Jupiter in the 5th house: Jupiter in the 5th house gives a high intellect and a good education. This is a very kind, caring and respected, spiritual person. Jupiter is responsible for children, and the 5th house is also responsible for children. A fruitful Jupiter in a fruitful house will be occupied only with creating children, and therefore it does not manage to engage in other kinds of creativity. He will have more boys than girls. When the sign of Cancer is in the 5th house, he will have more daughters. But when Jupiter is in its own sign, it is difficult for him to have children. If he does have children, with time complicated relations with them arise. Many consider this not a good placement for children. A person with Jupiter in the 5th or 9th house is endowed with extraordinary intuition. If Jupiter is in a panaphara (the 2nd, 5th, 8th and 11th houses) — the later period of life is favourable. “Bhrigu Sutra” 5.24-31
A person with Jupiter in the 5th house of the horoscope will have large, expressive eyes. He will become intelligent, celebrated, inclined towards charity, a good conversationalist and an excellent family man. In the 18th year of life he will be appointed commander of the army thanks to the mercy of the king. He will have many children, who will become prosperous and fortunate. If the lord of the 5th house is strong and at the same time is in the sign of an inauspicious planet or of his enemy, or in the sign of debilitation, the loss of children should be expected. If this does not happen, there will be only one child. The owner of the horoscope will become rich, but, as a consequence of fines imposed by the king or the government, will lose his fortune. When Jupiter is joined with Rahu or Ketu, the loss of children is possible because of the wrath of the Serpent god*; but this will not happen if Jupiter is aspected by a benefic planet.
Comments:
Jupiter, being in a trikona, manifests its favourable qualities to the maximum and strengthens the positive characteristics of the house. From the 5th house Jupiter influences the 9th and 1st houses. Therefore a person having such a position of Jupiter in the horoscope will be religious, pious, fortunate (already at an early age he will be able to occupy a high position), attractive, charming and popular. This placement of Jupiter gives excellent pedagogical abilities, an inclination towards prayer, education, wisdom,
intelligence and wealth.
In order to give the correct characteristics of a planet in a house, it is necessary to have knowledge of the planet as a karaka, that is, of the semantic load that it carries. For example, Jupiter is the dhana-karaka — the indicator of wealth, the significator of the 2nd house, the putra-karaka — the indicator of children, the significator of the 5th house, and the gyana-karaka — the indicator of higher knowledge, the significator of the 9th house. Since the 5th house is favourable, then, correspondingly, all these qualities of Jupiter are revealed in the best way.
However we should like to draw the reader's attention to the placement of a planet in its own house. According to the theory of “Karaka-bhava-nashaya”, in this case negative characteristics manifest. We were able to see this in the example of the placement of Mars in the 3rd house (an absence of brothers or troubles because of them), of Mercury in the 6th house (obstacles in obtaining an education), of the Moon in the 4th house (the early death or illness of the mother) and so on. Jupiter is the most benefic planet and, being in the house of children, it brings negative results only in the case of an affliction, which is what is described in sutras 26-31. However, the 26th sutra begins in the following way: “If the lord of the 5th house is strong and, at the same time, is in the sign of an inauspicious planet, or of his enemy, or in the sign of debilitation…” Perhaps, in the repeated copying of the ancient sutras an error crept in, since, being in a hostile sign, and all the more in the sign of its debilitation, a planet loses strength. All the negative characteristics are realised with the weakness of the lord of the house. But the beneficial strength of Jupiter is so great that a single aspect of a good planet is enough to neutralise all the negative influences.
The most favourable will be the placement of Jupiter in Cancer in the 5th house. In that case the lagna is placed in Pisces, and Jupiter, the lord of the 1st and 10th houses, is exalted in the 5th house.
Other opinions concerning Jupiter in the 5th house:
“Brihat Jataka” — a person with such a position of Jupiter will be intelligent.
“Phaladipika” — the owner of the horoscope will be very clever. Perhaps he will become a minister of the king, but he will be unhappy because of the absence of children.
“Saravali” — happiness, many children, education, patience and wealth.
“Chamatkar Chintamani” — the owner of the horoscope will love objects of luxury. He will become a good orator and a writer with an excellent imagination. Wealth will come to him through children.

The results of the placement of Jupiter (Guru) in the 5th house
If at the time of birth Guru is placed in the 5th Bhava, then the person enjoys happiness thanks to a good friend and a son, knows the Mantra Shastra, is endowed with many kinds of wealth, with means of transport, and he has gentle speech.
Comments: The 5th Bhava [house] is the Bhava of the Mantra Shastras (mantras), of progeny (a son), of amusements and so on, and their Karaka [significator] is Guru [Jupiter]. Therefore if at the time of birth Jupiter occupies the 5th house, then the person loves amusements and is an epicurean (a follower of the philosophy of Epicurus, who preached faith in pleasures as the goal of life). He is logical in his relations, able to consider the various aspects of any problem that he meets. But if, being in the 5th Bhava in his own Rashi [sign], Guru is afflicted by a malefic or malefic Grahas [planets], then the person will dwell in sorrow because of the death of his son. Besides this, if Guru in this Bhava is in the Rashi of debilitation or if he is in the Rashi of a malefic Graha and receives malefic influences, then the person will have grief connected with his progeny (his son). On the contrary, if Guru is in a benefic Rashi, is endowed with strength and receives beneficial influences, then the person will be happy from a healthy, long-living and developed son, and the person himself will be wise, intellectual, with holy (pure) ideas, he will have a modest character, he will be kind-hearted, with religious thinking and broad knowledge of his teaching. Perhaps he will earn wealth thanks to a joint (shared) business, playing the stock exchange (on prices), games of chance, bets on horse races, lotteries or the like.
