Jupiter in the 4th house: A happy, intelligent, rich person. Jupiter in the 4th house gives very good results. The person will own movable and immovable property. He will have good relations with his own family. Such people want to live in their native places. With time they become more successful. These favourable results are strengthened still further if Jupiter is in its own sign, in the sign of exaltation or in conjunction with the Moon or Venus. A very weak Jupiter can force the person to live in a home not his own. In the opinion of Garga Muni, a solitary Jupiter in the 4th house gives an inheritance and happiness. All the authors agree that an undamaged Jupiter in the 4th house brings wisdom, happiness, wealth, real estate, luxury, good relations with relatives. “Bhrigu Sutra” 5.19-23

If Jupiter is placed in the 4th house, the owner of the horoscope will be happy, intelligent, wise and virtuous. He will become a large landowner and will have an abundance of milk. When the lord of the 4th house is strong or is joined with Venus or the Moon, or is in beneficial vargas [divisional charts], the owner of the horoscope will have means of transport set in motion by people, a large
landed property, horses and a spacious house. If Jupiter is aspected by or joined with an inauspicious planet, an absence of property and living in the houses of others, the early death of the mother and hostile relations with his own relatives should be expected.

Comments:

The 4th house is a kendra, and the placement of Jupiter in it causes an expansion of the favourable characteristics of this house. Since the 4th house indicates academic education as well, great successes in this sphere should be expected. The owner of the horoscope will have a happy family life, good relations with relatives and with the mother (favourable family or ancestral karma). From the 4th house Jupiter influences the 8th house beneficially, and this speaks of a fairly great length of life. With a fortunate placement of the lord of the 4th house the owner of the horoscope will have prestigious means of transport.

Jupiter being in the 4th house in the signs of Sagittarius, Pisces or Cancer is very favourable, since hamsa yoga is formed, the results of which have already been described.

A conjunction of Jupiter and the Moon in the 4th house or the Moon being in other houses of the quadrant will give one of the most favourable yogas, called gajakesari yoga, the characteristics of which, according to the “Brihat Jataka”, are the following: “Many good relatives, courtesy, nobility. The owner of the horoscope will build cities, villages or govern them. He will have a lasting, good fame even a long time after his death”.

Other opinions concerning Jupiter in the 4th house:

“Brihat Jataka” — happiness and fortune await the child born, if Jupiter in his horoscope occupies the 4th house.

“Phaladipika” — the owner of the horoscope will have happiness from the mother, children, wife and friends. He will become a prosperous landowner.

“Saravali” — family happiness, the ownership of houses, means of transport, objects of luxury, wealth and victory over enemies.

“Chamatkar Chintamani” — a person with such a position of Jupiter in the horoscope will own horses and will take part in religious ceremonies. He will defeat his enemies.

Note: The views expressed above show that Jupiter gives quite favourable results when it is placed in the 4th house, but none of the sources mentioned above investigates this position of Jupiter as thoroughly as the “Bhrigu Sutra”.

The results of the placement of Jupiter (Guru) in the 4th house

With the position of Guru in the 4th Bhava the person receives fame and respect in society, he is always happy thanks to wealth and a means of transport and receives wealth as a consequence of the patronage of the king.

Comments: As a result of the position of Guru [Jupiter] in the 4th Bhava [house] the person enjoys various kinds of physical comfort. He has a big heart, and he is wise, possesses a good house, lands, horned cattle, wealth and so on — in sufficient measure. If in the birth chart the position of Shukra [Venus], Chandra [the Moon] and Guru [Jupiter] is strong, then the person has a first-class means of transport. The size of the person's house is proportionate to the beneficial influences upon Guru and to the strength of Jupiter itself, when it is placed in the 4th house. Besides this, he receives recognition in the world, happiness from agricultural land and from a costly means of transport. On the contrary, if Guru is weak, then the person will have a lack of happiness from all these things.
