Nakshatra Bharani
The nakshatra Bharani (2nd of the 27 nakshatras, 13° 20′ — 26° 40′ of Aries) consists of three faint stars to the east of Ashwini, forming a triangle in the constellation of Aries. Bharani — is a «manushya», an «earthly» star of a bad nature. The influence of this star — is restraining, limiting. People born under the influence of this star live a life full of struggle and suffering. This nakshatra is ruled by Yamaraj — the god of death and justice.
Listen about the nakshatra Bharani — Ruslan Narushevich >>
The Moon in Bharani speaks of a person successful in work, capable, truthful, free from illnesses and sorrows.
The symbol of this nakshatra is the vulva. The ruling deity is Yama, the god of death, who in India is called the king of dharma. The womb symbolism of Bharani indicates changes taking place within, often ripening covertly, in order then suddenly to come into the world and demand a place under the sun for themselves. In this sense Bharani signifies impulses of the soul, often being the harbingers of physical violence and therefore needing to be ennobled by means of self-control, will-power and discipline. This nakshatra carries within it the possibility of idealistic or puritanical revolutions and social transformations, or else may simply signify an extremely flexible, unprincipled morality. The womb cleanses itself through menstruation, and Bharani rules similar processes, including such extreme manifestations of purity as personal holiness or social utopia. Inner resoluteness can allow people marked by the influence of Bharani to make up enormous handicaps in order to defeat some affliction, for example a serious illness.
However those born with the ascendant or the Moon in Bharani often have an inclination to jealousy, or else they themselves are the objects of tiresome jealousy on the part of others. Being a symbol of birth, Bharani indicates support in life, especially maternal love and help, and rules food and hospitality. As a significator of development, it governs growth, mass, volume and large quantities; but, since its symbol is the womb, it also signifies limitation and constraint. New life developing inside the womb is closely connected with the wider system ensuring its growth. Bharani, according to its position in the horoscope, or the position of planets within it, rules both subordinates and those lower in rank, and people who are highly placed and invested with power. It also signifies the strain and injuries that often accompany childbirth, and sometimes bodily damage below the waist. Every birth is a death, and every death a birth; these two forces are paradoxically both complementary and antagonistic, just as the nakshatra itself and its deity Yama (death). When birth and death complement each other, then the result is calm and progressive changes; but when antagonism shows through in their interaction, then the outcome becomes destructive wars and revolutions.

The key concept of the nakshatra Bharani
Bharani is the birth of the new, struggle, hidden events, difficulties.
The essence and mode of action of Bharani can be described in one word — extremes. It swings between puritanism and bohemianism, naivety and wisdom, maturity and infantilism, life and death. Bharani is the most «thirsting» nakshatra. Its representatives more often act instinctively than for some reason, they want to try out everything that surrounds them, studying things, people and places with childlike spontaneity. This same childlikeness, so useful for research and learning, can turn into unheard-of cruelty. The reason for this is a lack of responsibility for their actions.
The emotions and desires of Bharani personalities are usually so strong that only a few manage to suppress or quieten them. Those who are at a high level of development direct their colossal energy towards positive and useful pursuits. The less developed are like moths, darting chaotically from one little flame to another. In the modern chaotic epoch it is very difficult to unfold the potential of Bharani correctly.
A need for creativity is inherent in this nakshatra. For women it is characteristic to realise it in the birth of children. Men create on other levels.
In Bharani an interaction of the masculine and feminine principles takes place, which makes it one of the most sexual nakshatras. Passionate and prone to falling in love, it personifies nature itself, creating attraction between opposites. Then again, the developed type of Bharani natives understands that this attraction has far more in common with love, harmony and conscious union than with physiology.
Usually Bharani natives are energetic, full of enthusiasm and thirsting for adventure. They can attain their goal only under the constant guidance of someone more mature and wise. People born under this nakshatra are often pioneers in their field. They are not afraid of difficulties, strive to win a leading position in any group, possess a strong character and are able to withstand the vicissitudes of fate. They may look serene, even if they are tormenting themselves within. Because of their non-acceptance of other people's decisions and views they are often deprived of support from those around them. They are very egocentric, intolerant of those with whose point of view they do not agree.
