The results of the various periods and subperiods of the Sun

The results of the subperiod [Antardasha] of the Sun in the main periods [Mahadashas] of the planets
The results of the antardasha [subperiod] of Surya [the Sun] in the mahadasha [main period] of Surya [the Sun]
54:1-3: If Surya is exalted, or if it is placed in its own rashi, in the 11th bhava, in a Kendra or in a Trikona, then there will be an increase of wealth and food grain in the antardasha of the mahadasha of Surya. The results will be the opposite if Surya is in debilitation, in an unfavourable rashi and so forth. If Surya is the ruler of the 2nd or 7th bhava, then it will cause the danger of an early death. The protection against these pernicious results is the repetition of the Mrityunjaya-Japa (or having it performed by someone). The worship of Surya and the performance of other ceremonies for Surya grant good health.
The results of the antardasha of Surya [the Sun] in the mahadasha of Chandra [the Moon]
54:65-67: If Surya is exalted or is in its own rashi, or is placed in a Kendra, a Trikona or in the 11th, 2nd or 3rd bhava, then the native will restore a lost kingdom or fortune and the well-being of the home, will acquire power over a village and lands with the approval of friends and of the king, there will be the birth of a child and enormous wealth in the home — such will be the results of the antardasha of Surya.
54:68-70: If, from the ruler of the mahadasha, Surya is joined to a pernicious graha, or if it is placed in the 8th or 12th bhava [house], then a threat from the king, from a thief and from a snake, and an illness like a fever, are possible. Besides this, a journey abroad will be difficult. If Surya is in the 2nd or 7th bhava, then pains from fever will be the result. To lessen the pernicious results one must worship Lord Shiva. By performing righteous and noble deeds the native will be granted the magnanimity of Lord Shiva.
The results of the antardasha of Surya [the Sun] in the mahadasha of Mangala [Mars]
56:64-66: If the mahadasha of Mangala and the antardasha of Surya are running, and if Surya is in exaltation, in its own rashi, in its Mulatrikona, in a Kendra, a Trikona or the 11th bhava and in conjunction with the rulers of the 9th and 10th bhavas, then a vehicle, a good reputation and the birth of a child will be received. In this antardasha the results will be the acquisition of wealth and grain, well-being, prosperity, good health, undaunted courage, the recognition (approval) of the king, extraordinary happiness, a very successful business, a meeting with a king in a foreign country and so forth.
Comments:
The results of the antardasha of Surya [the Sun] in the mahadasha of Mangala [Mars], as formulated in the preceding shlokas, correspond especially to the Lagna-rashis Mesha [Aries], Simha [Leo], Vrishchika [Scorpio], Dhanu [Sagittarius] and Karka [Cancer]. The forming of a connection between Surya [the Sun] and the ruler of the 9th or 10th bhava [house] will give numerous results. The antardasha of Surya will provide diminishing results (in descending order) for the Lagnas Mithuna [Gemini], Kanya [Virgo], Makara [Capricorn] and Mina [Pisces], because for these Lagnas Surya receives the rulership of the 3rd, 12th, 8th and 6th bhava respectively.
56:67: If Surya is placed in the 6th, 8th or 12th bhava from the ruler of the mahadasha (Mangala) and is also connected with pernicious grahas, then during the antardasha there will be pain in the body, madness (derangement of mind), failure at work, deep fear, disease of the brain, fever, dysentery and similar kinds of illness.
56:68-69: The placement of Surya in the 2nd or 7th bhava will cause danger from a snake, from fever, from poison and so forth, and will cause suffering to a son. The performance of spiritual worship in the prescribed manner will give sound health and an increase of wealth and food grain.
The results of the antardasha of Surya [the Sun] in the mahadasha of Rahu:
57:60-61: If Surya is placed in the rashi of its exaltation, in its own rashi, in a Kendra, a Trikona, in the 11th bhava, in its own or in an exalted Navamsha, or is aspected by beneficent grahas, then the antardasha of Surya in the mahadasha of Rahu will bestow wealth and prosperity with the blessing of the king, popularity (respect), the possibility of receiving the post of head of a small village, acquisitions and so forth.
