Nakshatra Rohini
The nakshatra Rohini (4th of the 27 nakshatras, 10° 00′ — 23° 20′ of Taurus). The symbol of Rohini is a cart, and its deity is the god Brahma, the creator. Since Brahma rules creation and the beginnings of things, especially of the material universe, Rohini has power over sowing and planting, germination and growth. Since the cart of Rohini is drawn by oxen, horned cattle and means of transport also come under the rulership of this nakshatra. Being very strongly oriented towards everything connected with growth, it is implicitly connected with increase, rise, or with everything raised to a great height, and also with all kinds of advancement and development. Rohini imperceptibly but confidently avoids obstacles and clears its path of all barriers, but its attachment to the material plane all the same leaves a loophole for vulgarity.
«The Moon in Rohini is observed in those who are truthful, not stingy, cleanly, honey-tongued, firm in character, comely in appearance» (Varahamihira).
In one ancient Indian myth Rohini — the reddish star Aldebaran in the constellation of Taurus — is presented as the favourite wife of the Moon among his 27 nakshatra-wives. The reasons for such favour are her beauty, charm and education, her knowledge of painting and music, her refinement in the art of love. The word «Rohini» etymologically goes back to a Sanskrit term meaning the colour red, which symbolises passion and sensuality and is the colour of her main star. All the properties and objects ascribed to the feminine principle, including bodily beauty, love, romances, perfumes, scents, fragrances, — are connected with Rohini.
When the Moon or Venus are placed in this nakshatra, their influence increases, even if they are afflicted in some way. Whereas an ascendant or Moon located in Rohini often indicates a personality of a critical cast, with a fault-finding character, weak health and an attraction to the opposite sex, people in whose charts the Moon or Venus are in Rohini together with the lagna often possess irresistible charm, beauty and attractiveness, and also abilities in the arts. The best-known example of such a situation is Lord Krishna, of whom it is known that he was born with rising Taurus and with the Moon in the 1st house in Rohini. The position of the Moon in Rohini in the lagna fully reflects the charming character of Krishna, who plays the flute masterfully and has conquered all hearts with his beauty and charm. Similar results may take place if the Moon or Venus are well placed in Rohini, which rules the lagna. This principle of interpreting the horoscope we may extend to relatives as well. If the Moon and/or Venus are in the 4th house in Rohini, then the native may have a charming, fashionable and/or bohemian mother. And one whose Moon, being the lord of the 7th house, is placed in Rohini in the 5th house, may have a spouse with analogous traits and so on.
Physiology and diseases: the shins, the calves, the ankles, the forehead.
Professions, people and places of habitation: worthy, capable personalities. Agriculture and adjacent branches. Those who grow, produce and process raw materials for foodstuffs. Herbalists. The industry of fashion, beauty, pleasures and leisure. The automobile and oil industries. Bars, restaurants and hotels. Sellers of fish and other seafood. The maritime and shipbuilding branches.
The point is that it will be better if the ascendant and a benevolent feminine planet are in this nakshatra together, rather than separately. (Translator's note.)
That is, the lagna is in Rohini. (Translator's note.)
Rohini (Skt.: रोहिणी) is represented in the sky by a cluster of stars next to a very bright pale pink star in the constellation of Taurus. This star is known in modern astronomy as Aldebaran.
The name of the nakshatra is translated as «reddish» or «growing».

The key concept of the nakshatra Rohini
A striving for growth, for determining the social position of oneself and of others.
The Vedic seers considered Rohini a conductor of cosmic energy, using which one can achieve the fulfilment of any desires, since Rohini acts beyond the bounds of the rational logical mind.
Rohini is a very fertile nakshatra, supporting any growth. It has a relation to creating what is necessary for civilised life. In its highest manifestation Rohini is interested in using only natural materials, while in its lowest it indulges the production of everything artificial. Developed Rohini personalities are true defenders of the environment; the less developed promote harmful products, which is what happens, for example, in the cosmetics industry.