Bharani endows a person with heightened sensitivity. They note the slightest manifestations of kindness and care, but at the same time forgive offences with difficulty, are often restless, impatient, cannot bear things and people that do not correspond to their ideals, and live in their own world, striving to build a paradise on earth.
Taking everything to extremes is the chief shortcoming of Bharani. If they engage in yoga, they become severe ascetics, and if they give themselves up to sexual delights, to which they are very disposed, then in this too they know no measure.
This is a star that teaches self-restraint, control, discipline. The nakshatra is excellently suited to meditation. In life a person with a vividly expressed Bharani may lose certain significant things, in order to create the illusoriness of matter in this world. People with a strong Moon are able to survive crises in their life and to create something new and positive out of the crises. If the Moon is weak, then the person may follow the lead of their mind, and there is a probability of despondency. Such qualities as impatience, resentment, judging other people, insolence, arrogance, extremeness in actions, secretiveness may be inherent in people with this nakshatra. Bharani in the 1st house can give pride, strength, few children, a long life. If Venus and Mars are strong — this can assist prosperity.
General characteristics of people born under the influence of Bharani
Bharani men
Bharani men most often have average height. On the face bright eyes and a broad forehead attract attention, and, when smiling, they show beautiful healthy teeth. A reddish complexion is possible. If the owner of the horoscope was born at midday — then their height will be very tall.
Men born under the influence of Bharani are open-hearted; they say openly what they think, without caring how those around them take it, and therefore they are often disliked. They are honest, and never go against their conscience. They often quarrel over trifles with close people; they lack tact and are haughty. They usually receive a good education. They possess the qualities of a leader and are inclined to rivalry. Their life is full of ups and downs. They love sport, cars, and have commercial abilities. They can become good surgeons or judges. Frequent changes in life lead to an absence of long bad and good periods; success and happiness most often come to Bharani men after 33 years, and positive changes in life are observed.
They usually marry at about 27 years. They have an attractive spouse, who is moreover an excellent housekeeper. Diseases of the brain, headaches, fevers or epilepsy are possible. There is danger from water.
Birth in the first or second quarters of Bharani speaks of danger for the father.
Bharani women
In the appearance of Bharani women the main thing is a beautiful figure. They are modest and attractive. Independent. Stubbornness and independence do not allow them to accept other people's advice, and self-confidence gives them the ability to provide themselves with everything necessary. They themselves bring dreams and ideas to life, and seek and find ways to carry out personally what they have conceived. These abilities lead to success in professional activity.
They respect elders and parents. In the family they are leaders. They submit only to a strong man whom they admire; others they suppress. If the partner is weaker, then the Bharani woman strives to take up the leading position. Since these women are a little aggressive, the husband must be patient and indulgent.
They usually possess robust health.
Birth in the first and second quarters speaks of danger for the mother.
The padas (quarters) of the nakshatra Bharani
The 1st pada of the nakshatra Bharani (13° 20′ — 16° 40′ of Aries) falls into the navamsha of Leo, ruled by the Sun. It gives an emphasis on creativity and self-absorption — planets placed in it may concentrate all attention on themselves. The enthusiasm and will inherent in the pada can be directed towards attaining positive goals, if the native is so disposed. Strongest in this quarter are the Sun, Mars and Jupiter.
The 2nd pada of the nakshatra Bharani (16° 40′ — 20° 00′ of Aries) falls into the navamsha of Virgo, ruled by Mercury. The chief manifestation of this pada is a spirit of service and a certain organisation. Mercury, Mars and Rahu give good results.
The 3rd pada of the nakshatra Bharani (20° 00′ — 23° 20′ of Aries) falls into the navamsha of Libra, ruled by Venus. It is characterised by an ability to harmonise opposites, and also does not accept restrictions in sex and relationships, which, depending on the level of development of the soul, may manifest in both a positive and a negative key. Since the third pada is a pushkara-navamsha, this assists the fulfilment of the native's desires. Mercury, Venus and Rahu are best suited to using the energies of this pada.
