Rahu in the 4th house strongly attaches the person to his home town, country and house. Wherever he goes, he is drawn back to his homeland. They cannot bear moving. They do not even want to move to another district. They have closer relations with their mother than with their father. They always receive maternal support. The father does not play a noticeable role in their life. In past incarnations they were very busy with their career. In this life they have to allot more time to home and family. It is good for such people to engage in the field of buying, selling and renting real estate. Ketu in the 10th house does not give success in work and recognition in society. Ketu in the 10th house, Rahu in the 4th house: the karmic task
If the person has no particular ambitions concerning his social status and profession, this placement of the nodes is quite tolerable. Contentment with one's position is the key to solving the problems created by this placement of Rahu-Ketu.
The presence of Rahu in the 4th house indicates that such themes as the mother, domestic life, family, property, aesthetics, refined emotions, peace of mind possess primary importance for the person. Just as with a conjunction of Rahu with the Moon, this placement gives a strong attachment to the mother or to a figure playing the role of a mother.
Great help from the mother is also observed. The role of the father is considerably smaller, since he either dies in the native's youth or the native ignores him.
Usually such people do not like work connected with trips. They prefer to have a permanent place of residence, mainly in a village or a small town, where they spend the greater part of their life. They do not like big cities.
Rahu in the 4th favours such professions as trade in real estate, agriculture, driving transport, child psychology, writing for children, interior design, architecture, construction.
Ketu in the 10th house makes the person change profession repeatedly, but this does not give satisfaction with his work. For such a person it is more important to attain a state of inner peace and contentment than practical fruits in external activity. Sudden collapse and disappointment are inevitable if the native develops excessive ambitions in connection with the indications of the 10th house. Therefore such people need to learn to find harmony between emotions (the element of water) and practicality (the element of water). Any attempts to suppress their inner emotions for the sake of outward success will bring emptiness and sorrow into their life.

Life in slums and sexual relations with widows await the owner of the horoscope. But if Rahu or Ketu are joined with a benefic planet, he will be able to live in good houses. A person who has the shadow planets placed in the 10th house will be interested in poetry.
Other opinions concerning Rahu or Ketu in the 10th house:
“Phaladipika”: Ketu in the 10th house — the owner of the horoscope will commit impious deeds, but will become renowned for his boldness.
“Chamatkar Chintamani”: Ketu in the 10th house — sorrows and failures will befall the owner of the horoscope. From his father he will know no happiness. If Ketu is in Aries, Virgo or Scorpio, the master of the horoscope will defeat his enemies.
Note: Bhrigu Muni gives the same characteristics for the placement of Rahu and Ketu in various houses. His opinion is based on the fact that these planets are always in the seventh house from each other and both exert an influence on the house. However the other classical texts, apart from the “Brihat Jataka” and the “Saravali”, which do not describe the results of the placement of the shadow planets in the houses of the horoscope, hold a different opinion.
We should like to add several important remarks concerning the placement of Rahu and Ketu in the houses of the horoscope. Concerning the characteristics of these planets there are three main opinions: 1) they act as the lord of the sign that they occupy, 2) their nature is like that of Mars and Saturn, and also 3) the view of Kalidasa given below. An experienced astrologer intuitively understands what influences the shadow planets conduct when he analyses a horoscope or draws up forecasts.
Relying on the famous classical work of Kalidasa, the “Uttara Kalamrita”, it may be said that, being shadow planets, these planets are not regarded as the lords of any houses or signs. If Rahu and Ketu are in conjunction (in the same sign) with a planet, then they take on its qualities, become conductors of its energy, and in their periods, or bhuktis, act like that planet. When the shadow planets do not enter into a conjunction — they give the results of the planet aspecting them. And only when Rahu and Ketu are neither joined nor aspected by planets do they act as the lord of the sign in which they are placed.
If one of the two nodes and the lord of a triad are placed in conjunction in the 9th or 10th houses or if one of them is in the 9th, and the other in the 10th, a favourable yoga is formed, which will bring prosperity to the owner of the horoscope. If at the same time a malefic planet enters into a conjunction with or aspects one of the shadow planets, then the bhukti [sub-period] of the yoga-karaka will prove unfavourable.
And a last remark. Rahu and Ketu become beneficial when they occupy the positions of a triad or of a kendra from the lagna. The shadow planets also prove beneficial when they are joined with the lords of a house of a triad or of a quadrant. But if at the same time the lord of the 9th house also owns the 8th (in the case of Gemini rising), or the 12th (in the case of Libra rising), and also if the lords of the 9th or 10th houses are joined with the lords of the 8th and 12th houses, the beneficial results of the yoga are lost.

The results of the placement of Ketu in the 10th house
If Ketu is placed in the 10th Bhava, then the person will be deprived of happiness from his father, but will destroy his enemies, despite the fact that he himself is not fortunate. His means of transport wears out and grows old, and he himself suffers from illnesses of Vata (Wind). If Rahu in the 10th Bhava is in the Rashi of Kanya [Virgo], then the person is happy and very rich.
Comments: Ketu in the 10th Bhava [house] will cause sudden physical suffering to the person's father. The person himself will suffer physically because of a ride on a horse. With the placement of Ketu in the 10th house in the Rashi of Mesha [Aries], Vrishabha [Taurus], Kanya [Virgo] or Vrishchika [Scorpio] the person will receive profit — such is the opinion of the learned authors.
