If Mercury is in the 11th house, the owner of the horoscope will perform a multitude of good deeds. He will be kind, soft-hearted and intelligent and will obtain wealth by various means. After the age of 21 a child will be born to him. If Mercury is in the house of a ruinous planet or is damaged by a conjunction, the loss of wealth because of impious activity is to be expected. When Mercury is placed in its own sign or in its sign of exaltation, the owner of the horoscope will become very wealthy thanks to his good deeds.

The 11th house is the best upachaya house and therefore the placement of an unafflicted Mercury in it is very favourable. The owner of the horoscope, possessing extensive knowledge in various fields, will have many important and influential friends. A favourable planet in an upachaya house will cause an expansion of the good characteristics of the house. Here all the best qualities of Mercury will manifest: truthfulness, a striving for higher knowledge, a refined intellect, erudition, logic, prudence and an oratorical gift. Besides this, benefits from business and prosperity are to be expected.
One may say for certain about wealth when the sign of Leo rises, since Mercury in that case is the lord of the 2nd and 11th houses. The placement of Mercury in the 11th house is also very favourable for Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Capricorn and Pisces ascendants.
