Saturn in the 4th house: This combination indicates success far from the place of birth and at least a multitude of opportunities favourable for journeys abroad. In their soul they are renounced people, and can lead a simple way of life. They may become owners of considerable property. Saturn in the fourth house: Sluggish, lazy, not joyful. Study comes hard, and often the education turns out to be interrupted. The person receives real estate and an inheritance. These people have to live in old, uncomfortable houses. If a movable sign is in the 4th house, the person often has to change his place of residence. Scandals connected with real estate. They have great responsibility towards their relatives. They have to care a great deal for those close to them. Bad for domestic comfort. The person lacks maternal love. They have a hard childhood, in which there is no necessary attention. A predisposition towards heart illnesses. Poor health of the mother and tormenting illnesses. “Bhrigu Sutra” 7.14-21
If Saturn is in the 4th house, the early loss of the mother is expected. After the death of the mother the owner of the horoscope will get a stepmother. But if Saturn is placed in its own sign or in the sign of exaltation, these unfavourable characteristics will not manifest. With such positions of Saturn the ownership of horses and prestigious means of transport, such as a palanquin, is possible. If Saturn in the 4th house happens to be the lord of the lagna, the mother of the owner of the horoscope will live a long life, and he himself will be happy and will live in comfort. In the case of a conjunction of Saturn with the lord of the 8th house misfortunes and the death of the mother are predicted.
Comments:
Saturn, being a malefic planet and occupying the 4th house, does not bring happiness to the owner of the horoscope and to his mother, except for a placement in its own signs and in the sign of exaltation, since in these cases a shasha yoga is formed, which has already been described earlier.
In Vedic astrology there is a rule saying that a conjunction of the lords of the 6th, 8th and 12th houses with any planet negatively influences not only the indications of that planet, but also the characteristics of the house in which the conjunction is placed. If the lord of the 8th house is joined with Saturn in the 4th house, the unfavourable characteristics described in sutras 20 and 21 will manifest.
In the medical aspect the 4th house characterises the chest and the heart, therefore the presence of a malefic Saturn in it may cause the corresponding illnesses.
Influencing the 1st house, Saturn in the 4th house gives modesty, patience, devotion and fidelity. People with such a placement in the horoscope are fairly detached from worldly bustle and are content with what they have. But this same influence speaks of illnesses at an early age.
For the rising signs of Taurus and Libra Saturn is a yoga-karaka, a planet of strength, and its placement in a kendra leads to the arising of strong dhana yogas (combinations of planets indicating wealth). A dhana yoga will also arise with Aries rising, when Saturn will be the lord of the 10th and 11th houses.
Other opinions concerning Saturn in the 4th house:
“Brihat Jataka” — a restless mind and misfortunes.
“Phaladipika” — the owner of the horoscope will be deprived of his mother, home, means of transport and happiness. He will be sickly during his childhood.
“Saravali” — the same characteristics as in the “Phaladipika”.

The results of the placement of Saturn (Shani) in the 4th house
If the son of Nalinisha (Surya) — Shani — is placed in the 4th Bhava, then the person is weak because—of an excess of Pitta (Fire) and Vata (Wind), possesses immoral inclinations, sluggish (lazy), quarrelsome, weak and dirty.
Comments: If Shani [Saturn] stands in the 4th Bhava [house], then the person will build his house far from his place of birth. The person will be interested in agriculture or in work connected with iron, will take part in politics and so on. If he lives in his father's house, then he will face uncomfortable, unpleasant situations. He will suffer from losses, from illnesses of the Vata dosha, because of gossip (slander), from mental pain. There is a probability of getting trouble because of some animal. His mind is agitated, weak and full of anxiety. Shani in this Bhava will give unfavourable results to the person's mother.
