The 22nd drekkana and the 64th navamsha

The 22nd drekkana and the 64th navamsha

The 22nd drekkana

If we put the degree of the Ascendant into the 8th house of the Rashi chart and find the position of this point in the Drekkana, we obtain the position of the 22nd drekkana. It is also the 8th house in the D3 chart, and the lord of this house receives the status of ruler of the 22nd drekkana.

The 64th navamsha

It is counted from the position of the Moon. Transfer the degree of the Moon to the 8th sign from it and determine the position of this point in the Navamsha — this will be the 64th navamsha. It is also the 4th house from the Moon in the D9 chart, and its lord is called the ruler of the 64th navamsha.

The Sarpa drekkana

The sarpa drekkanas are the 2nd and 3rd thirds of the sign of Cancer, the 1st and 2nd drekkanas of Scorpio, and also the last drekkana of Pisces. In the periods/subperiods of planets placed in these drekkanas a worsening of health is observed, if there are other indications for it in the chart as well.

Observations concerning the 22nd drekkana and the 64th navamsha

1. If the ruler of the navamsha of the Moon is hostile towards the lord of the 64th navamsha, the person’s life will be short; when their relations are neutral, the length of life will be average; friendship between these two planets favours longevity.

2. Transits of planets over the 64th navamsha are accompanied by important events in a person’s life. The character of these events depends on the nature of the transiting planets.

3. When the sign in which the 64th navamsha stands is afflicted in the Drekkana (D3), Dvadashamsha (D12) and Trimshamsha (D30) charts, then in the Chara-dasha of this sign the person will be struck by an incurable illness.

4. Both the 22nd drekkana from the Lagna and the 64th navamsha from the Moon represent a serious threat to a person’s health and life. Their rulers and the planets standing there have an extremely pernicious influence on well-being.

5. A retrograde planet as the lord of the 22nd drekkana or of the 64th navamsha becomes doubly dangerous for health. The same may be said of retrograde planets placed in these amshas.

6. Chapter 49 gives a table of the drekkanas and the parts of the body corresponding to them, which was compiled from the works of Varahamihira. One must look at which drekkana the Ascendant falls into and which organ corresponds to it. In the dasha of the ruler of the 22nd drekkana this part of the body may be struck by an ailment.

7. In the Drekkana chart (D3) attention should be paid to:

— the lord of the 8th house;
— the planets placed in the 8th house;
— the planets joined to the lord of the 8th house;
— the planets receiving the aspect of the lord of the 8th.

In the Navamsha chart (D9) what matters is:

— the ruler of the 4th house from the Moon in the Navamsha;
— the planets placed in that house;
— the planets joined to the lord of that house;
— the planets that this lord aspects.

All these planets are distinguished by an evil disposition and are able to cause illnesses, and even death, in their dashas and antardashas.
