The critical degrees of the Zodiac — a little-studied subject in astrology

Sepharial, a well-known Western astrologer and author of books, asserted that the Chaldeans divided the zodiac into 28 parts of 12.85° each and called these parts lunar mansions, since the Moon returned to the same degree every 28 days. For each lunar mansion he determined sensitive points, which he called critical:

Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn: 0°, 13°, 26°

Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius: 9°, 21°

Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces: 4°, 17°

A planet placed in a critical degree in the natal chart occupies an important place in a person’s life. Several planets in critical degrees, and especially the Lagna in such a position, make a person a striking personality.

The critical degrees were widely used by the ancient Arab astrologers, but be that as it may, this subject is as yet little studied.