Those born under the nakshatra Rohini are distinguished by large clear eyes, a thick lower lip and a smiling face, an expressive voice and gesticulation. They are calm, stable, down-to-earth and balanced. Their firmness and resoluteness is often perceived as stubbornness. They speak smoothly, have noble, seductive manners, and inspire trust in those around them. They can use charm in order to settle matters in their own favour.
Rohini helps the materialisation of thoughts and desires, which makes it artistic. Rohini is the true patron of the arts, and therefore the level of society's understanding of art at any moment in time is determined by the level at which Rohini works. Today, when artistic standards have declined and taken on frankly vile forms, it is easy to notice that in the majority of the world's population Rohini acts through its base aspect.
Rohini personalities are incredibly persistent and purposeful, and calm down only when what is desired has been attained. Family values, as a rule, mean much to them, and they render support to those who enter their close circle of association. Those who do not belong to this circle will not be able to hold Rohini's attention for long.
Despite the immovability of their nature, they love to flit among people when it comes to social and collective interactions. In its lowest manifestation Rohini makes people cold-blooded and courteous opportunists, who deftly obtain favour and financial support from others.
Usually Rohini personalities are very conservative, but at the same time open to new influences. The conservative part of their nature is vividly manifested in their attitude to the preservation of their body. Those who are under the strong influence of Rohini, as a rule, watch their health carefully and live to a ripe old age. In young Rohini natives a rejection of the process of growing up and a fear of death may manifest.
Rohini is one of the nakshatras most oriented towards obtaining pleasures — it believes that in life one must try everything.
Rohini gives patronage to the obtaining of experience through spiritual preceptors. By means of this nakshatra a person becomes aware of the fruits of their actions.
Rohini is considered a balanced nakshatra. Those who are involved in any productive activity understand the importance of balance for attaining what is desired. Rohini is methodical and balanced. However in its negative aspect it compels one to go through life with as few adventures as possible, it may be ultra-conservative, reluctant to accept anything new capable of enriching its wisdom and experience. The positive aspect of Rohini is manifested in the fact that it knows how to remain on its destined path in life without unnecessary effort.
And since Rohini signifies growth, then in this nakshatra a high level of enjoyment, attractiveness, and the acquisition of wealth may manifest. There will be excellent fertility, good health, honesty. At times stubbornness arises and the themes of seduction by worldly pleasures.
«The Moon in Rohini gives truthfulness, an absence of desire for another's property, cleanliness, sweet speech, firm views and a beautiful appearance» (Varahamihira).
General characteristics of people born under the influence of Rohini
Rohini men
Short stature, a beautiful build, despite a tendency to stoutness, a captivating gaze — such is the Rohini man.
A sense of justice is inherent in them, a desire to defend the truth; they are trusting and noble. For the sake of love they are capable of sacrifice. They are often guided not by the mind but by the heart, live for the day and change their goals under the influence of emotions. When angry, they lose touch with reality. This may be one of the causes of a restless family life.
They can attain a high social position on account of success in business and public activity.
Usually Rohini men have cold relations with the father and a strong attachment to the mother and her relatives.
Problems with the genitourinary and circulatory systems are possible.
Rohini women
Rohini women are distinguished by beauty, a peculiarity of which is unusually white facial skin and expressive eyes.
They are soft-hearted, well brought up, practical, and know how to select clothes with taste. The lack of balance in their character is manifested in a combination of hot-temperedness and secretiveness. They can be successful in business connected with the food industry, or in the hotel business.
Rohini women are usually good housekeepers, happy wives and mothers. The only thing that can disturb relations in the family is their stubbornness. Magha men are more suited to them as partners than others.
On the whole they have good health. Colds of the throat and chest are characteristic; there may be swellings, irregular menstruation.
