Saturn in the 8th house
The results given by Saturn in the eighth house of the horoscope
Saturn in the 8th house: This indicates a person living apart from his child, having eye diseases, an attachment to yogic kinds of knowledge and having a reputation as a master in his work. There is a tendency towards lying or treachery. The length of life may be good, if Saturn is not placed in the 8th house in the sign of Aries. Illnesses of the excretory system may be discovered. This person may also have an unsociable character. (Tom Hopke)
Saturn in the eighth house: The worst place for Saturn. Here Saturn gives failures, the collapse of plans, humiliation, quarrels, disgrace, financial difficulties. The person has low self-esteem; Saturn gives him fears and phobias. The person has to go through hard trials. Tormenting illnesses arise for them, but Saturn in this house does not give an early death. Saturn gives longevity, but it makes one suffer and be tormented physically and psychologically. The person's eyesight deteriorates, illnesses of the joints, the large intestine, the back arise. People may get into accidents and receive injuries.
The 8th house shows the wealth, the savings of the spouse. The spouse will have financial difficulties. One should not count greatly on his help. He may also not receive the expected share from the division of property in a divorce. Saturn in the 8th house does not give family happiness and causes separation/divorce. The person may not receive the inheritance that he expects. The person may be subjected to false accusations. Court cases are possible. A benefic Saturn under the aspect of Jupiter may not give hard results. Such people work in the field of the special services, mineral resources, taxation, insurance, alternative medicine. They have enormous intuition and mysterious abilities. They can sense people and heal by unconventional means. (Mahesh Dharmadasa)
Saturn (Shani) in the 8th house
Saturn in the 8th house: cruel, has no friends; lives long, but poorly, suffers from a chronic illness; illnesses of the stomach and of the reproductive organs are possible. Often changes his kind of activity, endures many trials in life. In a woman's chart such a position indicates an absence of romance and of colour in married life. If Rahu is in the 7th house, Saturn in the 8th, and Mars in the 6th, then the person will lose his spouse. With Saturn in the 8th or 12th house squandering, conflicts with relatives, and discord in the family take place.
Saturn, Mars, Rahu or Ketu in the 6th, 8th or 12th house in a watery sign (Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces) may lead to diabetes.
The placement in the 8th house is unfavourable for all planets except Mercury and Saturn. Mercury here gives well-being, and Saturn — a long life, but in other areas favourable effects should not be expected from them. (Shri Govind Swarup Agarwal)
“Bhrigu Sutra” 7.37-40
The owner of the horoscope will live to 75. He will be poor, will have intimacy with women of the lower castes and will earn his means of living by serving others. In the case of Saturn being in its own sign or in the sign of exaltation the length of life increases. If the lord of the 8th house is placed in the sign of his enemy or in the sign of debilitation, the owner of the horoscope will live a short life, will earn his means of subsistence with difficulty and, perhaps, will have to go without food at times.
Comments:
All malefic planets in the 8th house shorten the length of life of the owner of the horoscope, with the exception of Saturn, the ayush-karaka, the planet of longevity. Being the karaka of the 8th house and being placed in it, Saturn makes an exception to the theory of “Karaka-bhava-nashaya” and indicates a long life, forming arishta-bhangas or protective influences in the horoscope. In this connection it is appropriate to quote the following shloka from the “Bhavartha Ratnakara”: “Saturn in the 8th house speaks of a great length of life. But if the lord of the 8th house is joined with Ketu in the lagna, the life of the owner of the horoscope will be short”.
The remaining characteristics of the placement of Saturn in the 8th house are, in the main, negative. Influencing the 10th, 2nd and 5th houses from the 8th, Saturn speaks of sufficient mastery of the person, of poverty, eye diseases, a small number of children or difficulties with them, and also of an attachment to yogic knowledge.
Being the twelfth to the 9th house, an activated 8th house is associated with an atheistic cast of mind, an inclination towards lying and immoral behaviour (“intimacy with women of the lower castes”). According to dharma and the Vedic tradition, a man of a higher varna must not enter into relations with shudra women, since in that case unwanted progeny appears, and the man himself loses his high brahminical qualities. The “Garuda Purana”, the book about death, says: “A brahmin who has let a woman of easy behaviour into his bed descends to a lower level; having begotten progeny by a shudra woman, he immediately falls from the level of a brahmin”. By shudra women in our time should be understood women of a low level of consciousness and of dissolute behaviour.
In the medical aspect the 8th house represents the anus and the sexual organs, and the presence of Saturn in it may cause the corresponding illnesses.
Other opinions concerning Saturn in the 8th house:
“Brihat Jataka” — a small number of descendants and defects of eyesight.
“Phaladipika” — the owner of the horoscope will be untidy, immoral, poor, cruel. Sometimes he will experience a lack of food and may suffer from haemorrhoids.
“Saravali” — the owner of the horoscope will have illnesses of the anus, a short life and failures in his undertakings.
“Chamatkar Chintamani” — the loss of wealth and friends, sickliness, malevolence and unfriendliness.
Note: All the classical texts agree with the “Bhrigu Sutra” that the placement of Saturn in the 8th house is unfavourable.

The results of the placement of Saturn (Shani) in the 8th house
In the case of the position of Shani in the 8th Bhava the person will have a weak body, he will suffer from itching because of worms and the like, will be fearless, dissatisfied and sluggish (not energetic).
Comments: With the position of Shani [Saturn] in the 8th Bhava [house] the person often complains of constipation. There is also the danger of an illness of the sexual organs. His right eye is weak. The native may suffer from the loss of his initial capital invested in business. If Shani in this position does not receive the influence of any malefic Graha [planet], then the person often enjoys a long life.