57:62-63/4: If Surya is in conjunction with the ruler of the 9th bhava and of the Lagna and is aspected by the ruler of the 10th bhava, then there will be the approval (patronage) of the king, a good reputation, journeys abroad, power in the country. The acquisition of an elephant, a horse, clothing, ornaments and so forth, the accomplishment of desired goals and the well-being of a child — such favourable results will be attained.
57:64-65: The placement of Surya from the ruler of the mahadasha in the 6th, 8th or 12th bhava in debilitation will bring results such as fever, dysentery, quarrels, contradictions with the king (the government/the authorities), travel, an increase of enemies, sufferings because of the king, thieves, fire and so forth.
57:66: The placement of Surya in a Kendra, a Trikona, or in the 3rd or 11th bhava from the ruler of the mahadasha will give such results as: royal receptions in foreign countries, prosperity and well-being.
57:67: If Surya is the ruler of the 2nd or 7th bhava, then its antardasha will bring a serious illness. To soften the pernicious results one must worship Surya, who will reward one with sound health and a good character.
The results of the antardasha of Surya [the Sun] in the mahadasha of Guru [Jupiter]
58:51-53: In the mahadasha of Guru, if Surya is exalted or is in its own rashi, is placed in a Kendra, a Trikona, in the 3rd bhava, the 11th bhava or the 2nd bhava from the Lagna, and also possesses the necessary strength, then the antardasha of Surya will show results such as an increase of wealth, the approval (patronage) of the king, luxury, the acquisition of a vehicle, of clothing, of cattle and of ornaments, the birth of children, the acquisition of friends and so forth, and success in all undertakings with the help of a master (an employer, a «boss»).
58:54-55: If Surya is placed in the 6th, 8th or 12th position (bhava) from the Lagna and from the ruler of the mahadasha, Guru, then in its antardasha the results will be mental illness, pain from fever, indifference to righteous deeds, an inclination to unscrupulous affairs, hostile feelings towards each and every one, grief for brothers and sisters, quarrels without a cause.
58:56-57: If Surya is the ruler of the 2nd or 7th bhava, it will cause physical pain. To lessen the pernicious results, if the Aditya-Hridaya-Patha (‘Aditya-Hrdaya-Patha’) is performed, it will deliver one from all misfortunes and illnesses.
The results of the antardasha of Surya [the Sun] in the mahadasha of Shani [Saturn]
59:37-38: If Surya is in exaltation or in its own rashi and is joined to the ruler of the 9th bhava, or is in a Kendra, a Trikona or in the 11th bhava and is aspected by or joined to a beneficent graha, then the antardasha of Surya in the mahadasha of Shani will give results such as the receipt of the highest comfort (help) from a master (a teacher, an employer, a boss), the well-being of the home, an increase of wealth, happiness from children, the acquisition of a vehicle, of clothing, of animals and so forth, and the home will be well supplied with milk.
59:39-41: If Surya is placed in the 8th or 12th bhava from the ruler of the mahadasha, then the antardasha of Surya will cause diseases of the heart, slander, the loss of one’s position in society, mental sufferings, grief for friends and loved ones, changes in industrial enterprises, indisposition because of fever and the like, anxieties, fear, the death of relatives and so forth.
59:42: If Surya is the ruler of the 2nd or 7th bhava, then it will cause physical pain. To lessen the pernicious results one must worship the God of the Sun (Surya-puja).
Comments:
The results of the subperiod of Surya [the Sun] in the main period of Shani [Saturn] are, as a rule, not good; health, strength of mind, the <possibility of> the birth of a child and education are especially affected. If Surya is the ruler of the Lagna, then it will undoubtedly give unfavourable results concerning the health of the native, regardless of whether Surya has any connection with Shani or not, and in which bhavas [houses] they are placed from one another.
