Rahu in Virgo

Rahu in Virgo: an idyll at home, prosperity in one's native parts, a responsible post in public organisations or state institutions. Abilities for literature and singing. (Sri Govind Swarup Agarwal)

Rahu and Ketu are known as aprakasha, the shadow planets. Therefore the classical texts give no description of the placement of these planets in the signs of the zodiac. Since their nature is shadowy, Rahu and Ketu often take on the properties of the lords of the sign in which they are placed. In doing so one must look at how the lord of the sign in which Rahu and Ketu are placed is himself placed. If he is strong, then the possibilities of the shadow planets will also be great, and vice versa. (Indubala)

The karmic task with Rahu placed in Virgo — Ketu in Pisces

Ketu in the mystical sign of Pisces speaks of a past life spent either in luxury or devoted to solitude and to the investigation of spiritual and occult themes. The qualities of Pisces are very well manifested in the consciousness of such people. These are: intuition, creativity, a striving for mysteries, for synthesis, for dreams, fantasies, idealism and utopia.

As is known, Pisces is a dual sign, implying the presence of extreme tendencies in the individual's behaviour. On the one hand, such a placement may make the person tolerant, compassionate and understanding; on the other hand it may engender such tendencies as complete delusion, narrow-mindedness and intolerance of the opinion of others. This depends on whether Ketu conveys the higher or the lower vibrations of Pisces.

This placement of Ketu gives the person the ability to see the general picture, but the placement of Rahu in Virgo prompts the person not to lose sight of the details. In this life such people are to meet with the areas for which Virgo is responsible: health, hygiene, healing, cleanliness, attention to trifles, analysis, discipline, routine activity, service, structuring, putting things in order, a striving for perfection, building an organisation and so on.

Such a transformation may proceed quite painfully for some. It is the same as trying to turn a poet into an office clerk. This is the task of balancing the energies of the 6th and 12th houses. Since both these houses are problematic, the solution of this problem challenges such an individual. Those who have managed to find a balance between the energies of Virgo and Pisces become saviours for themselves and for those around them.

This placement of Rahu-Ketu gives the person numerous possibilities for inner growth and material success, but this is never given without struggle. Usually the life of such people is full of various sharp turns and unexpected events. Many changes take place both within and without.

Following the middle path is the best solution, leading to the enlightenment and liberation indicated by the placement of Ketu in Pisces. They need to find a healthy balance between the intellectuality of Virgo and the emotionality of Pisces, between the material and the spiritual, between worldly duties and spiritual expectations, between human and universal laws, between moral norms and personal freedom. In a certain sense this is a fortunate combination, since Ketu in Pisces takes care of the spiritual side of life, and Rahu in Virgo of the material.

This placement favours artists, intellectuals, philosophers, politicians, media workers, ordinary employees and experts of all kinds.

Ketu feels good in Pisces and may bring prosperity in its own period if other factors of the horoscope confirm this. When Ketu acts through its lower aspects, this may lead to religious narrow-mindedness and intolerance, which are a real scourge of modern society.

Rahu in Virgo too may give very good material results along with the ability to defeat one's competitors, if Mercury is strong in the chart. However, if Rahu acts through its lower aspects, this may turn the person into a crafty trickster pursuing selfish aims or doing harm to others.

The placement of Jupiter points to past talents, and the placement of Mercury points to the sphere for applying one's efforts in this life.

Examples: The legend of the martial arts, Bruce Lee  (Rahu in the 6th house in Virgo, Ketu in the 12th in Pisces). The coincidence in his chart of the ordinal numbers of the signs and the houses reduced to a minimum the confusion that is usually present in people's minds with such a placement of Rahu-Ketu. On the contrary, this coincidence brought clarity to the purpose of his life.  Rahu in the 6th house brought him renown in the sphere of the martial arts (fighting is an indication of the 6th house) and gave him the ability to defeat his rivals, but people did not also discern in him the profound philosopher striving for spiritual perfection (which Ketu in the 12th in Pisces gave him). Jupiter in the 1st house indicated that his talent lay in his own body, while Mercury in the 7th house in Libra gave him the opportunity to reach a wide public through the art of cinema.

Another example: Bob Dylan, the legendary singer and poet, has this placement in the 2nd/8th houses. Rahu in the 2nd  (the house of speech, of poetry) in Virgo gave him the ability to speak laconically and expressively on somewhat surreal and abstract themes, which are dictated by the presence of Ketu in Pisces in the 8th house.

Rahu in Virgo and Ketu in Pisces: Ketu in Pisces means that in a past life the person had no stability in his material life. Pisces shows isolation, an interest in spirituality, harmful habits, an easy life. It happens that in this life too it is very hard for the person to get rid of harmful habits. On the whole this is a very favourable combination. The person can develop in a balanced way, since Rahu is in a very practical sign and Ketu is in a spiritual sign. Rahu shows the direction in this life. The person is very busy with his work and works on his plans all the time. All the authors agree that this is an excellent placement for Rahu and Ketu. The person wants to perform all his affairs excellently. In this process he spends too much time on details. He has an excellent analytical mind. Under no circumstances do these people abandon the task they have set themselves. They want to go through to the end.

Leo Tolstoy was born when Rahu was in Virgo. When he was still 18 he set himself the goal of keeping a diary and analysing his successes, failures and train of thought. He fulfilled the task he had set himself and kept a diary until his very death. The way he described moods and nature in detail in his works shows that Rahu strengthened in his chart the natural character of the sign of Virgo. The chief task for these people is not to fixate on details and trifles. Leo Tolstoy called his chief work 'War and Peace'. Rahu was in the sign of struggle with enemies (Virgo) and Ketu in the sign of parting, humility and spirituality (Pisces). Therefore it is said that these people are under the influence of struggle and of tranquillity throughout their life. (Mahesh Dharmadasa)