The padas (quarters) of the nakshatra Rohini
The 1st pada of the nakshatra Rohini (10° 00′ — 13° 20′ of Taurus) falls into the navamsha of Aries, ruled by Mars. Here the passions and the sensual nature are strong, self-indulgence and prodigality are manifested. Planets placed in this pada want lightning-fast material results. An exception in this respect are the Sun and Mars. In its highest manifestation the pada can make a person a spiritual warrior fighting against exploitation on Earth.
The 2nd pada of the nakshatra Rohini (13° 20′ — 16° 40′ of Taurus) falls into the navamsha of Taurus, ruled by Venus. This pada reflects the best of what the nakshatra symbolises — elegant manners, oratorical abilities, a love of music and of art in general. Planets here give abundance and the ability to obtain what is required, as if by magic. Success in the tourist business is possible, and also a frequent change of place of residence (especially in women). In this pada the Moon, Mercury, Venus and the Sun are strong.
The 3rd pada of the nakshatra Rohini (16° 40′ — 20° 00′ of Taurus) falls into the navamsha of Gemini, ruled by Mercury. It gives mathematical abilities, a powerful intellect, prudence, devotion, an inclination to charity. Here Mercury, Venus and Saturn are strong.
The 4th pada of the nakshatra Rohini (20° 00′ — 23° 20′ of Taurus) falls into the navamsha of Cancer, ruled by the Moon. It brings wealth, renown, and endows one with strong intuition. Planets placed in this quarter possess maternal qualities, but may also become ardently possessive. Best of all will act a well-placed Moon and Jupiter.
The ruling planet of the nakshatra Rohini
Two planets are connected with Rohini — the Moon and Venus. The chief ruler is the Moon. The Moon personifies the feminine principle in nature; Venus is associated with Shakti — the universal Divine energy. Thus Rohini represents an intermediary in the process of the material manifestation of Shakti.
The carefulness, elegance and beauty of forms, actions and manners inherent in the Moon, combined with the attractiveness, creative abilities and productivity of Venus, make Rohini one of the most fertile nakshatras. Just like Mother Earth, it provides for all. However today the generosity of Rohini is mercilessly exploited to gratify greed. This is the reason why a large part of the environment today is polluted, and the majority of women are troubled and unhappy.
A conjunction of the Moon and Venus in a chart gives an energy similar to the energy of Rohini. In this nakshatra the Moon, Mercury, Venus and Saturn are strong.

Physiology and diseases: the shins, the calves, the ankles; the forehead.

So, today we are speaking of the star Rohini. And it is located entirely and completely in the sign of Taurus. And besides, this is the star in which the Moon turns out to be in the position of mulatrikona. Rohini is translated as «the red star» and simply «the red one». Sometimes as «the red cow». Or one more name for Rohini is «the growing one». It is located next to the pale pink star Aldebaran, well known in astronomy.
This star Rohini has the symbol of an ox-cart. That is, a cart harnessed with oxen or simply a cart, the symbol of a cart. This is a star which has the nature of passion, that is passion, as it is also customary to say, rajasic by its nature. And it reflects, among everything else, an inclination or a need for travel and movement. This may be somewhat unexpected. You see what deeper layers we discover in astrological knowledge.
For example, you all know well that Taurus is a fixed sign. We have spoken of this with you and it is an earthy sign, and therefore the stability, the unshakeability of this sign, it would seem, must necessarily influence the Moon, since it is placed in it. But, if the Moon turns out to be in the star Rohini, then this makes the person's nature not so static. That is, a need for movement manifests through the influence of this star.
Rohini is also called the star of ascent. And this star gives a person the possibility of advancing in society and expanding their influence in society.
The ruling deity of the nakshatra is Prajapati (Brahma) or the Creator. That is, the term Prajapati denotes one who is the progenitor of all living beings or of a certain group of living beings.
