The nakshatra Krittika (26°40′ of Aries — 10°00′ of Taurus, the ruling planet is the Sun) is represented in the firmament by six bright stars in the open star cluster of the Pleiades. «Krittika» in translation means «axe»; the name of the nakshatra is also translated as «the cutting one». Krittika is a star of demonic nature, but possessing forces of a mixed character. Another name of this star is Kartika, after Kartikeya, the son of Lord Shiva. Kartikeya is the commander of the heavenly army of the gods. The star is under the patronage of Agni, the god of fire. Birth under this star gives physical and creative powers, ardour, fervour, and also the energy to attain greatness.