The 4th pada of the nakshatra Bharani (23° 20′ — 26° 40′ of Aries) falls into the navamsha of Scorpio, ruled by Mars. Its energy is extreme in every sense of the word. Planets here have an unbridled character. The Sun, Mars and Ketu are strong, but do not always give favourable results. Only Jupiter and Venus help the native to use the potential of the pada not to their own harm, but wisely.

Those who are born in the nakshatra Bharani, that is, who have the Moon in this nakshatra, are not recommended to engage in any important affairs when the Moon is passing through Rohini, Pushya, Ashlesha, Ardra or Jyeshtha, and it is better to avoid people born in these nakshatras.
The ruling planet of the nakshatra Bharani
Bharani experiences the influence of two planets — Mars (since it is placed in the constellation of Aries) and Venus. The latter is the chief ruler of the nakshatra.
Venus is closely connected with life and renewals. Mars, through owning the sign of Scorpio — with death. Thus the pair Venus-Mars symbolises the universal cyclical process of birth and destruction on all levels of being. First of all on the biological level, since the said planets are responsible for the relations of the sexes.
A conjunction of Mars and Venus in the natal chart creates an energy similar to the energy of Bharani. In this nakshatra Saturn reaches the lowest point of debilitation. Bharani is the warming space of creativity and fertility, whereas Saturn is the cold planet of obstacles and delays. It is obvious that it is extremely difficult for them to get along. Other planets are quite comfortable in Bharani provided that Venus is favourably placed in the horoscope.

and «Nakshatras. Life under a Lucky Star» (R. Blekt)
The nakshatra Bharani is ruled by Venus and Mars (Mars as the ruler of the sign Aries) simultaneously, which already gives a certain colouring, a certain mood to the nakshatra itself, and, consequently, this is transmitted to the character, the psyche, the emotional structure of the person who was born under this star. The symbol of the combination of Mars and Venus is unusual – this is a combination of passion, a combination of the sexual energy of man and woman, in essence, and the symbol of this star, of this nakshatra Bharani, is unusual too. Its symbol is the female reproductive organ, the female genitals — as a symbol of reproduction, as a symbol of birth.
This star is often called the star of limitation, the star of decisions, and its very name indicates that in one way or another the character of the nature of this star reflects the worldly desires of a person and those illusions in which they dwell because of their desires. Because of the combination of Venus and Mars this star gives a strong sexual attraction, if in one way or another it is manifested in a person's chart. Also Bharani is translated as «she who carries», that is, to carry a certain burden, to make some serious effort, which indicates the person's need for patience, hard labour and a certain self-discipline.

The animal symbol or totem of Bharani and, consequently, of the people who were born under this star is taken to be the elephant, which symbolises the ability to carry a heavy load which falls on the shoulders of a person in society, a heavy load connected with the state of affairs in society; therefore very often people who are public activists, people who campaign for well-being in society, who try to solve the problems of the masses, the problems of various strata of the population and so on, often have a quite vividly manifested star Bharani in their horoscope. «Manifested» means that the Moon is in it, or the rising sign, or the Sun, or some significant planet is in this constellation, a strong planet, a planet ruling the first sign, for example. All this should be considered signs of the manifestation, of the vividness of the nakshatra in a person's destiny.
This nakshatra is connected with the deity of death Yamaraj, who may be considered as it were the chief manager of such a difficult transformation in the life of every person and of all living beings as death. According to the Vedic conception he is a representative of Lord Shiva.
«Yama» is translated as «god of death». «Yama» is translated as «the binding one» and this term is also connected with various Vedic practices, such as, for example, the control of breathing, the control of the daily regimen, the control of nutrition and so on — that is, certain prescriptions. Yama leads the soul on the astral plane, where the soul experiences certain results of its deeds performed in this life, naturally after its end, and prepares it for its further incarnation.