The results of the antardasha of Surya [the Sun] in the mahadasha of Buddha [Mercury]
60:20-22: In the mahadasha of Buddha and the antardasha of Surya, if Surya is placed in its own rashi or in the rashi of its exaltation, or in a Trikona, in the 2nd or 11th bhava, or in an exalted or its own Navamsha, then it will manifest results such as the favour of the king, a growth of prosperity, the support of a master (an employer, a boss) and of friends. If Surya is under the aspect of Mangala, then at the beginning of the antardasha there will be the acquisition of property (land or the like), and if Surya receives the aspect of the ruler of the Lagna, then it will give abundant happiness, wealth, a village (a large estate), land and the comfort of food, clothing and so forth.
Comments:
The Lagna Dhanu [Sagittarius] is the only Lagna for which both Buddha [Mercury] and Surya [the Sun] become Yoga-Karakas. Although with the Lagna Vrishabha [Taurus] the connection and conjunction of both these grahas [planets] will give good results, in the dashas of these grahas there will be a certain difference in their results. With the Lagna Dhanu [Sagittarius] the native attains a good position in society, while in the case of the Lagna Vrishabha [Taurus] he receives popularity and recognition, land, a vehicle and other material comfort. With the other Lagnas there will be mixed results (good or bad), even though the birth charts may be of good potential and full of promise.
60:23-24: If Surya is placed in the 8th or 12th bhava and is joined to Shani, Mangala or Rahu, or is in the Trik-Bhavas (the 6th, 8th, 12th) from the ruler of the mahadasha and is deprived of strength, then it will manifest <such results as> theft (robbery), fire, pain or wounds from a weapon, diseases of the bile and of the head (the brain), mental suffering and grief for friends and so forth.
60:25: If Surya is the ruler of the 2nd or 7th bhava [house], then it will cause a premature death. To soften the pernicious results one must perform the Shanti-Patha (‘Shanti-Patha’) with the proper ceremonies.
The results of the antardasha of Surya [the Sun] in the mahadasha of Ketu
61:16-17: If Surya is in the rashi of its exaltation or in the rashi of Chandra, or is placed in a Kendra, a Trikona or in the 11th bhava and is aspected by a beneficent graha, then the antardasha of Surya in the mahadasha of Ketu will give an increase of wealth and prosperity, help at the level of the king, enormous comfort, the performance of auspicious activity and satisfaction from ambitious goals.
61:18-19: The placement of Surya in the 8th or 12th bhava, joined to a pernicious graha, will cause a threat from the king (the government), grief for the mother and father, journeys abroad, calamities because of a thief, snakes and poison, enmity with the king and with friends, persecution by the king, a decrease of wealth, grief because of illness, fever as a consequence of excessive heat and so forth during the antardasha of Surya.
61:20-21: If Surya is placed in a Kendra, a Trikona, or in the 2nd or 11th bhava from the ruler of the mahadasha, Ketu, then it will manifest good physical well-being, a growth of wealth, the birth of a child, resoluteness in the heart, success in all spheres, rule over a small village and so forth.
61:22-24: When Surya is placed in the 8th or 12th bhava from the ruler of the mahadasha, Ketu, or is joined to pernicious grahas, then there will be obstacles in obtaining food, fear in the heart, the loss of wealth, of food grain and of animals. The beginning and the middle of the antardasha will cause considerable disputes and conflicts, while at the end happiness is indicated. If Surya is the ruler of the 2nd or 7th bhava, then it will give a premature death. To lessen the pernicious results gold and a cow must be given to charity, and with the blessing of the God of the Sun calm and harmony will be attained.
The results of the antardasha of Surya [the Sun] in the mahadasha of Shukra [Venus]
62:12: During the antardasha of Surya in the mahadasha of Shukra, if Surya is not placed in a favourable bhava, then it will cause suffering, contradictions with the king, and there will be quarrels with co-heirs and the like.
62:13-15: If Surya is placed in exaltation, in its own rashi or in the rashi of a friend, in a Kendra or a Trikona from the Lagna and also from the ruler of the mahadasha, or in the 2nd or 11th bhava, then the antardasha of Surya will bestow an increase of wealth, the receipt of a kingdom, comfort from the wife, wealth and luxury, great happiness thanks to an employer (a boss), auspicious visits of devoted friends, the love of father and mother, joy at the attainment of wealth by brothers, great fame, immeasurable comfort, a growth of fortune, the birth of a child and so forth.
