Jupiter in the 2nd house

The results given by Jupiter in the second house of the horoscope

Jupiter in the 2nd house: This is the house of money and the family. Jupiter exerts a favourable influence on the family and increases financial well-being. He does not fall morally. If difficulties arise, then the problems make the person even stronger. When he needs it, money always comes his way. He speaks very calmly, logically and pragmatically. Jupiter makes him very caring towards the family. He will have a good wife and children. Garga Muni said that the aspect of Mercury gives financial difficulties. If Jupiter is damaged, then the person will be sluggish, lazy, a glutton. Illnesses of the thyroid gland are possible. (Mahesh Dharmadasa)

Jupiter (Guru) in the 2nd house

Jupiter in the 2nd house. Wealth, truthfulness, intelligence, an inclination towards spiritual knowledge and prayer, eloquence, a good family. Such people can be very talkative and garrulous, and with an affliction of Jupiter an inclination towards lying and stealing may show itself. (Indubala)

Jupiter in the 2nd house: well provided for, able to foresee the future, pleasant and truthful speech. Strives towards an ideal and attains it. Careful with money, loves sweets. This position in a woman's horoscope says that its owner will die before her husband. A person with Jupiter in the 2nd house lives long. Jupiter and Venus, ruling angular houses and placed in the 2nd or 7th  house, become dangerous marakas. If Jupiter is in a panaphara (the 2nd, 5th, 8th and 11th houses) — the later period of life is favourable. Jupiter in the 1st, 2nd, 10th or 11th house says that the person will obtain material well-being with the help of elder relatives or by working in a financial institution. “Bhrigu Sutra” 5.7-12

If Jupiter is in the 2nd house, the owner of the horoscope will become rich, strong and intelligent. Whatever he predicts will turn out to be true. In his 16th year of life he will receive great profits and will prosper in the agricultural sphere. If Jupiter is placed in its own sign or in the sign of exaltation, the owner of the horoscope will be fortunate, prosperous and rich. When Jupiter is joined with a malefic planet, obstacles will arise in obtaining an education. A person with such a placement of Jupiter will be untruthful, will have thievish inclinations and vulgar speech. If Jupiter is in the sign of debilitation and is joined with an inauspicious planet, the owner of the horoscope will become a drunkard and an immoral person. He will be the cause of the destruction of his family and will have relations with the wives of other people. Besides, such a position of Jupiter speaks of childlessness.

Comments:

The 2nd house, the dhana bhava, is the house of wealth, and Jupiter, being in it, will bring material prosperity in the early period of the owner of the horoscope's life. Besides, the 2nd house indicates education, speech and the family. An afflicted Jupiter will not be able to overcome the negative influence of the 2nd house and unfavourable indications will manifest in these characteristics. Jupiter, being the putra-karaka — the indicator of children and the significator of the 5th house, being in Capricorn, the sign of its debilitation, and in a maraka sthana, will make the owner of the horoscope childless.

Dhana yogas, the combinations of planets indicating wealth, arise in the following cases:

  • the lagna in Scorpio, Jupiter in Sagittarius in the 2nd house as the lord of the 2nd and 5th houses;
  • the lagna in Aquarius, Jupiter in Pisces as the lord of the 2nd and 11th houses;
  • the lagna in Gemini, Jupiter in Cancer in the 2nd house as the lord of the 7th and 10th houses;
  • the lagna in Virgo, Jupiter in Libra in the 2nd house, as the lord of the 4th and 7th houses.

In the absence of a conjunction with an inauspicious planet, Jupiter, being in the house of the family, speaks of a good marriage partner and a happy family life.

Other opinions concerning Jupiter in the 2nd house:

“Brihat Jataka” — eloquence and wealth.

“Phaladipika” — the owner of the horoscope will be intelligent, handsome, eloquent and will enjoy good food.

“Saravali” — wealth, luxury, beauty, generosity, mercy and eloquence.

“Chamatkar Chintamani” — a person with such a placement of Jupiter will have good organisational abilities, but in spite of all his efforts, will not be able to obtain wealth. He will be talkative and inclined towards poetry, but he may perhaps experience a lack of the food that he likes.

Note: The “Brihat Jataka” does not say anything about wealth, the “Chamatkar Chintamani” expresses the view that the owner of the horoscope will not be rich. Perhaps this assertion is based on the theory of “Karaka-bhava-nashaya”, according to which Jupiter, being the dhana-karaka, the indicator of wealth, being in the dhana bhava, the house of wealth, ought to lose its favourable qualities. However the might of Jupiter is so great that unfavourable results arise only with an affliction of this planet, which are brilliantly described by Bhrigu Muni in sutras 10-12. The “Phaladipika” and the “Saravali” share the opinion of the “Bhrigu Sutra” with regard to wealth, and our practical experience also proves the justice of the ancient sage.

All the beneficial qualities of Jupiter in the 2nd house and in its own sign of Pisces are vividly illustrated by the horoscope of the President of the USA Abraham Lincoln.

From the horoscope one can see that it was precisely Jupiter in its sign of Pisces and the exalted Venus in the 2nd house that brought the owner of the horoscope such a high position.

The results of the placement of Jupiter (Guru) in the 2nd house

In the case of the placement of Guru in the 2nd Bhava the person has a beautiful facial expression (appearance), he is endowed with education, virtues and fame, he has no enemies, he is very beneficent, of good character, prosperous and rich.

Comments: The 2nd Bhava [house] is connected with speech, art, poetry and the like. Therefore if Guru [Jupiter] is in the 2nd Bhava, then the person loves poetry and directly has a talent for writing verse. The speech of such a person is authoritative. He is clever in conversation and eloquent. Guru in the 2nd Bhava aspects the 8th Bhava, that is, the face of the person's wife; therefore the person's wife is beautiful. According to Maharishi Garga such a person is rich and always enthusiastic, full of enthusiasm and energy, but if Jupiter is placed in the 2nd house in the Rashi [sign] of Mangala [Mars], then the person has a very short life, and he dies at the age of 6.