Thus, in this way, Yamaraj — the king of death — is the person responsible for seeing that all living beings duly and in good time perform sacrifices and are able to exercise a certain self-control, to impose certain disciplinary measures on themselves, that is, to perfect themselves. Therefore the quality of truthfulness, the quality of self-sacrifice and the understanding of one's duty are also connected with the nakshatra Bharani, with this star.
Spiritual depth and a capacity for Vedic practices are also under the rulership or sponsorship of the energy of this nakshatra.
In order to cope with this primordial energy of creation, reproduction, birth — this energy — a certain asceticism is of course needed. The main energy of this star, the central, key one, on account of which it lost all its other qualities, is — Apa Bharani Shakti, this kind of energy inherent in the star Bharani, which assists the purification and removal of everything, of all impurities. Apa Bharani Shakti means that a person has the possibility both of perfecting themselves, and, in the process of perfecting, of being purified of those negative qualities which they possess.
So too a person's role in society may often be connected precisely with performing rather dirty work of purification (the social sphere of purification), possibly with the execution of punitive functions — therefore Bharani people are often engaged in the military sphere, in the sphere of the police, the militia and other bodies connected with punishment, connected with the suppression of offences and so on.
Besides, this star (especially if the Sun turns out to be in this star) — gives a person the possibility of leadership, of acquiring authority and might. Since the star Bharani is in the sign of Aries, by now many of you have followed this thread and connected together the facts that, being in the star Bharani, the Sun is in the constellation of Aries, that is, at the point of its exaltation; consequently through this star the Sun realises its most vivid qualities — that is, leadership, authority, might, power. This gives a person a very active nature, a nature, a motive to act in a sphere which has not yet been explored, a certain talent of the researcher, a spirit of pioneering – these qualities are also inherent in this star.
It is also connected with such a sphere of human life as material well-being. Let me remind you that Vedic knowledge considers only 4 spheres: these are — the performance of duties or the performance of religious duty, the second — is material maintenance, that is, the creation of the necessary material goods so that one can perform one's duty, then the satisfaction of one's desires — Kama, and Moksha — the fourth kind of activity — the striving for liberation, the striving away from the sufferings of material existence.
The nakshatra Bharani is responsible for the category Artha — prosperity, material prosperity, and therefore the Sun, when it turns out to be in this star in a person's chart, — can practically bring the person fame, success, renown, material well-being.
The shadow side of Artha (the star also has its negative sides) — is the constant sensation, the presence in a person's consciousness, that nothing happens in their life without struggle, that is, a sensation of constant struggle and suffering may be present in a person's consciousness from their very birth, as an inalienable attribute of the influence of the nakshatra Bharani.
As has already been said, this star is called the star of rejection or the star of renunciation. It belongs to the category of ugra. The stars are divided into several categories, which describe their character more precisely. The category ugra is translated as «severe» or even in some cases «ferocious». And this category of stars is often connected with imprisonment or other forms of restriction and isolation, and therefore the result of all these influences taken together may be a nature which is restless, irritable and patient. A person may be inclined to moralising, may be inclined to draw hasty conclusions or to condemn people and to take everything to extremes.
Arrogance, haughtiness and malevolence towards people may also be a result of the influence of this star, if the person does not purify their nature with the help of spiritual knowledge. Also an inclination to abuse sexual energies, an inclination to well-known debaucheries. Idleness, narcissism may also be negative manifestations of this star.
With regard to career these people are suited to any kind of work; they possess the qualities of patience and the ability to endure. They may be especially successful in administrative work, in business, sport, in music, they may be successful in the field of dissemination in the sphere of art, in the popularisation of art, in the trade in cars, or in any interaction with motor vehicles and cars, or in the restaurant business — all these are spheres in which people born under the influence of the nakshatra Bharani may be most effective.
