Rahu in Scorpio

Rahu in Scorpio: crafty, amoral, gains victory over opponents thanks to the assistance of the authorities; has much landed property. (Sri Govind Swarup Agarwal)

Rahu and Ketu are known as aprakasha, the shadow planets. Therefore the classical texts give no description of the placement of these planets in the signs of the zodiac. Since their nature is shadowy, Rahu and Ketu often take on the properties of the lords of the sign in which they are placed. In doing so one must look at how the lord of the sign in which Rahu and Ketu are placed is himself placed. If he is strong, then the possibilities of the shadow planets will also be great, and vice versa. (Indubala)

The karmic task with Rahu placed in Scorpio — Ketu in Taurus

The presence of Ketu in the earth sign of Taurus points to artistic talents or to strong venusian admixtures in the person's character. An aesthetic approach to life and a heightened sensitivity to the subtle things of this world are observed in him.

Such a person's past life was stable from the point of view of material guarantees. But in this life the person will have to pass through a period of material uncertainty, especially in the first half of life. Success comes only after some struggle. Nothing works out the first time. The second half of life is, as a rule, more successful than the first.

In this sign Ketu occupies a neutral position. In the period and sub-period of Ketu the person receives no particular material goods. It gives the person a certain spiritual vision that allows him to see the material world in the right perspective. In this sign Ketu teaches: «Do not be too attached to the material world».

The basis of such a person's character is made up of the qualities of Taurus — constancy, stubbornness, stability, conservatism, acquisitiveness, refinement, idealism in love, aesthetics, the building of relationships.

Rahu in Scorpio is neutral. In this life Rahu reveals the qualities of Scorpio and brings them to the surface. A tendency towards renewal through the destruction of old forms manifests. This placement gives reformers, revolutionaries, soldiers, social workers, spies, detectives, researchers, astrologers, philosophers, occultists and people of other unusual professions. This placement points to a sphere in which an element of risk or danger is present.

To balance the extremes represented by the 2nd and 8th houses in the natal chart — that is the karmic task of such a placement. This is one of the most difficult placements. The placement of Venus points to hidden talents from a past life, and the placement of Mars points to the sphere for applying one's efforts and to the possibilities of this life.

Example: Swami Vivekananda embodies the struggle and the victory connected with this placement. His Rahu in Scorpio in the 12th house led him through a series of painful transformations, which implied great austerities and denying himself many things. But the same Rahu gave him success abroad, so that he might share his experience with others.

Rahu in Scorpio and Ketu in Taurus: Ketu in Taurus shows that in a past life the person was prosperous and lived in comfort. This is a person who worked purposefully, accumulated wealth and enjoyed life. Rahu in Scorpio shows the person's dissatisfaction with what he has and with what surrounds him. They do not want to build life on the foundation that exists. They want to change everything and to build their life anew in another place. In these people a great transformation of the personality is observed throughout their life. The chief sphere of this transformation can be determined by the house in which Rahu and its dispositor are placed. Parashara Muni and some other sages considered that Rahu is debilitated in Scorpio. Usually Rahu thirsts for easy comfort. Here the passion of Rahu provokes the person to look at life from another side. Often they become fond of unconventional knowledge and of the mysteries of the world. At a certain stage of life sharp changes occur for them. The person's views of the world change.

Swami Vivekananda was one of the first sages who spread Hinduism in the Western world. The turning point in his life is considered to be his meeting with his spiritual teacher (Ramakrishna Paramahansa). Swami Vivekananda was born under the rising sign of Sagittarius, and Rahu was in Scorpio in the 12th house. In his life the transformation took place in the field of religion; he became an ascetic and spread Hinduism in distant lands. Mars (the ruler of Scorpio) was in the 12th house in its own sign (Aries) under the aspect of Jupiter. These people must understand that an enormous transformation will take place in their life. They must go to meet these changes and not resist them. They must also be bold and not be afraid to take risky decisions at the necessary moment. Since the time of their past life a passion for stability has been laid down in their genes. Therefore not everyone is ready to take risks and to experiment. (Mahesh Dharmadasa)