And it is precisely the energy of growth, or Rohana shakti, that is the main attribute, the main energy of this star. And this energy Rohana-shakti assists or, as it were, ensures powerful growth and creative energy on all levels. It bestows such a blessing as fruitfulness. Therefore for those people who are engaged in agriculture, of course, it should be noted that nothing done with regard to the cultivation of plants, their planting and so on can pass unsuccessfully and without trace.
Prajapati is the great creator, who gives everyone the ability to obtain what they desire. Therefore this star, Rohini, as it were gives a person a certain experience, knowledge, and helps them to realise how important it is for a person to know what they actually want. This star is the awareness of one's desires.
Rohini embodies the cosmic, the phase of cosmic preparation, of the preliminary process in cosmic creation. This is not the preparation of cosmonauts that I meant. A certain stage, which takes place in the Universe in order to assist growth, development and creative potential. That is, since this star is the most beloved for the Moon, and the Moon represents our subtle body, the mind, it is precisely this star that gives the possibility of realising one of the basic potentials of the mind. That is the creative potential, the potential to create subtle forms.
Before we attain something or receive it in real life, we must necessarily form it on the subtle plane, in our mind. That is, we must create, as it is customary to say in esoteric circles, a thought-form. Now this thought-form, its strength depends on how favourably the person's Moon is placed, and if the Moon is in the star Rohini in the chart of birth or on the day when you are going to shape some of your desires, to direct them, to form them, to consolidate them, [to outline] them, to gather patience in waiting for the realisation of these desires, then the star gives its blessings. Since it strengthens and assists the development of those ideas which arise in a person's mind.
Therefore the only thing they need to watch is what ideas arise in their head and we watch this rarely, but once a month we could do it. On the day when the Moon enters the star Rohini. Therefore «beware of your desires», said one wise man. And first of all this saying relates to the star Rohini, which manifests its energy on the principle «as you sow, so shall you reap». And if you sow, then you will certainly reap, since besides all that it represents the energy of fertility.
The fulfilment of a person's worldly or material desires, artistic expression, self-expression, simply blossoms, unfolds in this star. Therefore there are many creative people. We shall speak with you of their professional inclinations.
Deep devotion to God is also one of the distinctive aspects of this star. It is said that the heavens descend to earth by means of the star Rohini. Therefore spiritual steadfastness and responsibility also manifest in this star, in its nature.
The totem or animal symbol of this star is the serpent, a symbol which reflects the spiritual might and wisdom which the star Rohini possesses.
Besides, the serpent, you know, personifies the sexual or psychic energy of a person, which is called Kundalini. And this is the very potential which allows us to attain goals and to realise our desires.
The shadow side of this star consists in the fact that people born under the star Rohini may become too deeply mired in materialism. That is, a person may begin to strive for luxury, for material comfort, without reckoning the price they have to pay for it, and not only a price on the material plane.
And as they say, a person may, as the biblical saying goes, run the risk of gaining the whole world but losing their eternal soul. Since Rohini is located in the head of the constellation of Taurus, a certain colouring as it were or a certain flavour of obsession is inherent in the nature of this star.
Obstinacy, stubbornness is one of the most painful sides of the shadow nature of this star. Since Taurus in itself, as I have already said and as you already know and remember from previous, long-past lessons, is a fixed sign. Therefore usually people who have the Moon in this sign are correlated with people who are quite stubborn or at the least persistent.
A quite hot temper. That is, with a certain measure of patience, and later, when patience snaps, the person acts implacably, unshakeably, breaking through. This may also be observed in people born under this star, let us say, under this nakshatra. And also these people have seriously to overcome such qualities as envy and possessiveness.
The star Rohini is interesting in that it represents one of the 60 daughters of the progenitor Daksha according to the Vedic chronicles. This is, let us say, the astronomical embodiment of specific personalities with a specific character. That is, of really existing, I would say, women, who possess the qualities inherent in these stars. And since these women, divine celestial women, have their descendants here on earth, then by virtue of an astrological-genetic effect the descendants, or those people who were born in these chains, in these dynasties, have certain qualities and experience these qualities in themselves in some, let us say, purely astrological way.
