These terms govern the use of AstroJyotish.info. By opening the site you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the site — that is the whole of the bargain, and it costs nothing either way.

What the site is

AstroJyotish.info is a free reference on Vedic astrology together with a natal chart calculator. The reference texts are compiled from open sources and classical treatises. The calculation reproduces the «Surya-Siddhanta» mode of the Jagannatha Hora program, re-implemented from scratch for this site. Everything here is offered for study and for personal interest.

Not advice

Nothing on this site is medical, legal, financial or psychological advice, and nothing here replaces a doctor, a lawyer, an accountant or a therapist. A chart does not diagnose illness, does not predict the outcome of a lawsuit and does not tell you where to put your money. If a page touches on health, work or relationships, treat it as material for your own thinking, and take real decisions with people qualified to help you make them.

Astrological interpretation is not a science with reproducible predictions, and we make no claim that it is. Classical sources disagree with one another; so do schools; so, sometimes, do two readings of the same chart. We publish the material as it stands rather than pretending to a certainty nobody has.

Accuracy of the calculation

The calculation is verified against a corpus of reference charts and reproduces all nine bodies to better than half an arc-minute in that mode. That is a statement about agreement with a particular tradition of computation, not about astronomical reality: the Surya-Siddhanta is a medieval model and its longitudes differ from modern ephemerides by design. Results also depend entirely on the birth data you enter — an approximate birth time gives an approximate chart, and no amount of precision downstream repairs that.

We do our best to keep the site correct, and we are glad to be told when it is not. But the site is provided «as is»: we do not warrant that it will be available without interruption, free of errors, or fit for any particular purpose of yours.

Your use of the site

You may read, quote and print the material for personal use, and quote it elsewhere with a link back to the page you took it from. You may not republish the site's texts wholesale as your own, scrape it in a way that degrades service for other readers, or use automated tools to hammer the calculator.

You may not use the site to harm others: submitting another person's birth data without their knowledge in order to draw conclusions about them is a misuse of it, whatever the technical possibility. Attempting to break into the administrative area, to interfere with the servers, or to bypass access controls is likewise not permitted and may be unlawful where you are.

Accounts, charts and content you submit

What you type into the calculator stays yours. You keep whatever rights you have in it; by submitting it you allow us to store it and to process it in order to produce and deliver your chart, and nothing else. Details of what we hold and for how long are in the privacy policy.

Anything you send us as a correction, a suggestion or a report of an error may be used to improve the site, without payment and without obligation, unless you tell us otherwise when you send it.

Rights in the material

The compiled texts, the design and the code of the site belong to the project or are used with permission. Source material quoted from classical treatises and from open sources remains under whatever terms it carries. Where you believe something has been published here in breach of your rights, write to us and we will take it down or credit it properly — whichever you ask for — without argument.

Consultations and contributions

Consultations are given for a voluntary contribution to the project, not as a purchased service with a guaranteed outcome. A contribution supports the site's upkeep and the translation of its material; it does not buy a prediction and does not entitle anyone to a particular reading. Nothing is charged through this site, and payment platforms linked from here operate under their own terms.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, the project is not liable for decisions you take on the basis of anything you read here, nor for indirect losses arising from use of the site. Where the law does not allow a limitation — and in several countries it does not — this clause applies only as far as it may.
