The Moon in the 2nd house
The results given by the Moon in the second house of the horoscope
Chandra (the Moon) in the 2nd house
The Moon in the 2nd house: Practicality, love of the family, immoderation in food is possible, persuasive, soft speech, an inheritance, a changeable financial position. (Indubala)
The Moon in the second house: an attractive face, pleasant manners, strong family ties, magnanimity. (Shri Govind Swarup Agarwal)
The Moon in the 2nd house: The Moon makes the person beautiful. Many poets have compared feminine beauty with the Moon. Such a person has beautiful eyes, mouth and face. With his beautiful speech he knows how to attract people’s attention to himself. He finds a faithful, noble wife. This is the place of the family. A good Moon here does everything for the good of the family. He loves his family and looks after it. He somehow always finds money when he needs it. The Moon in the 2nd house gives diseases of the throat. A full Moon here gives excellent results. This is also the house of wealth. A favourable Moon in this house makes the person wealthy and educated. If the lagna is Aquarius, Sagittarius or Leo, the Moon may not bring good results as the ruler of the 6th, 8th or 12th house. (Mahesh Dharmadasa)
“Bhrigu Sutra” 2.9-14
The owner of the horoscope possesses an attractive appearance, fame and wealth, but may be content with little. At 18 he will be appointed commander-in-chief. With a ruinous aspect to the Moon the owner of the horoscope will be uneducated, and with a favourable influence or conjunction — on the contrary — learned and wealthy. The favourable characteristics are strengthened with a full Moon in the 2nd house.
Comments:
Among the other characteristics of the 2nd house an influence on the appearance is also noted, therefore the presence of the Moon in the 2nd house, as in the 1st, will give attractiveness, magnetism and charm. The assertion that at 18 the owner of the horoscope will be appointed to a high post by the king was true in Vedic times. It is hardly possible in our days. But the placement of the Moon in the 2nd house in the signs of Aries, Taurus and Cancer helps the owner of the horoscope to attain considerable professional successes in his young years, and also high patronage.
The 2nd house is the house of wealth and education, and the presence in it of a favourable Moon, unafflicted by negative aspects, will bring wealth and a good education. It is especially noted that all the positive tendencies are strengthened with a full Moon, that is, with the Sun placed in the eighth house. Among the other characteristics, the 2nd house indicates speech, therefore people with the Moon in the 2nd house of the horoscope are eloquent and speak softly but persuasively. From the 2nd house the Moon influences the 8th, therefore it is quite possible that an inheritance awaits the owner of the horoscope. As a consequence of the changeable nature of the Moon the financial position of the owner of the horoscope will be unstable, but a strong Moon unafflicted by malefic planets will give wealth and a good education.
Other opinions concerning the Moon (Chandra) in the 2nd house:
“Brihat Jataka” — the owner of the horoscope will have a large family.
“Phaladipika” — with the Moon placed in the 2nd house the owner of the horoscope will possess a soft character and will experience all material enjoyments. He will have a speech defect.
“Saravali” — material goods, happiness, good friends and wealth await the owner of the horoscope. With a full Moon great wealth is possible.
“Chamatkar Chintamani” — the owner of the horoscope will attain high prosperity. He will be endowed with robust health. Such a person will be loved and honoured in his family.
Note: All the authors agree that the placement of the Moon in the 2nd house will bring very favourable results in the absence of a ruinous influence on the Moon. The positive qualities of the Moon in the 2nd house are strengthened with a fortunate placement of the lord of the 2nd house in the horoscope. However good results should not be expected if the Moon is the lady of the 6th, 8th or 12th houses, that is, with Aquarius, Sagittarius and Leo rising respectively.

«Jataka Bharanam» 17:14
THE RESULTS OF THE PLACEMENT OF CHANDRA [THE MOON] IN THE 2ND BHAVA [HOUSE]
A person in whose birth chart a full Chandra is in the 2nd Bhava will be happy, humble, and will possess offspring and wealth. If a waning Chandra is in this Bhava, then the person will be a liar, poor and of weak reason (intellect). If Chandra is average in strength, then the results will be proportional to its strength <that is, average>.
Comments: One of the names of Chandra [the Moon] is “Ranka” (“extremely poor”). If Chandra in the 2nd Bhava is devoid of strength, then, in accordance with this name of its, it will make the person very poor. With a strong Chandra situated in the 2nd Bhava in conjunction with a benefic Graha and aspected by a benefic Graha, the person will be handsome, since the 2nd Bhava is connected with the person’s face. Experienced astrologers also examine a person’s education from the 2nd Bhava. Therefore it is in the order of things that a waning Chandra in the 2nd Bhava will deprive the person of education. If Chandra is devoid of strength in the 2nd Bhava, then the person has a narrow outlook and a lack of shrewdness; he lacks foresight. Such a person cannot correctly assess his means and resources, his surroundings and position, and therefore he is incapable of making plans for his future achievements by means of which he could obtain profit.
