27. Revati (16°40′ — 30°00′ of Pisces)

Varahamihira: The Moon in Revati gives a perfect body, soft manners, deep learning, wealth and an absence of any desire to covet other people’s property.

General indications: The symbol of Revati is a clock face, and its deity is Pushan, who patronises food and watches over safety on the road.
Having a clock face as its symbol, Revati governs everything that increases and grows, including time. Sometimes activity marked by the influence of this nakshatra unfolds in leaps and bounds, accompanied by fanfares and clatter. Everything connected with conveniences on the road, namely security, shelter and hospitality, falls within the competence of Revati. The lagna or the Moon here often indicates a hospitable host, a reliable and responsible friend, who is sociable simply because he loves to socialise.

Pushan, who is also associated with the finding of vanished things and objects, is the lord of the heavenly cows, and under his care fall reproduction, breeding and guardianship. When at one of our classes a student, seizing the moment, said that in a certain woman’s horoscope the Moon was in the 4th house in Revati, our jyotish guru (or the ishta devata speaking through his lips) at once declared clearly and unambiguously: «That means she must have two mothers!» And so it was — she had both a mother and a stepmother. Note the agreement between two factors: the 4th house and the Moon, both being dispositors of the mother, were located in the dual-bodied sign of Pisces, in Revati nakshatra! This effect was strengthened by other factors, in particular by a strong affliction of the Moon by Saturn. Revati is also often connected with childhood illnesses.

Professions, people and places of habitation: Someone or something connected with time: wall clocks and wristwatches, calendar makers and so on. The key concept

Benefit obtained from rendering support to those around. From serving others, life’s difficulties decrease and prosperity increases.

«Revati» is translated simply as «rich». Another translation is «to go beyond the limits», which suits the last nakshatra better.

The deity of Revati is the soft and caring Pushan, who bestows prosperity and is responsible for the completion of matters. He is in many ways similar to Surya and is depicted standing at the beginning of any paths and undertakings. He also illuminates all roads and is therefore so popular as a deity of safe travel. Thus Revati is connected with all kinds of travel: physical, mental, emotional, astral and causal.

The activity of Revati is described by such words as «dreaminess», «reverence», «rotation», «noisy merriment», «decisiveness». This is one of the most pleasant, benevolent and lucky nakshatras, which sees everything in a positive light. Revati personalities are eternal optimists who do not give in to agitation even in the face of great troubles. They firmly believe in Divine providence and know how to keep faith. But in some cases they are inclined to do nothing but believe.

Many people born under the nakshatra Revati are inclined to rely on their own opinion, which is not always connected with reality. To ground Revati and lend it realism, some influence of Saturn is needed. For example, one person has Jupiter placed in this nakshatra and aspected by Saturn, while another person has Jupiter placed in this nakshatra without an aspect from Saturn. The former will most likely make active use of the many benefits provided by the nakshatra, while the latter will be inclined to have his head in the clouds.

Since Revati is the nakshatra of dreamers, its natives are able to create whole worlds around themselves. This happens because Revati is strongly connected with Maya, illusion. The result is a kind of Maya within Maya, which is not very useful for enlightenment. The best thing Revati people can do is to see the world as it is.

Revati personalities support others, and they, in their turn, are always supported by someone; they are guaranteed to receive help at the moment when they need it most acutely.

Revati may be regarded as the highest stage of the degree of civilisation. But on the whole Revati people are good advisers and know how to solve people’s problems or to direct them in the right direction.

Revati personalities usually have a refined, harmonious body and a cheerful, good-natured manner of behaviour. They are indulgent and know how to extract the maximum pleasure from life. It should be noted that developed souls try to detach themselves from Maya, to move into the position of an observer. Souls with a lower level of development, however, are inclined to immerse themselves completely in illusory material life. In its lowest manifestation Revati easily falls captive to illusions.

This nakshatra has practically no sense of proportion, and therefore its natives are easily carried away by something and as a result do too much.

Revati loves to spread its influence through speech and other kinds of communication. This is a charming, enchanting nakshatra. It completely absorbs the attention of the person it is communicating with, and the interlocutor may feel that nothing exists apart from the two of them.

Revati is the last nakshatra; it deals with the infinity of time and space and possesses the ability to understand and even to imitate the energies of the other nakshatras. The wisdom inherent in it allows it to see all sides of a situation and to choose the optimal (middle) path.

It is also characterised by a soft and devoted nature and a love of animals. Rapid growth, abundance, creative abilities, self-sacrifice, sensitivity. But disappointments often arise, since they give more than is needed, and not always to the right people. There may be a gift for foresight. It is very good for them to live near water.

Men

Men born under Revati have a good build and are of medium height. They have fair facial skin.

Open-heartedness, softness and politeness in dealings help them to build relationships with those around them. They are independent in relationships, do not like to cause trouble, are unable to keep secrets, and are very vulnerable. They do not believe a person blindly; they need time to test a relationship, but if someone has won their trust, it is for a long time. An innate quality is a strong intellect. Revati women are beautiful and attractive and are always noticed in company.

Their education is connected with literature, mathematics and art. They may work as telephone operators, teachers or secretaries, or represent the culture of their country abroad.

A harmonious family life, unless the husband is born under the nakshatra Ardra. In that case there will be no mutual understanding and divorce is quite likely.

Deformation of the feet, an intestinal ulcer and deafness are possible.

The padas (quarters)

The first pada (16°40′ — 20°00′ of Pisces) falls into the navamsha of Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter. This pada is connected with happiness, luck, optimism and the charitable side of Revati. The first pada has a tendency to become carried away, and therefore it is important that the natives choose the right things to be carried away by. They are of the sort who will devote themselves fanatically to a cause or to convictions. The person will be clever, cheerful, educated and loving, and will have a steady income.

The second pada (20°00′ — 23°20′ of Pisces) falls into the navamsha of Capricorn, ruled by Saturn. This lends practicality and organisation. The fourth pada (26°40′ — 30°00′ of Pisces) falls into the navamsha of Pisces, ruled by Jupiter. This is the eternal dreamer. This pada gives good results only in the case where it is occupied by such malefics as Mars and Saturn. This pada easily falls under someone else’s influence.

The ruling planet

The main ruler of Revati is Mercury. Its function here is the categorisation, classification and determination of the place of all things and phenomena. Not an easy task, but Mercury does not lose its sense of humour because of it.

In Revati Mercury must develop to the level of the enlightened one — the Buddha. That is exactly what the ancient Vedic seers called this planet: the goal was designated and encoded in the name!
