A native with Mercury in the 7th house is an intelligent, spiritual person, loved by other people, able to speak convincingly. These people dress well, marry early and have at least a small success in business. They repeatedly change their work or their marriage partners. Mercury in the seventh house: This is the house of partners, business, agreements, diplomacy. Mercury in this house creates good lawyers, businessmen, advisers and diplomats. If Mercury is undamaged, it will give an early marriage with an intelligent, beautiful, slim, young person. In marriage they will find a partner who talks and argues a great deal. If Mercury is favourably placed, the partner's speech will be pragmatic, and it is worth listening to. These people have a good command of the tactics of how to behave with partners. If Mercury is damaged, the person may become a cunning, insidious deceiver, and in marriage he will have many arguments and disagreements. A damaged Mercury (especially with Mars or Venus) gives an interest in other young women. Mars in the 7th house gives poor health to the partner. When Mars and Mercury are together, the marriage union may suffer even more strongly.

Mercury in the 7th house — a youthful appearance. The partner is youthful. Intellectual conversations. In intimate relations there may be problems, because Mercury is an asexual, intellectual planet. More talk than closeness.
The placement of planets in certain houses leads to their strong weakening. They lose their vitality and, consequently, become incapable of manifesting their functional and natural characteristics. Such a position is known as the Marana Avastha of a planet, which in literal translation means “a state similar to death”. The Marana Avastha for Mercury is the 7th house. The planets themselves, being so placed, become Marana Karakas, or significators of death, and bring great devastation into the native's life. When such a planet is in conjunction with a malefic or hostile planet, and/or is aspected by it, or is in the sign of its fall, it will cause great grief. The dasha of the sign in which the Marana Karaka is placed will bring devastation into the native's life, which will be the consequence of a rupture of the relationships denoted by the natural, the functional, or both together, significations of that planet.

A person who has Mercury in the 7th house of the horoscope will have happiness from the mother, will own horses and other material goods. He will be religious and have a broad outlook. World fame and the honour of the government will come to the master of the horoscope. If Mercury in the 7th house is joined with benefic planets, the owner of the horoscope will have a palanquin and will get a good wife. He will be attached to non-vegetarian food. If the lord of the 7th house is strong, the owner of the horoscope will have one marriage. In the case of the weakness of the lord of the 7th house or of its placement in a dusthana, or in cases of a conjunction with Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu, the loss of the wife awaits the owner of the horoscope. In a woman's horoscope such a situation speaks of widowhood, and may also give leprosy or an ugly appearance.
Comments:
The 7th house by itself does not indicate the mother and the means of transport, but being the fourth with respect to the 4th house, it reveals these characteristics too. According to the theory of “Bhavad-bhavam” — “a house from a house”, on which the whole of Vedic astrology is built, the additional characteristics of a house are calculated from the number of the house.
An undamaged Mercury reveals the good characteristics of the 7th house, which is what is described in the sutras. As a consequence of the influence upon the 1st house the changeable nature of Mercury will be reflected in the person's character too: he will often change his interests, his work, his attachments, and will travel a great deal. A strong lord of the 7th house will make the owner of the horoscope more collected and concentrated. In the 7th house Mercury is in a kendra from the lagna, and its placement in Gemini or Virgo, with Sagittarius and Pisces rising respectively, will create bhadra yoga, which has already been mentioned in this chapter. If Mercury is joined with Jupiter or Venus in the 6th, 7th or 8th houses, a very beneficial yoga is formed, known as lagnadhi yoga, which gives a high governmental post, a good, virtuous character,
a happy marriage, a long life and the absence of enemies.
The horoscope of Dr. B. V. Raman, the outstanding astrologer of India, is a beautiful example illustrating world fame, a broad outlook and religiousness. Besides, the placement of Mercury in a kendra is an aspect of a good astrologer, and if in addition the lord of the 2nd house turns out to be strong — “the owner of the horoscope will become an outstanding astrologer”.
Other opinions concerning Mercury in the 7th house:
“Brihat Jataka” — a person with such a placement of Mercury in the horoscope will possess knowledge of the law of the country.
“Phaladipika” — wisdom, fame, wealth from the wife.
“Saravali” — the wife of the owner of the horoscope will be intelligent, beautiful, rich, but quarrelsome, and he himself will become a respected personality.
“Chamatkar Chintamani” — the owner of the horoscope will be handsome, generous, rich, but cowardly. He will be able to give happiness to his wife.

The results of the placement of Mercury (Buddha) in the 7th house
With the position of Buddha in the 7th Bhava the person has a good character, he is rich, speaks the truth, and is endowed with a wife, a son and gold.
Comments: If Buddha, placed in the 7th Bhava [house], receives benefic influences, then the person has many friends. In his youth he enters into deep and close relations, especially with people of the opposite sex. From this Bhava Buddha gives a full aspect on the Bhava of the Lagna, thanks to which the person definitely possesses charm, youthful habits and manners, attractiveness, and his wife has an exceptional radiance of the face. The majority of learned authors on Jyotish speak of such a result of Buddha in the 7th Bhava — quick ejaculation during sexual intercourse. If Mercury in the 7th house is in conjunction with Shani [Saturn] and Shukra [Venus], then there is a great probability that the person will be impotent or that there will be exceedingly few spermatozoa in his semen. Buddha in the 7th Bhava is not favourable for the birth of healthy and strong offspring. If the person engages in commerce (business), then he is very skilful in this activity.