Also these people make successful surgeons or judges — that is, they are quite successful in jurisprudence [Yamaraj]. Besides, if a person born under the star Bharani turns out to be involved, justly or unjustly, in court proceedings, then they withstand any lawsuits and any claims with honour, very worthily and with great self-possession.
In practice, speaking of the sphere of employment of both men and women born under the nakshatra Bharani, or studying the horoscopes of well-known great people, one can see a large number of people engaged in publishing activity who have the Moon or other important aspects of the horoscope in this star. Writers, people engaged in the film industry, engaged in the occult sciences, psychotherapists, hypnotists, astrologers, psychologists, people who act as imprinters in the sphere of entertainment, in show business, successful in business as such, consultants in the sphere of finance, lawyers, and also people who act as contractors in construction.

Yamaraj
Samajna, the wife of Vivasvat, the sun god, gave birth to the Manu named Shraddhadeva, and also to the twins Yamaraj and the river Yamuna.
Yamaraj is one of the mahajanas, the twelve personalities authorised to be the pillars of human civilisation. These twelve include Brahma, Narada, Lord Shiva, the Kumaras, Manu, Lord Kapila, Bhishma, Prahlada, Janaka, Bali and Shukadeva Goswami (Vaisaki).
Yamaraj is also «dharma-vit», a knower of dharma. He is called Dharmarajam, since he knows how to punish people in accordance with religious principles. He is also called Antaka and Mrityu.
Yamaraj or Dharmaraj, being the lord of the kingdoms of the dead, is obliged to judge the living beings who have sinned. Accordingly, deep knowledge in matters of jurisprudence is expected of Yamaraj.
Yamaraj, the Lord of the pitris (ancestors) resides in Pitriloka with his personal associates, the yamadutas. Under his charge is the southern or lower part of the universe, called Patala. The abode of Yamaraj, Samyamani, is located to the south of Mount Sumeru. It is said that at the entrance to the «underground» world of Yamaraj (sometimes he is also identified with Pluto) flows the river Vaitarani. Another name for the abode of Yamaraj is Yamasadana.
The son of Dharmaraj Yamaraj was Maharaja Yudhishthira. The mother of Yudhishthira, Kunti, possessed the ability to summon any demigod. She received such a blessing from the sage Durvasa. Accordingly, Maharaja Yudhishthira was born of Dharmaraj, Arjuna – of Indra, and Bhima – of Varuna.
Maharaja Marutta, a great devotee of Yamaraj, was a mighty emperor. He ruled Bharata long before Maharaja Yudhishthira.
At the request of Lord Brahma, Prajapati Daksha, also known as Prachetasa, begot sixty daughters in the womb of his wife Asikni. All the daughters loved their father very much. Ten of them were given to Dharmaraj (Yamaraj). They were named Bhanu, Lamba, Kakud, Yami, Vishva, Sadhya, Marutvati, Vasu, Muhurta and Sankalpa.
Yamaraj carries a sceptre known as the Yama-danda. Before reaching the abode of Yamaraj, the living being meets Jara, old age, the sister of Yamaraj. A person who performs sinful deeds becomes the victim of Yavana-raja (Yamaraj) and his sister.
Usually Yamaraj, since he is formidable and severe, is depicted as black in colour. On the one hand, this is quite appropriate; on the other – Yamaraj is not only a judge, but also a mahajana-Vaishnava. Therefore he is handsome and fair-faced.
Since Yamaraj is a great devotee of the Supreme Lord, other pure devotees invite him to their assemblies. Thus, the great sages headed by Shaunaka invited Yamaraj to take part in the sacrificial ceremony at Naimisharanya.
The servant of Yamaraj is called Yavana. When Yamaraj, the yamadutas and Yavana lead a living being to the place of judgement, then life itself, the vital air and the desires accompany the person.
When the vital air leaves the body, then the clot of matter consisting of five elements – earth, water, air, fire and ether – disintegrates into its components. Then the living being finds itself in the court of Yamaraj, and he decides what body it should receive in the future.
