The Sun in the 5th house will endow the owner of the horoscope with a dense, robust build and with wisdom. In his 7th year of life misfortune will overtake his father — he will fall seriously ill and will be on the verge of death. A person having the Sun in the 5th house of the horoscope will be poor and will have few children, but will become wise. With a strong and well-placed lord of the 5th house the sons of the owner of the horoscope will not die, but with a conjunction of the Sun with Rahu or Ketu the loss of children is possible because of the curse of the Serpent God, while a conjunction of the Sun with Mars will entail the death of children at the hands of an enemy. This will not happen if the ruinous conjunctions listed have the aspect of a benefic planet. When the Sun occupies the 5th house of the horoscope, its owner will become devoted to the Sun God. If the Sun is strong, prosperity awaits the children of the owner of the horoscope.
Comments:
Being a ruinous planet, the Sun exerts an unfavourable influence on the indications of the 5th house, such as prosperity and children. But, according to the theory of “Bhavad bhavam”, the characteristics of a house are revealed from other houses, and the 5th house is the ninth counting from the 9th house and thus the 5th house may be interpreted as a house of fortune. And indeed, luck accompanies the owner of the horoscope in life if the Sun is a favourable lord for the rising sign in accordance with the principle of lordship. This happens in the following cases:
1. The lagna in Aries, the Sun is in the 5th house in its own sign;
2. The lagna in Taurus, and the Sun, the lord of the 4th house, is placed in the 5th house;
3. The lagna in Leo, the Sun occupies the 5th house as the lord of the lagna;
4. The lagna in Libra, the Sun, as the lord of the 11th house, is placed in the 5th house;
5. The lagna in Scorpio, the Sun is the lord of the 10th house;
6. The lagna in Sagittarius, the Sun is the lord of the 9th house. The most favourable position for the Sun in the 5th house is exaltation in Aries with Sagittarius rising, since the Sun becomes the lord of the 9th house, the house of fortune. All these placements of the Sun will bring the owner of the horoscope wealth, a good education, respect and a developed intellect.
Bhrigu Muni writes that misfortunes from the “wrath of the Serpent God” or death at the hands of an enemy await the children of a person in whose horoscope the Sun is conjunct with Rahu, Ketu or Mars. By the wrath and curses of the Serpent God one should understand snake bites, an addiction to drugs, or poisoning by poisons and medicines, since it is precisely these situations that are ascribed to the influence of the planet Rahu. Further the author notes that the ominous results of a conjunction of the Sun with Rahu, Ketu or Mars are neutralised with aspects of Jupiter and Venus. We may add that dangers do not threaten the children of the owner of the horoscope with a conjunction of the lord of the 5th house with the putra karaka Jupiter or with a good aspect to them. A person in whose horoscope the Sun is in the 5th house in the sign of Leo or Aries will have good health, and his children will become a source of happiness and prosperity for him
Other opinions concerning the Sun in the 5th house:
“Brihat Jataka” — childlessness and poverty.
“Phaladipika” — the owner of the horoscope will be deprived of happiness, wealth and children, will live a short life, but will be reputed to be intelligent and wise.
“Saravali” — misfortune, poverty, childlessness, physical weakness and a short life.
“Chamatkar Chintamani” — the loss of his eldest son awaits the owner of the horoscope. He will be very intelligent and will exert a great influence on others. With an afflicted Sun in the 5th house diseases of the stomach are possible.

The results of the placement of the Sun in the fifth house
If Surya (the Sun) is in the 5th Bhava (house), then the person is a follower of Shiva and Parvati (the consort of Shiva). He has several children, he obtains happiness, but is deprived of wealth, performs inauspicious deeds, and his mind errs.
Comments: If Surya is placed in the 5th Bhava, there is a great danger that the person’s wife will have an abortion. Therefore all the learned authors of antiquity predict, as a rule, only a few (i.e. few) children. But if the ruler of the 5th Bhava is endowed with strength, then such a result will not occur. And even an insignificant ruinous influence on the Sun in this position will make the person ill because of problems with the liver and the heart. With such a placement of Surya in the birth chart the person’s advice and consultations, as a rule, possess force. He is careless in character (carefree) and joyful, like an ascetic (a holy man).

The 5th house represents reason, authorship, children, pupils, care, criticism, romance and the other attributes of a developed reason. The Sun in the 5th house gives the ability to protect one’s ideas, thoughts and creative undertakings from external influence. Also such people gladly give patronage and care to their children and pupils.
Since the 5th house is a trikona, the Sun in this house may give the person independence of thinking, but in the absence of support from the natal chart a schizophrenic mired in his own fantasies may easily result.
The 5th house is the fundamental creative principle of the person, therefore the Sun here makes the person confident in his own original ideas and thoughts. On the other hand a frequent problem of such a placement is an excessive attachment to one’s own reason, which may become a stumbling block in development.
Such people have their own point of view on everything, differing from that of others, but, as a rule, they keep it to themselves. They express their opinion when a convenient opportunity presents itself, and also when their opinion is in demand.

- Creativity and authorship are formulaic, not unique
- Uninteresting people
Health:
The 5th house is the zone of the stomach and of the auxiliary digestive systems of the organism.
A strong, favourable Sun gives strong digestion, a balanced secretion of digestive enzymes, and a strong mucous membrane of the stomach. At times increased acidity and an enlarged volume of the stomach may be troublesome, because of which the person eats more than the body requires.
A weak Sun causes problems with digestion. Lowered acidity and a disturbance of the structural integrity of the stomach (ulcers, gastritis, tumours) are possible. Also the stomach may be displaced from its natural position, which causes lowered peristalsis. Erosions of the gastrointestinal tract are possible.
Conclusion:
In the natural horoscope [where Aries occupies the 1st house] the 5th house is occupied by the sign of Leo — the home sign for the Sun. Therefore the placement of the Sun in the 5th house is extremely difficult to spoil. In most cases in my practice this is a good placement, and almost always these are interesting, independent people. It is worth noting that with such a placement the key factor of life is boldness in expressing one’s ideas and thoughts, instead of waiting for favourable conditions. The Sun in the 5th house gives excellent fathers and creative, atmospheric personalities.
