Jupiter in the 12th house

The results given by Jupiter in the twelfth house of the horoscope

Jupiter in the 12th house: A bad place for Jupiter. He will have to face court cases, problems with enemies, isolation, exile and other troubles. Jupiter may send him on distant journeys, where the person will have to face troubles. They may become victims of thieves. Also here Jupiter gives unnecessary expenses and tormenting illnesses. If Jupiter is favourably placed, the person will become very kind, merciful, and such a woman will have a kind, spiritual husband. Such people actively engage in charity and help the sick, the old, children and other helpless people. The person may engage in charity, but at the same time may not receive gratitude. They often work in hospitals, prisons, children's homes, and other places where the sick and the helpless are found. Jupiter in the 12th house gives few children. The well-known astrologer J. N. Bashin wrote that Jupiter in the 12th house gives severe financial difficulties, especially if the person was born under the lagna of Aquarius. (Mahesh Dharmadasa)

Jupiter (Guru) in the 12th house

Jupiter in the 12th house. Poverty and failures, an inclination towards solitude, dissatisfaction with one's life, burdensome duties with regard to children, dubious principles and unseemly deeds. At the end of life such people perform many good deeds, which secures them a good next birth. (Indubala)

Jupiter in the 12th house: a good placement of Jupiter for meditations, for obtaining secret sources of income, for the accumulation of wealth. With age the passions give way to religiousness and thoughts of spiritual liberation (Moksha). When transiting Jupiter enters the sign of Cancer, the person may set out on a distant journey. Jupiter in the 12th house under the aspect of Venus makes the person very well provided for. For people with the Ascendant in Aries the position of Jupiter in the 12th house or in the sign of its fall will bring good fruits. If Jupiter is in an apoklima (the 3rd, 6th, 9th and 12th houses) — the early years of life are happy. “Bhrigu Sutra” 5.54-58

The owner of the horoscope will be poor and will have few children. An inclination towards science, research, towards mathematics will show itself in him, but his character will be bad, and his behaviour — dissolute. If Jupiter is joined with a benefic planet or is in its own sign or in the sign of exaltation, the owner of the horoscope will depart to the heavens after his death. A conjunction of Jupiter with a malefic planet is an indication of a descent into the lower worlds after death. A person having Jupiter in the 12th house of the horoscope will donate money to temples, but will have sexual relations with women of the higher caste and with pregnant women.

Comments:

The 12th house is the strongest dusthana, and even Jupiter loses its favourable qualities, being in this house. If Jupiter is the lord of kendras or trikonas, then their characteristics too are negatively affected. The 6th, 8th and 12th houses are dusthanas, but if the lords of these houses are placed in one of them, a favourable viparita raja yoga arises, granting name, fame and wealth. This view is confirmed by the following shloka from the “Uttara Kalamrita” (4.22):

“If any of the following planetary combinations arises:

  • the lord of the 8th house is in the 6th or in the 12th houses;
  • the lord of the 6th house is placed in the 8th or in the 12th houses;
  • the lord of the 12th house is in the 8th or in the 12th houses;
  • the three lords named, connected in any way: by a mutual exchange of houses, by a mutual aspect or by a conjunction and, at the same time, free from such a connection with other planets,

… then the owner of the horoscope will become an emperor over other kings and will be blessed with fame and wealth”.

In modern Vedic astrology, along with the positions listed, the placements of the lord of the 12th house in the 12th, of the 8th house in the 8th and of the 6th house in the 6th house are also considered favourable. If Jupiter satisfies any of these conditions, it may become very beneficial in the 12th, 8th or in the 6th houses as well.

The remark of the great sage about “the heavens and the lower worlds after death” should be considered in accordance with our commentaries on the placement of the Moon in the 12th house of the horoscope.

Other opinions concerning Jupiter in the 12th house:

“Brihat Jataka” — a person with such a position of Jupiter in the horoscope will become a villain and a criminal.

“Phaladipika” — the owner of the horoscope will be unloved by other people and coarse in his speech. He will be childless, lazy, will have dubious principles and will occupy a subordinate position.

“Saravali” — laziness, coarse speech, failures.

“Chamatkar Chintamani” — the owner of the horoscope, in spite of all his efforts to do good deeds, will not receive any praise. He will be foolish and will lose his fortune.

Note: All the classical texts give a negative interpretation of the placement of Jupiter in the 12th house.

The results of the placement of Jupiter (Guru) in the 12th house

If Guru is placed in the 12th Bhava [house], then he will make the person full of anger because of various factors that excite the senses; he is sinful, gives himself up to idleness, to shamelessness, is deprived of reason and receives no respect.

Comments: If Guru [Jupiter] is placed in the 12th Bhava [house], then the person is filled with self-conceit and pride. He is inclined to speak exaggerating his merits, therefore he is not respected. Because of the habit of spending money generously he spends the wealth he has accumulated eccentrically and excessively. Other people deceive him, merely by flattering him. He suffers, loses much because of great expenditures on that in which there is no necessity. He also lacks the ability to cooperate (to communicate) with people close to him. His speech is insufficiently delicate and cultured and irritates others. Such a person does not restrict himself in food and drink. Jupiter in the 12th house often makes the person an alcoholic. Besides this, the person is inclined towards idleness, envies his teachers, is hostile towards his servants and his brothers, loves to make trips and journeys, has some illness of the intimate organs, is inclined towards anger, prospers thanks to the father's wealth and possesses a restless character.
