Rahu in the 5th house and Ketu in the 11th house: Rahu in the 5th house gives more sons than daughters. Nevertheless, many authors consider that this is a bad placement for the success and health of children. Women with such a placement of Rahu may have abortions and illnesses of the womb. They have very close relations with their children. They dream of their successes and love to exaggerate their significance. The 5th house is creativity, cinema, art. Rahu represents reflection, photographs, film, enjoyment. Therefore, Rahu in the 5th house may create creative people, actors, artists, photographers, directors, especially if Venus is also favourably placed. The 5th house is also responsible for romance. Rahu is always accustomed to thinking and acting differently, not like everyone else — it loves to break traditions. Therefore Rahu leaves its imprint on romantic relationships. The person may have love affairs with people unsuitable in age or in social status. These relationships may provoke scandals. Rahu in the 5th house makes the person extraordinarily creative, and at the same time Rahu gives stormy, scandalous romances. The 5th house is responsible for machinations, intermediary affairs in business, financial manipulations, stock-exchange deals. Rahu strengthens these indications. If Rahu is not damaged by malefics and is under the aspect of benefic planets, the person will be able to earn a large fortune from speculative affairs, especially during the period of the mahadasha or antardasha of Rahu. Ketu in the 11th house does not give easy fulfilment of desires. It is considered that any planet gives good results in the 11th house. Least favourable of all is to have Ketu in the 11th house. Because the main task of Ketu is to block the indications of the house in which it is placed. Therefore such people must labour much in order to attain their goal. Ketu does not give many friends; such a person will have very few loyal friends. This blocking is activated in the dasha period of Ketu. When the period of the Rahu dasha is running, Ketu is unable to block the passions of Rahu. (Mahesh Dharmadasa)

Rahu in the 5th, Ketu in the 11th house: the karmic task
This placement of the nodes may generate the best or the worst of people, since the 5th and 11th houses have a direct relation to the mentality of the personality (the 5th) and interaction with others (the 11th). This placement of Rahu gives excess mental energy, which may be applied for good or for evil. Also Rahu in the 5th strengthens the other indications of the 5th house: intelligence, creativity, self-awareness, the merits and failings of the past, children, love for oneself and others, confidence, activity, education (informal), printed works, mantras, the chosen Deity and so on.
This house also commands the mass media, cinema, photographic art and the industry of mass entertainment. That is why in the charts of many prominent actors and people connected with cinema and theatre this placement of the nodes is present. Under a bad influence Rahu in the 5th may generate a mania of grandeur, if the Sun and Mars are also involved in this combination. This may relate not necessarily to dictators who torment whole peoples, but to any petty tyrant who may be a mini-tyrant at home or at work.
This placement may generate swindlers, rogues, thieves and robbers, if Mercury is afflicted or involved in this combination. Therefore one must learn to direct the energy of Rahu in the 5th house towards the public good, that is, towards the sphere of the 11th house.
Usually people with such a placement of Rahu have a break in their formal education. Such people prefer practical training to a classical education.
If Ketu in the 11th house works through the higher principle, then the affairs of the 11th house flourish. If Ketu is afflicted, then the 11th house proves blocked and therefore the native has few friends, and he does not participate in any humanitarian or public programmes. The result of this is an egocentric life.
The karmic task for people with this placement is the balancing of their own interests with the interests of the collective. From narrow self-awareness the person must pass to collective consciousness. This should become a stage on the path of the destruction of egoism, before the person can rise to the level of universal consciousness.
The 5th house is connected with the element of fire (the sign of Leo), and the 11th house is connected with the element of air (the sign of Aquarius). As is known, fire cannot burn without air, and air cannot be warm without fire. The fire produced by the 5th house must be distributed through the air of the 11th house to those who need this warmth. Such is the task for people with this combination.
Ketu in the 11th often generates misunderstanding with elder brothers and is not very favourable for them in most cases. The native also has many anxieties in connection with the birth and development of children. If the native has children, then he is a very worried parent.

“Bhrigu Sutra” 8.11-13
Childlessness or the loss of children as a consequence of the wrath of the Serpent god awaits the owner of the horoscope. After performing the puja of Naga-pratima he will be rewarded with children. The owner of the horoscope will be subjected to the wrath of the king or the government, will commit impious deeds, will live in bad places and will suffer from vata disorders.
Other opinions concerning Rahu in the 5th house:
“Phaladipika”: Rahu in the 5th house — childlessness, cruelty, illnesses of the stomach. Ketu in the 5th house — the loss of children, an absence of wisdom and a cruel disposition.
“Chamatkar Chintamani”: Rahu in the 5th house — the owner of the horoscope will have a son and will experience anxieties from his wife. Illnesses of the stomach await him. Ketu in the 5th house — illnesses of the stomach, a small number of children. Despite his boldness, the owner of the horoscope will be in a dependent position from other people.
Note: Bhrigu Muni gives the same characteristics for the placement of Rahu and Ketu in various houses. His opinion is based on the fact that these planets are always in the seventh house from each other and both exert an influence on the house. However the other classical texts, apart from the “Brihat Jataka” and the “Saravali”, which do not describe the results of the placement of the shadow planets in the houses of the horoscope, hold a different opinion.
We should like to add several important remarks concerning the placement of Rahu and Ketu in the houses of the horoscope. Concerning the characteristics of these planets there are three main opinions: 1) they act as the lord of the sign that they occupy, 2) their nature is like that of Mars and Saturn, and also 3) the view of Kalidasa given below. An experienced astrologer intuitively understands what influences the shadow planets conduct when he analyses a horoscope or draws up forecasts.
Relying on the famous classical work of Kalidasa, the “Uttara Kalamrita”, it may be said that, being shadow planets, these planets are not regarded as the lords of any houses or signs. If Rahu and Ketu are in conjunction (in the same sign) with a planet, then they take on its qualities, become conductors of its energy, and in their periods, or bhuktis, act like that planet. When the shadow planets do not enter into a conjunction — they give the results of the planet aspecting them. And only when Rahu and Ketu are neither joined nor aspected by planets do they act as the lord of the sign in which they are placed.
If one of the two nodes and the lord of a triad are placed in conjunction in the 9th or 10th houses or if one of them is in the 9th, and the other in the 10th, a favourable yoga is formed, which will bring prosperity to the owner of the horoscope. If at the same time a malefic planet enters into a conjunction with or aspects one of the shadow planets, then the bhukti [sub-period] of the yoga-karaka will prove unfavourable.
And a last remark. Rahu and Ketu become beneficial when they occupy the positions of a triad or of a kendra from the lagna. The shadow planets also prove beneficial when they are joined with the lords of a house of a triad or of a quadrant. But if at the same time the lord of the 9th house also owns the 8th (in the case of Gemini rising), or the 12th (in the case of Libra rising), and also if the lords of the 9th or 10th houses are joined with the lords of the 8th and 12th houses, the beneficial results of the yoga are lost.

The results of the placement of Rahu in the 5th house
Rahu, placed in the 5th Bhava, will deprive the person of happiness and friends, will give suffering because of acute pain in the abdomen and will make him wander (roam) aimlessly.
Comments: Because of the presence of Rahu in the 5th Bhava [house] obstacles will arise in the birth of the first child. Rahu in this Bhava often causes an abortion. Shri Ganesha Daivagya says in this connection that if in the 5th Bhava in the Rashi of Mesha [Aries], Vrishabha [Taurus] or Karka [Cancer] Ketu or Rahu is placed, then there will be no delay in the birth of progeny.