62:16-18: The placement of Surya [the Sun] in the Trik-Bhavas (6/8/12), in the rashi of its debilitation or in pernicious Vargas will bring fever, mental disorder and quarrels with brothers and sisters, tasteless food every day, sufferings for the father and the loss of a brother, opposition (enmity) at the assemblies (at the court) of the king, an obstacle because of a snake, a hidden danger (fear) in the family (at home), the probability of other illnesses, and the destruction of the home and of agricultural land.
62:19: If Surya is the ruler of the 2nd or 7th bhava, then the other grahas will give obstacles <there will be a pernicious influence of the grahas>. To soften such misfortunes one must worship the God Surya.
Comments:
Surya [the Sun] and Shukra [Venus] are not friendly to one another, and therefore their combination will cause contradictions with relatives, for example with co-heirs, or with the officials or administrators of the king (of the state), which is entirely natural. Being in the rashi [sign] of its debilitation or ruling an unfavourable bhava [house], Surya will undoubtedly give unfavourable results. If, however, both these grahas [planets] are connected with the same incidents or events of life, then the results of such events will be strengthened. For example, if Surya is the ruler of the 10th bhava [house] and Shukra, in conjunction with Surya, is placed in a beneficent bhava, then there will definitely be a good profit in business during the main period and the subperiod of these grahas, because Shukra is the significator of wealth and luxury and in the natural birth chart it represents the bhava of business (the 7th bhava). In this connection, if both grahas turn out to be in the Trik-Bhavas (the 6th, 8th, 12th), then this will undoubtedly bring the opposite results in business activity
The results of the sub-subperiods [Pratyantardashas] of the Sun in the subperiods [Antardashas] of the planets
63:2: The pratyantardasha of Surya in the antardasha of Surya: Disputes, a decrease of wealth, sufferings of the wife, illnesses affecting the head and the like.
Comments:
The corresponding results of the grahas [planets] given by the sage for the combinations of antardasha and pratyantardasha are predominantly based on the karakatvas [meanings] of the grahas. For example, in the pratyantardashas of the antardasha of Surya [the Sun] it is said that the native will suffer from headache and so forth. If it <the graha that is the ruler of the pratyantardasha> happens to be the ruler of the Lagna and is a significator of heat (possesses a fiery nature), then it will without doubt cause a headache.
Surya [the Sun] possesses the innate quality of bestowing (rewarding) and also the nature of self-renunciation. Since Surya means the «soul» (‘Atma’), it has a direct connection with the «Supreme Divine». It is probably for the sake of precisely this property of Surya that the sage did not admit voluptuous results, such as pleasures with a woman and the like, into the pratyantardashas of Surya. This gap is most obvious in the pratyantardasha of Shukra [Venus] (see shloka 10), since Shukra, on the contrary, gives voluptuous and sensual results.
It may be noted that the results of the pratyantardasha of Chandra [the Moon] in the antardasha of Surya [the Sun], such as agitation, quarrels, mental suffering and the like, are the predominant karakatvas [meanings] of Chandra. All these results are connected with the mind. Nevertheless, the results of the subsequent pratyantardashas are directly connected with the very nature of each graha [planet], and the sage adopted an identical pattern for the description.
Nevertheless, in addition to these notable results formulated in these shlokas, we must also remember other important factors, such as the placement in the birth chart of the ruler of the pratyantardasha in relation to the rulers of the other dashas in the hierarchy <that is, in relation to the ruler of the antardasha and the ruler of the mahadasha>. Besides this, the ownership of a particular bhava [house] undoubtedly exerts a considerable influence on the results described for the time of action of the pratyantardasha. In other words, one can speak of results only after considering all the components, such as the characteristics of the rulers of the dashas of all levels (mahadasha, antardasha, pratyantardasha and so forth), that is, their placement, their conjunctions, their ownership of bhavas [houses], their karakatvas [meanings] and so forth. Essentially, the karakatvas [meanings] — the qualities and characteristics of the grahas [planets] — are the main factor responsible for creating specific results and determining the timing of events.
