Mars in the 8th house
The results given by Mars in the eighth house of the horoscope
The 8th house is considered the house of death; this is the worst house for Mars. Mars here gives injuries, accidents and surgical interventions. Mars in the 8th house may give problems with the law and a prison term, especially if it is under the aspect of other malefics. In many criminals one may observe Mars in the 8th house; they have an innate inclination towards crime. Such a Mars gives diseases of the eyes, since Mars aspects the 2nd house from the 8th house. They may also suffer from fire or weapons. The person dies instantly, without suffering. A very bad placement for marriage. Such a Mars may give extramarital liaisons. The 8th house represents the external sexual organs and the anus. The person may catch venereal diseases or haemorrhoids. If the 8th house receives no aspects from favourable planets, Mars always brings negative results. If Mars is in masculine signs, the negative indications may be strengthened still further. This is the house of the wealth and speech of the partner. If Mars is in the 8th house in a woman’s chart, such a woman will find a husband with coarse speech. The husband will have financial difficulties after the marriage. (Mahesh Dharmadasa)
Mars (Mangala) in the 8th house
Mars in the 8th house. Problems in marriage, disputes, court proceedings. There may be a short life span, a dubious business, cunning, guile, an ability to persuade. The receipt of an inheritance is possible. (Indubala)
Mars in the 8th house: a manglik, the death of the spouse, a well-provided life, financial profit from the partner, from an inheritance or from a won lawsuit. Affliction of Mars foretells a wasteful partner. If Mars is in the 6th, 8th or 12th house, the person always cares only about his own well-being. (Shri Govind Swarup Agarwal)
“Bhrigu Sutra” 3.66-71
A person who has Mars placed in the 8th house will suffer from eye diseases, rheumatism, tuberculosis or sudden acute pains. His life will not be long. In his early years the owner of the horoscope will experience the death of his father. He will have few children, but his family life will turn out happily. If Mars is in conjunction with a favourable planet, a long life and good health are to be expected. In the case of a conjunction with a ruinous planet or of its presence in the house of an unfavourable planet, the owner of the horoscope will be sickly and have an average life span. When the lord of the 8th house is strong, the owner of the horoscope will live a long life.
Comments:
The 8th house is a dusthana, and the presence of Mars in it will entail negative results. Besides this, as has already been discussed in the commentaries to sutras 46-53, even if Mars is the lord of a good house, falling into the 8th it destroys all the positive characteristics of its house.
From the 8th house Mars influences the 2nd house, which causes eye diseases. The 8th house is the house of the length of life, and the presence in it of a ruinous Mars, especially in conjunction with an unfavourable planet, will indicate an early death. Being the twelfth (the house of losses) from the 9th house, the 8th house speaks of the death of the father, therefore a person who has a ruinous Mars occupying this house will lose his father early. In the medical aspect the 8th house indicates chronic illnesses, and the owner of the horoscope will suffer from chronic diseases such as rheumatism or tuberculosis.
A benefic influence on Mars will prolong the life of the owner of the horoscope and will rid him of illnesses. The same favourable results will also be observed with a strong lord of the 8th house or with Mars in its own sign.
Other opinions concerning Mars in the 8th house:
“Brihat Jataka” — the owner of the horoscope will have few children and poor eyesight.
“Phaladipika” — sickliness, a short life and a bad reputation.
“Saravali” — a person who has Mars placed in the 8th house will be unattractive, sickly, pessimistic and have ruinous inclinations. His life will be short.
“Chamatkar Chintamani” — if Mars is in the 8th house, even other good planets will not be able to remove the misfortunes of the owner of the horoscope. His friends will become his enemies. He will meet with obstacles in any efforts he makes to improve his position.
Note: The “Bhrigu Sutra”, unlike the other treatises, also mentions favourable results of the placement of Mars in the 8th house.

THE RESULTS OF THE PLACEMENT OF MANGALA IN THE 8TH BHAVA
Mangala, being in the 8th Bhava, will give the person suffering from diseases of the eyes, misfortune, a disease of the blood, an inclination to commit ignoble deeds, a narrow (stupid) mind and a tendency to accuse (criticise) holy people.
Comments: Mangala [Mars] in the 8th Bhava [house] also forms a Mangali Yoga (Kuja Dosha). Being here, it aspects the Bhava of the longevity of the person’s wife (the 2nd house), and therefore the wife will not have a long life. Mangala, placed in the 8th Bhava, moreover forms a Yoga as a consequence of which the person will have disease of the sexual organs, anxiety, haemorrhoids, wounds (ulcers), fissures and so on. If Mangala is subject to the influence of some other malefic Graha, then the person may undergo imprisonment, commit a crime and die early. If Mangala is influenced by any Graha of a fiery (‘Agni’) nature, then the person may be killed with a firearm. Learned authors on Jyotish also predict from this placement of Mangala such results as the corruption (immorality) of the person, problems because of obstacles, chronic illness, disease of the intimate organs, anxiety, wounds (ulcers), stupidity, disease of the blood, little offspring, the disease ‘Sashrahani’ (spasms of the abdomen, diarrhoea or constipation), censure (condemnation) by others, susceptibility to grief, an attack (on the native) with a weapon and sorrow because of the wife.
