The chart of the Kalapurusha (with the Lagna in Aries, or the «natural horoscope»)
When studying a horoscope, take the sign of Aries as the Ascendant (the so-called chart of the Kalapurusha) and assess the placements and aspects of the planets relative to Aries.
Let us suppose that you are interested in the 7th house in a chart with the Lagna in Cancer. First study the natal 7th house (the sign of Capricorn) carefully, and then put the sign of Aries in the Lagna and assess the 7th from it (Libra). Such an analysis may somewhat modify the initial conclusions.
The next principle: if a planet in a chart falls into the house it would rule were the sign of Aries in the Ascendant, such a planet becomes favourable. From which it follows that Mars in the 8th house, Mercury in the 6th and Venus in the 12th will be very productive in their planetary periods, since they occupy solid positions relative to Aries — the Lagna of the chart of the Kalapurusha.

Kala Purusha, or the «Cosmic Man» — is a profound notion in Vedic astrology, and it can be explained in various ways.
The Purusha sukta, one of the hymns of the Rigveda, describes the creation of the Universe out of the parts of the body of the Cosmic Man, Purusha (purusha — «man», «male»), from whose parts the whole Universe came forth.
«Kaala» in Sanskrit means «Time». Time devours everything except Virat Purusha, the Universal Form of Lord Vishnu, the cosmic spirit, the primordial being. Thus Kala Purusha rules all-destroying time, but is himself outside its influence.
The 12 Rashis (that is, the signs of the zodiac) show Time and its personification Kala Purusha (the Universal Man, the Man-Time, the Macrocosm), the collective karma of people. The whole zodiac is the body of Kala Purusha.
The starting point of his horoscope begins with the 1st Rashi, Mesha (Aries) — this is the head of Kala Purusha and his Lagna (Ascendant). That is, the Lagna of all people is Aries (Mesha), but each person may have another Lagna in his horoscope, depending on the sign that was rising in the east at the moment of his birth.
