The symbol of Aquarius used in jyotish is a vessel in which something is kept in reserve, just as water is poured into a pitcher. In connection with this, Aquarius natives love to gather and store up knowledge, since Venus for them rules two houses at once connected with learning (the 4th and the 9th), and Saturn is exalted in the 9th house. Aquarius natives are, as a rule, more interested in obtaining practical and scientific knowledge than in attaining spiritual wisdom, since Venus and Saturn are materialistic grahas. In the life of Aquarius natives success alternates with downfall, achievements with losses: for Saturn, the significator of the 12th house (loss), rules both the 1st and the 12th houses with this lagna. Just as with Capricorn, advancement in career for an Aquarius occurs slowly and gradually (the reason is the same: Aquarius is under the influence of Saturn — the slowest planet). Commentary: The primary element of the Rashi Kumbha [the sign Aquarius] is Air (‘Vayu’). This Rashi is of immovable character, and is ruled by Shani [Saturn]. People who are born in Kumbha Lagna are, as a rule, generous, able to establish high ideals and possess a spirit of cooperation. On the intellectual level they are extremely logical, far-sighted and hold a scientific point of view. Adhering to useful principles, they obtain important achievements in life. Although they definitely lack self-assurance. But if Budha [Mercury] and Mangala [Mars] are in favourable positions in the chart, then the insufficient confidence is not so noticeable; on the contrary, in this case they achieve much on the material level thanks to the power of their intellect, practical planning and industriousness.

They believe in the resolution of any dispute by way of an exchange of opinions. If in the chart of birth Shani exerts a bad influence, then the paternal profession and well-being are destroyed. According to the author of the book «Man-Sagri» a person born with Kumbha Lagna has an immovable, steady mind, many friends, a tender body, they are attracted and attached not to their own wife but to some other woman, and are very happy.
