Moon in the 5th house

Results given by the Moon in the fifth house of the horoscope

Chandra (Moon) in the 5th house

The Moon in the fifth house. Learning, responsibility, a good standing in society, happiness through children or pupils. The Moon in the 5th house gives an inclination towards prayer and mantra, pious deeds, honesty, good luck in investing money. (Indubala)

The Moon in the fifth house: a love of pleasures and speculation, an innate artistry. (Sri Govind Swarup Agarwal)

The Moon in the 5th house gives intellect, education, well-being and children. This is an intelligent, calm and patient person. The Moon in this house gives more daughters, since it is itself a feminine planet. The person will have good, obedient, noble children. The Moon here gives very positive results, since it is in the 9th house from the 9th house. This is a person who created positive karma in a past life. The 5th house also shows religiousness, charity, kindness, spiritual practice. A positive Moon strengthens these indications. If the Moon is in the sign of Taurus, the person will have a very beautiful and kind wife. If the Moon is in the 5th house in the sign of Sagittarius, the children may fall seriously ill during the Moon's dasha period. (Mahesh Dharmadasa)

«Bhrigu Sutra» 2.25-32

The wife of the horoscope's owner will be beautiful, but will possess a hot temper and have an ominous birthmark in the centre of her chest, foreboding dangers. A person whose Moon is in the 5th house of the horoscope will be hard-working, will have a sattvic nature, will be abundantly supplied with milk and will own a rich herd of cattle. He will care for his family, have two wives, several daughters and only one son. The owner of the horoscope will venerate female deities. Under a favourable aspect of the Moon he will do good to other people; under a harmful aspect or conjunction he will not. With a strong full Moon he will receive many blessings from learned people. Filled with glory and strength, the owner of the horoscope will care for other people. Having performed many good deeds, he will be very fortunate, prosperous, possessing knowledge, and a raja-yogi.

Commentary:

The most important characteristic of the 5th house is religiousness, an inclination towards prayers and the practice of mantras. All the later astrological systems disregard the spiritual characteristics of the houses, but in fact these are the foremost indicators of karma. It is precisely by this house that a person's past life is determined. The 5th house is the ninth in relation to the 9th house and is likewise a house of dharma and bhagya. «Dharma» translated from Sanskrit means religiousness, duty, a person's obligation, while «bhagya» is translated as «good fortune». The Vedic tradition holds that only following one's own «dharma», that is, serving and worshipping God, brings a person good fortune, and therefore these two concepts are united in a single house.

The presence of a benefic Moon and Mercury, Jupiter and Venus in the 5th and 9th houses speaks of a person's positive karma, of the fact that in his past lives he engaged in spiritual practices, studied the sacred scriptures and won many blessings from holy people. The result of pious activity in past lives is the patronage of God, of the government, of the father, and also fame, wealth and prosperity. The Moon in the 5th house of the horoscope, as a feminine planet, gives an inclination towards serving female deities: Radharani and her incarnations, Lakshmi, Durga (Kali), Aphrodite, Demeter, or in the Christian tradition — the Virgin Mary.

In Vedic times it was considered that a Raja-yogi in this context is not only a person practising raja-yoga, but also a «king among yogis», one who throughout his life, occupying a high social position and enjoying all material goods, remained unattached to them and renounced. Such elevated personalities are often described in Vedic literature, and a vivid example of holiness of character is the father of Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, King Janaka, who was called a rajarishi or a raja-yogi.

A man may have as many wives as he is able to fully provide for materially; moreover, a man must be a spiritual teacher and mentor to his wives. The presence of the Moon in the 5th house gives wealth and religiousness and, consequently, the possibility of having several wives. At present, when following one's dharma and the Vedic principles has been all but lost, and self-realisation is at a very low level, such a position of the Moon in a man's horoscope gives an inclination towards extramarital affairs.

The Moon is a feminine and fertile planet, and its presence in the 5th house — the house of children — indeed gives many children, especially girls. If the Moon is a benefic planet in the horoscope, then its owner will be able to take pride in his children.

Other opinions regarding the Moon (Chandra) in the 5th house:

«Brihat Jataka» — many children.

«Phaladipika» — endowed with high intelligence, the owner of the horoscope will have good children and will become a minister to the king.

«Saravali» — the owner of the horoscope will be timid and shy, wise and renowned, will have a high education, good friends and children.

«Chamatkar Chintamani» — happiness awaits the owner of the horoscope in the circle of his children. He will attain wealth, prosperity, success in financial and banking affairs, while remaining a religious person.

Note: To the characteristics of the Moon in the 5th house listed in the «Bhrigu Sutra», the authors add high intelligence, a good education and wisdom, which fully corresponds to the indications of the 5th house.

RESULTS OF THE PLACEMENT OF CHANDRA IN THE 5th BHAVA

With Chandra placed in the 5th Bhava the person will be an ascetic (one who has subdued the senses, the passions), truthful, cheerful, wealthy, will possess progeny, comfort, happiness and noble qualities (character).

Commentary: If Chandra is placed in the 5th Bhava [house] and is endowed with strength, then the person is pure (inclined towards purity), his memory is exceptionally strong, he has a talent for creating successful and easy plans. But if Chandra is deprived of strength, the results may be the opposite. If Chandra is in a feminine sign, then the person has many daughters, he venerates the goddess (Durga) and is devoted to his family, wife and children.