And so, 27 of the 60 daughters of Daksha Prajapati became the consorts, the wives of Chandra (the Moon). But among all of them there nevertheless appeared a kind of favourite of the god of the Moon (Chandra), and he began to give special preference to, was especially disposed towards, by virtue of her excellent qualities, thanks to the qualities of only one of them. For her charm, for her beauty, for her grace Chandra became very strongly attached to and fell very much in love with Rohini, precisely this star.
The remaining 26 wives of course experienced deep envy and jealousy towards Rohini and decided to complain to their father Daksha about such exclusive treatment of one wife and the neglect of the other wives by their husband Chandra. And they also complained to Brahma.
Daksha grew angry, was very greatly enraged with Chandra and cursed him. He said that henceforth your health, your length of life, your vital energy will constantly wane. But when the vital energy of Chandra began to wane, chaos began in the Universe, because the Moon saturates with its energies all the vegetables, that is, the food for those living beings, the herbs and including the medicinal herbs. And a serious danger arose that the whole Universe would be left without wonderful healing herbs.
Surely many listeners know that herbalists or healers who use herbs very often gather them at night-time. They set off specially into the forests and onto the glades in order to gather the necessary herbs, even though this is not very convenient. Precisely because at this moment they are maximally saturated with that healing energy which the Moon gives.
And so in the whole universe the herbs began to lose their healing properties because Chandra himself was gravely ill, ill with consumption. Such was the curse and he was wasting away literally before one's eyes. And then his wives together with the celestials set off to the creator of the Universe Brahma and began to beseech him somehow to soften, to neutralise the curse. But since the curse had already been laid and no one has yet managed to neutralise any curse, they tried to make a certain design of this curse in order to soften it.
And the compromise became a scheme by which Chandra for half a month withered and lost his vital forces and then for half a month gathered them again, and then withered again. This was the very moment from which, one may say, the lunar cycle began, that is, the waxing of the Moon and the waning of the Moon. That is, we now know that the Moon, and in Vedic astrology the Moon, the lunar calendar itself is divided into 2 periods, into 2 parts – these are gaura paksha and krishna paksha. That is, the light part of the Moon and the dark part of the Moon, that is, the waxing and the waning Moon.
This is why it happened so. Now you know what lies behind this astronomical phenomenon of the waxing and waning of the Moon, what a real, I would even say human, story.
What qualities are inherent in people born under the star Rohini. First of all a brilliant appearance. That is, these people are comely, they are attractive, in their gaze there is their own well-known magnetism. They have a very balanced mind, and it is not hard to guess why. They have gifts in music, dance and the dramatic art. They are often very successful in their career, that is, in growth. That is, since the star itself gives a person the possibility of attaining growth.
Also, the ability to influence society, the public, is given by the influence of this star; people who were born under this star possess such a quality. Success in politics, fame, wealth. Of course, you understand that if one interprets from the position of the star alone, we cannot immediately draw such conclusions. Because in order to speak, for example, of such categories as wealth, it is necessary to investigate the chart in more detail, in particular the houses which are connected with money, with profit. That is, as you remember, the 11th, 2nd, 5th houses.
Nevertheless, good health is also an attribute of this star. And people born under it are characterised, especially men of course, by a well-developed muscular system, well-developed musculature.
Where are they successful, in what spheres of activity can people born under the star Rohini be successful? As you have already understood, thanks to the fact that this star gives the possibility of growth in a career, of influence in society, then of course a political career for a person born under this star may be very promising.
And if it is a woman, then for a woman it is very easy to inspire the man who is beside her, her husband, having the power of the blessing of this star, to inspire him to growth in society, to stability in society, to respect and a certain influence. Even if the man does not have such indications from the star under which he was born.
Musicians, artists, actors, dancers – very talented, I can say from my practice that this really manifests itself.