This process is not known to modern Western science. The living being is responsible for the deeds performed during its life, and after death it comes to the world of Yamaraj, where it is decided what its next body will be. Although the gross material body disintegrates, the living being and its desires, and also the accumulated consequences of its past activity, are preserved.
An incarnation of Yamaraj was Vidura. He was begotten by Vyasadeva in the womb of the maidservant Ambika, the mother of Maharaja Pandu. In his time Manduka Muni cursed Yamaraj to be born a shudra, as a result of which he was born as Vidura, a shudra, the brother of Dhritarashtra and Maharaja Pandu.
However Bhishmadeva, the eldest in the Kuru dynasty, made no distinction between Vidura and his other nephews. In due course Vidura married a girl who was also born of a brahmana and a shudrani.
Although Vidura did not inherit the property of his father (the brother of Bhishmadeva), Dhritarashtra, Vidura's elder brother, nevertheless gave him sufficient property. Vidura was very attached to his elder brother and constantly tried to guide him onto the true path. During the fratricidal war at Kurukshetra Vidura repeatedly asked his elder brother to act justly with the sons of Pandu, however Duryodhana did not like his uncle's interference, and therefore he insulted Vidura. This incident resulted in Vidura, on the advice of Maitreya, leaving home and becoming a pilgrim.
When Yamaraj left Yamaloka in order to become Vidura, his post was taken by Aryama, one of the numerous sons of Kashyapa and Aditi. There are twelve Adityas, the sons of Aditi. Aryama is one of them. He performed the duties of Yamaraj during the time when for a hundred years Yamaraj lived on earth in the form of Vidura.
In modern astronomy, Bharani is comprised of three stars in the constellation of Aries: 35-Arietes, 39-Arietes, and 41-Arietes. Bharani is an extremely hot star, containing a tremendous amount of fire energy. In the Vedic tradition, there are several qualities of the fire element, and Bharani is the sacred quality that is initially present when fire is first ignited. Those born under this star have the potential to rule due to their fire-burning energy. Bharani is extreme in nature, exploring any direction it chooses, either puritanical or sinful. Therefore, those born under this star oscillate between opposite ends of the spectrums. Bharani is the foundation of Venusian energy among the nakshatras, giving it tremendous occult knowledge. The main symbol for this star is the yoni or female sexual organs, which signify creativity, sexuality and the cycle of birth and death. Just like the womb, Bharani is a sacred place of nurturing and growth with the power to quickly manifest. Bharani natives have a strong character and can withstand the transformations of life. Their naive exuberance enables them to learn and gather information, but it may distract them from finishing what they begin. This nakshatra is one of the most enthusiastic and eager, yet can be challenging to understand.

Sacred Energy Vortex: Nalladai Sri Agneeswarar Temple
The temple in India that resonates with the Bharani star is located in a village called Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu, India. It is called as «Sri Agneeswarar» temple referring to a form of Lord Shiva. «Sri» is a mantra giving respect and good fortune and «Agneeswarar» means Lord of fire. People born under the Bharani star should visit this sacred energy vortex during their lifetime.
Incredible blessings come to those people born under Bharani who perform a fire ritual at the Bharani energy vortex of Nalladai Sri Agneeswarar Temple. The Siddhas say that if the fire ritual is conducted without the assistance of matchstick, but started instead with pure pipal wood, the person would be able to gain the divine blessings. This type of fire is known as Bharani Arani as it originates from the world of the Fire God.
Saint Mirugandu conducted a fire ritual on Bharani star day and formed this sacred fire of Bharani Arani. The ashes of this fire, along with the silk clothes of the King were presented to Sri Agneeswarar at this sacred shrine. It is said that if a fire ritual is performed on Bharani star day, with the grace of the guru, benefic effects will manifest a thousand fold. This will invoke the divine blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.
People born under all stars would gain the maximum benefits of wealth and power by conducting a fire ritual here on the Bharani star day, but Bharani natives in particular, could ignite their capacity to rule.
Bharani natives, your incense is made with the herb Aonla/aamla as prescribed by the Vedas.
