Mars in the 6th house

The results given by Mars in the sixth house of the horoscope

Mars in the sixth house: the 6th house represents enemies, illnesses, capacity for work and digestion. Mars carries fire, and such a person has good digestion. Warmth in the stomach arouses the appetite. The person eats well and becomes energetic. An energetic person works excellently and performs his work as he should. They have great sexual passion. If you are an employer, then you had better hire people who have Mars placed in the 6th house. Such people are not lazy and perform their work as their boss orders them. This is the house of enemies. They will have enemies, but such a Mars destroys enemies. This is the work of Mars. For Mars to manifest its innate character, it must have enemies. Therefore, if you need a bodyguard, watchman or security guard, it is better to take a guard who has Mars in the 6th house. This is the house of the uncle (the mother’s brother); Mars destroys the relative of the place where it is located. Therefore, if the mother has a younger brother, he may develop problems.

In general, Mars in the 6th house gives good health. But it gives illnesses and injuries to the abdomen. Possibly the person will have to undergo a surgical operation. In women such a Mars may give disturbance of menstruation, miscarriages and abortions. Be that as it may, such a Mars is considered favourable for material development. (Mahesh Dharmadasa)

Mars in the 6th house: money, real estate, fame, success, power, promotion at work, robust health. He loves children. The maternal uncle is often ill. An afflicted Mars leads to accidents, burns, conflicts with superiors, colic and ulcers of the duodenum. If Mars is in the 6th, 8th or 12th house, the person always cares only about his own well-being. The Moon with Mars in the 6th house inclines the person towards suicide. (Shri Govind Swarup Agarwal)

“Bhrigu Sutra” 3.46-53

Mars is in the 6th house of the horoscope, the person will become famous, fortunate in his undertakings, will defeat his enemies, will be blessed with children. He will enter into marriage and will acquire means of transport (horses and camels) in his 27th year of life.

If Mars is conjunct with a ruinous planet or is aspected by one, then the above-mentioned results will manifest in full measure, but the owner of the horoscope will suffer from rheumatism and other diseases of an inflammatory character. When Mars is placed in one of the signs belonging to Mercury, a disease of leprosy is possible. If Mars moreover has the influence of a favourable planet, then the owner of the horoscope will successfully be cured of this disease.

Comments:

The 6th house is an upachaya house. In Vedic astrology there is a rule that unfavourable planets in the upachaya houses give good results. This assertion is based on the logic that ruinous planets destroy the characteristics of the house in which they are located. Mars, occupying the 6th house, destroys the negative indications of the 6th house and thus gives good results, such as name and fame, success in undertakings, and the rout of enemies. The opinion that Mars, the most ruinous planet, will give beneficial results when in the 6th house is supported by the “Jataka Desha Marga”: “Ruinous planets are strong in the 3rd, 6th and 11th houses (the upachaya houses), while favourable ones are strong in the houses of the quadrant and the trikona”.

Sutra 48 says that a person in whose horoscope Mars occupies the 6th house will acquire means of transport and will enter into marriage in his 27th year of life. The 6th house is the fourth (property) in relation to the 3rd house (means of transport). Mars, being the indicator of property, placed in the 6th house, the house of income, gives these favourable results. As for the late marriage (and a marriage at 27, according to the Vedic tradition, is late) the following explanation may be given: the 6th house is the twelfth (delays, procrastination) in relation to the 7th house (the house of marriage), and the placement of a ruinous Mars in the 6th house
will prove unfavourable.

The 6th house, despite the fact that it is an upachaya house, is also a dusthana, together with the 8th and 12th houses. And Mars, while giving victory over enemies, nevertheless does not free the owner of the horoscope from illnesses, of which sutras 51-52 speak. Our modest experience, based on many years of practice, shows that any unfavourable planet in the 6th house gives illnesses: the Sun — of the eyes, Mars and Ketu — inflammation of various organs, infectious diseases and also allergic ones, Saturn and Rahu — illnesses of a protracted, chronic character.

In describing the results of the presence of Mars in the 6th house, the “Bhrigu Sutra” probably considers that the positive points of placement in an upachaya house will predominate over the negative characteristics of a dusthana. Nevertheless, the unfavourable character of the 6th house should be taken into account when analysing a horoscope. Our opinion rests on the “Jataka Desha Marga” and the “Phaladipika”, which state:

“The 6th, 8th and 12th houses in any horoscope are declared bad houses. Even those houses whose lords are placed in the dusthanas, or are conjunct with the lords of the dusthanas, or are aspected by them, become afflicted. Of all the dusthanas the 8th house is the most harmful”. (“Jataka Desha Marga”, ch. 10, shloka 34)

“When the lord and the karaka of some bhava are strong and occupy good houses, the prosperity of the bhava is to be expected. But if they are weak or are placed in the 12th, 6th or 8th houses, the bhava does not bring good to the owner of the horoscope”. (“Jataka Desha Marga”, ch. 10, shloka 36)

“If the lord of a house is in the 6th, 8th or 12th houses from the lagna, this influences the indications of the house unfavourably. If the lord of the 6th, 8th or 12th house is placed in some house, then this spoils the indications of the house. But these unfavourable points will not be felt if the house is aspected by a benefic planet (“Phaladipika”, chapter 15, shloka 5).

Such a detailed description of the placement of a planet in a dusthana is necessary, since these are very important principles of predictive astrology.

In sum one may say that if Mars is the lord of the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th or 11th houses and is placed in the 6th, then the indications of these houses will be weakened. These principles are applicable not only to Mars but to all planets.

Other opinions concerning Mars in the 6th house:

“Brihat Jataka” — a person in whose horoscope Mars occupies the 6th house will be very strong, but enemies will get the better of him.

“Phaladipika” — The owner of the horoscope will become wealthy and famous, will defeat his enemies, will be celebrated, but very quick-tempered and hot-headed.

“Saravali” — the owner of the horoscope will be very quick-tempered, handsome, strong and endowed with the qualities of a leader. He will have a dense build and will suffer from increased acidity.

“Chamatkar Chintamani” — the owner of such a position of Mars will defeat even the strongest enemy. He will be intelligent and reasonable, but he will have to suffer because of his maternal uncle. He will be able to earn a lot, but will lose everything.

THE RESULTS OF THE PLACEMENT OF MANGALA IN THE 6TH BHAVA

With the placement of Mangala in the 6th Bhava at the time of birth the person possesses strong digestion (that is he often feels hungry), is inclined to be angry (wrathful), will destroy his enemies and makes friends with good people.

Comments: The placement of Mangala [Mars] in the 6th Bhava [house] is predicted as favourable for the person by all learned authors on Jyotish. In fact, there is a great similarity between the 6th Bhava and Mangala. Therefore the affairs connected with Mangala are exceptionally fruitful with Mangala placed in this Bhava. If in this Bhava Mangala is in conjunction with Ketu, then the results will be more intense, since Ketu is considered a Graha similar to Mangala. If Mangala, placed in the 6th  Bhava, is connected with the ruler of the 6th Bhava or with any other malefic Graha, then the person is exposed to the danger of an accident or a heart attack (illness), and problems with the liver. Mangala in the 6th Bhava is considered unfavourable for the person’s maternal uncle.
