhatt, Gopal Rarnakar, Hillajaatak, Yavanmath) agree that Mars in the 7th gives the death of the husband/wife, divorce or torment, and also suffering because of the wife/husband. If Mars is in its own house or in its house of exaltation or under the aspect of Jupiter, the negative influence of Mars is reduced. (Mahesh Dharmadasa)
Mars (Mangala) in the 7th house
Mars in the 7th house. Such people are athletic, own property, travel a lot, and may outlive their marriage partner. They are active and energetic and attain renown. Their marriage partner is, as a rule, passionate and fond of arguments and excitement. (Indubala)
Mars in the 7th house: enviable will power, a manglik, a romantic, a marriage with a representative of another social stratum. Placement in a water sign indicates a heightened interest of the spouse in intimate life and in alcohol. If Jupiter is conjunct with Mars, a hernia or appendicitis is possible. “Bhrigu Sutra” 3.54-65
A person who has Mars in the 7th house of the horoscope will have poor health. When Mars is placed in the house of a ruinous planet or is conjunct with an unfavourable planet, or even if it is in its own sign, the owner of the horoscope will lose his wife. If Mars is conjunct with a favourable planet, the wife will die during the lifetime of the owner of the horoscope, and after her death he will leave his homeland. Even with Mars placed in its sign of exaltation or in a friendly sign the death of the wife is to be expected. If this does not happen, the owner of the horoscope will in secret from others become intimate with a woman of dissolute behaviour and will permit himself sexual perversions such as kissing the sexual organs. Unnatural sexual relations with animals and an attachment to alcohol are possible. If Mars is aspected by Saturn, the owner of the horoscope will kiss the sexual organs of other people. A person who has Mars conjunct with Ketu in the 7th house will not refrain from sexual relations with a woman during menstruation. With a conjunction of Mars with an inimical planet the owner of the horoscope will lose many wives. He will be devoid of strength and full of vanity. This will not manifest in the case of the influence of a favourable planet on Mars.

Mars in the 7th house indicates an active, athletic, energetic and steadfast person as a consequence of its influence on the 1st house. This same influence also explains the poor health of the owner of the horoscope. Being in the 7th house, Mars speaks of a passionate marriage partner inclined towards arguments, therefore the married life of this person cannot be called calm and happy. Mars is the indicator of sexual potency in men, and its presence in a man’s horoscope in the 7th house, the house of sexual relations, suggests an inclination towards extramarital liaisons and a great attachment to sex. Bhrigu Muni covers this question in detail and considers the various manifestations with conjunctions with planets and their influences on Mars. Besides this, Mars in the 7th house indicates tantric attainments in a past life, a great energetic potential and yogic power.
A person developed spiritually is able to sublimate sexual energy, to transfer it to a higher plane by means of spiritual practices. The energy of Kundalini, the source of vital force, correctly directed, gives the opening of all the chakras — the energy centres of the person — and the development of extraordinary abilities. On the gross, low level the unused potential turns into sexual licentiousness.
From the 7th house Mars influences the 1st, 2nd and 10th houses, therefore renown and the ownership of property may be expected. These indications will manifest especially if Mars is the lord of the 10th and 2nd houses. In the case of the signs of Cancer or Sagittarius rising Mars becomes the lord of the 5th house, and the child of the owner of the horoscope will attain renown abroad. The placement of Mars in Capricorn in the 7th house with Cancer rising, for which Mars is the yoga karaka, is extremely favourable for the owner of the horoscope himself as well, since an exalted Mars influences its own 10th house and ensures happiness in children, renown
beyond the borders of his country, and wealth.
Other opinions concerning Mars in the 7th house:
“Brihat Jataka” — humiliation from women.
“Phaladipika” — Sickliness, the death of the wife and impious deeds.
“Saravali” — a person who has Mars placed in the 7th house of the horoscope will be sickly, immoral, unhappy and poor. He will have to endure the death of his wife.
“Chamatkar Chintamani” — the owner of the horoscope will engage in trade abroad, endure anxieties from enemies and suffer from illnesses. His wife will live a short life.
Note: All the classical texts mention the premature death of the wife of the owner of the horoscope. We hold the opinion that the presence of Mars in its own sign or its sign of exaltation, creating ruchaka yoga, and also a benefic influence of Jupiter on Mars from the 1st, 5th or 11th house will considerably soften the negative characteristics, and with a fortunate placement of the lord of the 7th house will neutralise the unfavourable indications altogether.

THE RESULTS OF THE PLACEMENT OF MANGALA IN THE 7TH BHAVA
Because—of the placement of Mangala in the 7th Bhava the person suffers from various problems (losses and destructions), from empty cares and troubles, his body may suffer from the tortures of his enemies, and he will have anxieties and sorrows because—of excessive love for his wife.
Comments: Mangala in the 7th Bhava creates a Mangali Yoga — a combination formed by Mars (that is, the combination of Mangala Dosha — Kuja Dosha). In general, this Yoga arises when it occupies the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th Bhava. Such a Yoga is unfavourable for the health of the person’s wife. Since Mangala is a malefic Graha, then in the 7th Bhava, representing the body of the wife, it is ruinous for the wife’s body. From the 7th Bhava Mangala gives a ruinous aspect on the 2nd Bhava (which is the 8th from the 7th, consequently representing the longevity of the wife), that is, it aspects the Bhava of the longevity of the wife. Therefore Mangala in the 7th Bhava is unfavourable for the longevity of the person’s wife.
There is also another variant of the translation of this Sanskrit Shloka: “The person suffers from strong grief because of the loss of his wife and offspring”.
