What a dispositor planet in a horoscope is

If a planet is placed in a particular sign of the Zodiac, the ruler of that sign becomes the dispositor of that planet.

The dispositor plays a paramount role in assessing the strength of a planet and its possible results. A strong dispositor improves the condition of any planet, while a weak one can noticeably lower the degree of the positive manifestations even of a strong planet.

Let us suppose that the sign of Aquarius falls in the Ascendant, and that in the 2nd house there is the exalted Yoga-karaka Venus. To assess the condition of Venus one must take a close look at its dispositor Jupiter. Jupiter occupying the sign of Libra in the 9th house and exchanging signs with Venus will give one set of results, while a debilitated Jupiter in Capricorn in the 12th house foretells entirely different events.

The general rule says that it is better for the dispositor of a planet to keep clear of the 6th, 8th and 12th houses from the Lagna, since such a dispositor will harm even a strong planet. A strong and favourable dispositor, on the other hand, is able to hearten a weakened planet.

Sometimes some planet acquires the status of the final dispositor of all the planets in the horoscope. This happens when all the celestial bodies are placed in the signs of one planet, or when the dispositors of the planets are themselves placed in the signs of these same planets. For example, for Mercury, the Sun and Venus in the sign of Virgo the dispositor is Mercury. If then Jupiter and Saturn fall into Libra, Rahu/Ketu into Sagittarius and Gemini, and the Moon and Mars into Capricorn or Aquarius, Mercury becomes the final dispositor in this horoscope. Such a planet acquires additional strength and influence.