Besides, agriculture without any doubt. That is, people born under this star are successful in any branch of agriculture.
This is the greatest healer, the most famous physician. Or the star Ashwini, you remember, these are the healers. Therefore it may be considered that if one of these stars is manifested somewhere in a person, or a very strong Sun, which, remember, is a healer, a physician, the person may be a very successful veterinarian.
Any operations with real estate also turn out very fortunate, successful for people born under this star. Well, one should also add the restaurant business because in the whole horoscope one can hardly find a sign which would give a person such a good understanding and taste for good food, such a measure of gourmet qualities, as Taurus and the star Rohini among them.
Therefore the restaurant business, and as adherents of comfort, people who value comfort more than all the remaining 26 stars and the remaining 11 signs, can of course better than anyone else provide it for others. Therefore the hotel business is also a territory of successful activity for people born under the star Rohini.
And besides that, couturiers, that is, fashion designers, the owners or founders of fashion houses, are also blessed by the influence of this star.
They are soft-hearted, but at the same time unbalanced, it is said. And they usually strive for higher education. As a rule women born under the influence of the star Rohini are happy in family life, provided that they do not hurry to enter into marriage. And usually they do not hurry, because Taurus natives are in no hurry at all. And both husband and children bring them quite a lot of joy; they are quite good mothers, excellent housekeepers.
With regard to men born under the star Rohini it is also said that they are attractive, have a beautiful build, a magnetic gaze. They are truthful, trusting, noble, can sacrifice everything for the sake of those people whom they love, but can also spare no effort in order to give a worthy rebuff to those people who do not love them.
Besides, proceeding from the experience of various horoscopes and the histories of people's biographies and those warnings which the sages of astrology give us, it is worth noting one such point, that people born under the star Rohini need to be very careful with regard to their associations and especially associations connected with entrepreneurial, business activity.
That is, with financial activity and so on. Because in one way or another, as it were, a side effect of the influence of this star is frequent deceptions on the part of business partners.

Sacred Energy Vortex: Kanchipuram Sri Pandava Dhootha Sri Krishna Perumal
The temple that holds the greatest significance for Rohini star is located in the town of Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu, India. This temple is also in close proximity to the Kumarakkottam Sri Murugan temple as well as the Sri Kamakshi Amman temple.
Rohini Devi attained enlightenment by offering prayers to Lord Krishna with complete devotion. Each of the 27 nakshatras is a wife of the Moon, but Rohini Devi was the very first to marry the Moon. She received this marriage blessing after standing on one toe of her right foot for eons at the Thaanthreeswarar Temple. Rohini also made offerings and prayers to Lord Krishna at the Sri Pandava Dhootha Sri Krishna temple in Kanchipuram. After this Rohini, received true insight and divine realization with the darshan of Lord Krishna, who embodied the entire universe.
The Mahabharatha tells the story of Duriyodhana, who was trying to cunningly overpower Lord Krishna. Duriyodhana attempted to trick Lord Krishna so that he could easily kill him. Lord Krishna, a master of illusion, played along, but before Duriyodhana could trick him, Lord Krishna revealed his true cosmic nature in the form of Sri Pandava Dhootha Perumal. Lord Krishna sits 30 feet tall at this auspicious temple and bestows his grace while embodying the whole universe.
Those born under Rohini star should visit this temple at least once in their lifetime to make offerings to Lord Krishna. It is recommended to offer food to the poor people at the temple as a remedy for karma with friends and family. Krishna’s favorite foods include Adai (rice cakes), Murukku (rice donut) and Seedai (rice, coconut and sesame sweet). It is also suggested to walk around the temple, from the left to the right, and carry a ghee lamp as a remedy to relieve sorrow. This is a temple of abundance and visiting on Rohini Day or Ashtami tithi will bring great benefits of prosperity.
Rohini natives, your incense is made with the herb Jamun as prescribed by the Vedas.
