Venus in the twelfth house: A bad place for Venus. Money goes away in an incomprehensible way. Venus here brings unsuccessful romances, extramarital affairs, harmful habits, secret affairs. The person may not suffer greatly if it is in its own sign or in exaltation. The person may obtain success, wealth far from his native place. Such a person likes to travel to distant countries, to be in isolation and to meditate. In a man's chart this may mean that he will find a wife far from his own region. On the whole, for marriage this is a bad place, since the 12th house = the 6th from the 7th house. The person himself may fall head over heels in love and care for his partner, but he may find such a partner from whom it is impossible to receive mutual love. The 12th house is sleep and the bed. The bedroom for such people is a whole world. They carefully select the interior objects for the bedroom and love to lie about in their little bed. Often they enjoy beautiful dreams. They possess creative abilities. But instead of realising themselves and applying their abilities, they think, dream and fantasise more. With the placement of Venus in the 12th house of the horoscope the person will face extreme poverty. When Venus is joined with a malefic planet, the owner of the horoscope will become inclined to indulge his sexual desires. If Venus is joined with a benefic planet, the master of the horoscope will be very rich, will receive all sexual enjoyments and will go to the heavens after death. He will go to the lower worlds if Venus is in conjunction with a malefic planet.

The 12th house is the house of losses and deceit, and Venus, as the kalatra-karaka, being in this house, may indicate the sudden death of the marriage partner, and also deceits on the part of representatives of the opposite sex. Being the significator of the 12th house and being in it, Venus gives a striving for excessive enjoyment of sex and luxury, wastefulness, extravagance and untruthfulness. If Venus experiences a negative influence, the loss of reputation, a scandal, disgrace or dishonour possibly awaits the owner of the horoscope.
Venus will manifest its positive qualities in a striving towards charity, towards the making of donations, in an interest in occult, mystical knowledge and spiritual practices. This placement of Venus does not give steadiness in religious convictions. The Vedic tradition says that with charity positive karma is built up, and with a donation to a temple or a church the burning of karma takes place. It is precisely by this that the words of Bhrigu Muni about “the heavens after death” in the case of a fortunate placement of Venus in the 12th house are explained.
Other opinions concerning Venus in the 12th house:
“Brihat Jataka” — wealth.
“Phaladipika” — wealth and a multitude of sexual relations.
“Saravali” — the owner of the horoscope will be lazy and self-satisfied. A predisposition towards stoutness will show itself in him. His character will be low, base and dishonest. He will become skilled in sex, and women will have great power over him.
“Chamatkar Chintamani” — a person who has Venus placed in the 12th house of the horoscope will become rich. He will destroy his reputation and lose his good qualities, and will be hostilely disposed towards his friends and other people.
Note: Apart from the “Saravali”, all the sources express the opinion that Venus in the 12th house will bring wealth to the owner of the horoscope. According to the “Bhrigu Sutra”, a person with such a placement of Venus in the horoscope will face extreme poverty, but will be very rich if Venus is joined with a benefic planet. Our practical experience confirms the opinion of the sutras. As the indicator of finances, being in the most unfavourable house, which is, besides, its own for Venus, it will not be able to manifest its good qualities without the support received from a conjunction with a beneficial planet. Apart from this, a placement in a dusthana will also cause the manifestation of the negative characteristics of the houses of which Venus is the mistress.
