Rahu in Sagittarius

Rahu in Sagittarius: loss of property, bad relations with the family, failures in all undertakings. When Rahu is in conjunction with a favourable planet or under positive aspects, success, fame, money and a good reputation await the person. Such a combination also makes the person religious. (Sri Govind Swarup Agarwal)

Rahu and Ketu are known as aprakasha, the shadow planets. Therefore the classical texts give no description of the placement of these planets in the signs of the zodiac. Since their nature is shadowy, Rahu and Ketu often take on the properties of the lords of the sign in which they are placed. In doing so one must look at how the lord of the sign in which Rahu and Ketu are placed is himself placed. If he is strong, then the possibilities of the shadow planets will also be great, and vice versa. (Indubala)

The karmic task with Rahu placed in Sagittarius — Ketu in Gemini

The presence of Ketu in Gemini prompts the person to strive for mercurial goals. Such a person strives to collect information. Often the person is unable to go into anything in detail. In our age of the information boom an overdose of information is a typical diagnosis for people with such a placement. Such a person often takes up everything but really knows how to do nothing.

He has to spend a great deal of time with younger relatives. He often sacrifices his own interests in order to help others. The ability to communicate and a good sense of humour are the strong sides of such people.

For Ketu this is a neutral sign. Therefore in the periods and sub-periods of Ketu one should not expect great material goods. In these periods numerous sharp changes are possible. In this troubled time one must preserve a restrained and philosophical approach to life.

Rahu in the optimistic sign of Sagittarius brings onto the stage of life the indications of the 9th house: religion, philosophy, psychology, ethics, the universal laws of development. Such a person is to learn to see the general picture of the world, since he has a tendency to lose himself in trifles («he cannot see the wood for the trees»). One must also develop within oneself respect for the opinion of others and openness in relationships.

Such people develop their own philosophy of life, but it should not be imposed on everyone. Such a placement of Rahu-Ketu has engendered many intellectuals, philosophers, researchers and media workers.

This is a good placement for study and for spreading knowledge, but one must find a balance between physics (the 3rd house, Gemini) and metaphysics (the 9th house, Sagittarius). Such people, as a rule, take an interest in various occult paths on an intellectual level, but they refrain from practice. In some cases, when the houses of devotion (the 4th, 5th, 8th, 12th) are involved in this axis, devotion to one's cause or devotion to a Deity through which the person strives for salvation increases.

The placement of Jupiter points to the sphere for applying one's efforts in this life, and the placement of Mercury points to past talents.

There will be certain problems with the material indications of the house in which Ketu is placed. In Gemini Ketu is weakened, and this is bad for the appearance of progeny. When Ketu falls into the 5th house, boys are usually not born.

Sagittarius is the sign of weakening for Rahu, and therefore this placement does not favour material prosperity (except in those cases where other indications point otherwise). But Rahu behaves most calmly in this sign. It strengthens the living indications of the house in which it is placed. For example, Rahu in Sagittarius in the 4th house increases good fortune and length of life for the mother, and points to strong relations with the mother or with figures playing the role of a mother.

Example: Napoleon Bonaparte. His axis fell in the 3rd and 9th houses, and communications became a key element in his life. Various examples from his life showed how his oratorical art  more than once saved his position. In life he was concerned with action and knowledge.

Rahu in Sagittarius and Ketu in Gemini: Ketu in Gemini shows that in a past life the person was very intelligent and looked at the world with an analytical gaze. Rahu in Sagittarius shows a passion for creating one's own philosophy. The person wants to create an ideal world, a teaching, statutes, on the basis of the information he received in a past life. Usually they have their own framework of correctness. The person wants to create his own teaching, relying more on his intuition than on traditional knowledge. They know how to attract people's attention and find an audience through their own special approach.

Jupiter rules Sagittarius. It is the largest planet and its chief task is expansion. Rahu too is responsible for expansion. Therefore the effects of Rahu are further strengthened when it is in the sign of Sagittarius. That is, they strengthen each other's effects. This is considered a very favourable placement when Rahu and Jupiter are not under the influence of malefics.

Not every philosophy carries creative energy. For example, the founder of the largest financial pyramid in Russia is Sergei Mavrodi. He was born when Rahu was in Sagittarius. Jupiter (the ruler of Sagittarius) was exalted in Cancer together with Venus (wealth) in close conjunction with Venus (Jupiter 19 degrees, Venus 18 degrees). The Sun and Mars were also in Cancer. An exalted Saturn also casts an aspect upon Jupiter. Here Mars is in debilitation, and a debilitated Mars gives crafty, treacherous plans. Millions of inhabitants of Russia fell under the power of his suggestion. It was planned so craftily that even the shares with his photograph resembled Soviet rouble notes with Lenin.

The leader of Tibetan Buddhism, the Dalai Lama, was born when Rahu was in Sagittarius. He is very popular in the West as a Buddhist spiritual leader. Rahu in Sagittarius gives a wish to create something of one's own. Such people invent new teachings or give a new direction to a teaching that already exists. The profound teaching of Gautama Buddha is written in the 'Tripitaka', which consists of 40 volumes. Nevertheless, we do not see the Dalai Lama expounding any complex principles of Buddhism. He simply tells people about love, kindness and compassion. He knows how to convey complex doctrines in simple words. I think this has become the key factor in his popularity in the West. Rahu in his chart is under the aspect of the Sun (the state) and Mars (war). He has been in exile since 1959, fearing persecution by the authorities of China.

In this life the person needs to learn to live more simply, heeding his inner voice and not losing himself in an endless search for absolute truth and perfection.(Mahesh Dharmadasa)
