Venus in the 8th house gives a long life and a peaceful, calm death — these are the usual consequences of the placement of Venus in this house. Entering into marriage will take place after some delay, or this person will be married twice, or else he will be married to a person unusual in character. Venus in the eighth house: Venus hides in the house of mysticism and secrets. This is a person who receives pleasure from secret and mysterious affairs. The uncovering of any secrets gives him pleasure. For example, Julian Assange [Wikileaks] has Venus in the 8th house. He probably received great pleasure when he published yet another secret. (K. N. Rao in the ‘Journal of Astrology’ gives his possible chart under the lagna of Scorpio). The person is capable of experiencing strong, deep emotions, sexual passions. Here Venus gives jealousy, envy, intrigues and hidden secret affairs. It is desirable to have no planets in the 8th house. All planets in the 8th house give, one way or another, more negative results. Mercury and Venus are considered less dangerous, because they give an easy, peaceful death without suffering. Venus in the 8th house gives a peaceful death. Death will take place in a beautiful, calm setting, beside close people. Venus in its own sign or in exaltation may give longevity. Also such a placement may give wealth and beauty, since from the 8th house Venus aspects the 2nd house. This is also the house of the wealth of the spouse (the 2nd house from the 7th). Therefore the person may receive/inherit wealth from his partner/former husband, alimony and so on. Such a Venus may give a great passion for money, a desire to earn by secret means. In a man's chart such a Venus may speak of a faithful wife. It may also give secret extramarital affairs. The person hides himself, and at the same time wants to dig up things about others. If Venus is damaged, scandalous romances arise, problems of marriage, of finances, illnesses of the urogenital organs. Venus in the 8th house is a good place for healers, doctors. Venus (Shukra) in the 8th house

Venus in the 8th house: this placement favourably influences the length of life and the financial condition, material gains from marriage and inheritance are possible. Problematic love affairs, a late marriage, poor health of the wife; losses in court cases. The placement of Venus in the 8th house in the signs of Cancer or Scorpio and under the aspect of Mars or Rahu causes illnesses of the kidneys, or of the urogenital system. Comments:

The great sage writes that the owner of the horoscope will be happy. This is explained by the fact that Venus, being placed in the 8th house, forms an arishta-bandha, or a removal of the destructive influence. Venus represents the mother for a person born in the daytime, therefore in sutra 46 it is said that with the placement of Venus in a dusthana, in the 8th house, the mother will be ill. The kalatra-karaka being in an unfavourable house explains dissatisfaction in family life. It should be noted that Venus in the 8th house is one of the indications of divorce and of a repeated marriage. As a benefic planet, Venus, being in the house of mystical experience, awakens an interest in spiritual knowledge, and also makes it possible to have considerable property, since the 8th house is the house of inheritance. The last indication will manifest most vividly in the cases of the signs of Virgo and Aries rising, because Venus will then influence its own 2nd house.

The main indications of the 8th house are death and the length of life. In the case of Venus being in it a peaceful death awaits the owner of the horoscope, and concerning the length of life exhaustive commentaries are given in sutras 47-48. In the analysis of a horoscope it is necessary to take into account that Venus being in a dusthana will also be badly reflected in the indications of the favourable houses that Venus rules.

The horoscope of Rajneesh illustrates the placement of Venus in the 8th house.

In this horoscope Venus is involved in a sanyasi yoga, which is formed if the lord of the 10th house interacts with three planets. But this yoga is placed in the 8th house and means that the spiritual merits of a past life may be directed towards worldly attainments. Five planets in the 8th house made this person a conductor of false philosophical conceptions. The principle he put forward, “enjoy!”, binds the conditioned soul still more strongly to the material objects of sensual enjoyments. To follow it is like trying to cure drug addiction by increasing the dose of the drug. Vedic philosophy says that to attain moksha, or liberation from the fetters of the material world, is possible only by developing spiritual attachment and by realising one's eternal interconnection with the Almighty.

Other opinions concerning Venus in the 8th house:

“Brihat Jataka” — the owner of the horoscope will be a low and base person.

“Phaladipika” — wealth, a long life and the ownership of landed property.

“Saravali” — a person who has Venus in the 8th house of the horoscope will be rich, happy and will have a long life.

“Chamatkar Chintamani” — a long life awaits the owner of the horoscope, the possession of all kinds of transport, and also a large number of debts. He will be coarse and unpleasant in company.

Note: The “Brihat Jataka” and the “Chamatkar Chintamani” note the negative qualities of the character of the owner of the horoscope, which will manifest when Venus is afflicted by Mars, Saturn, Rahu or Ketu.

The results of the placement of Venus (Shukra) in the 8th house

In the case of Shukra in the 8th Bhava the person is cheerful, receives the recognition of the king, is cunning and crafty, fearless, full of pride and haughtiness, and on occasion worries about and cares for his wife and son.

Comments: When Shukra [Venus] is placed in the 8th Bhava [house], it aspects the 2nd Bhava, thanks to which the person has no lack of wealth and money. If Shukra is endowed with strength, then the person earns wealth by decent and noble means, but if Shukra is debilitated, then the means of obtaining wealth are low, ignoble; the person is capable of indecently taking away the wealth of others. He considers himself the most intellectual. He is insufficiently intelligent and cannot debate correctly, therefore his reasonings are incorrect and inadequate. He resorts without hesitation to hypocrisy and pretension. It is known that such people use mantras (or incantations) incorrectly. There is a great probability of getting a mental illness and some harmful habit.

But if Shukra [Venus] is strong and not subject to malefic influences, then the results will be the opposite of those mentioned above. Such a person will obtain happiness from a beautiful wife. His wife speaks beautifully and is devoted to him. The person receives property as an heir or successor. He also increases his wealth thanks to the help of his wife, receives profit thanks to partnership and receives wealth as a guardian (an owner or a person disposing of property).
