Lagnadhi Yoga
When beneficent planets occupy the seventh and eighth houses from the lagna, free of conjunctions with malefic planets and of aspects from them, Lagnadhi yoga arises.
One born with this yoga is learned and endowed with comfort.
The above definition of Lagnadhi yoga was given by Parashara. This yoga is comparable to Chandra-Adhi yoga, which is formed by the presence of beneficent planets in the sixth, seventh and eighth houses from the Moon. Possibly the sixth house must also have a favourable occupancy for Lagnadhi yoga to be formed.
Other authors define this yoga as the result of the placement of beneficent planets in the sixth, seventh and eighth houses, free of conjunction with malefic planets and of aspects received from them, with the fourth house also having to be free of harmful influence.
Lagnadhi yoga grants the person born with it virtue, learning, stable wealth, a high position in society, a benevolent character and a capacity for composition and writing.
Obtaining a flawless Lagnadhi yoga is not a common case. Very often, when three beneficent planets are placed in the sixth, seventh and eighth houses from the lagna, malefic planets tend to join them or to aspect them. This does not lead to the complete destruction of the Lagnadhi yoga; instead the yoga undergoes considerable modification. This aspect must be borne in mind when interpreting the results of the classical yogas, which are contaminated by the conjunction or aspects of additional planets.

The birth chart belongs to an outstanding film actor of Indian cinema who dominated the world’s screens for a number of years. Born with the lagna in Kumbha, with a balance of 13 years and 10 days of the dasha of Rahu, he has three beneficent planets (Mercury, Jupiter and Venus) in the sixth and eighth houses. However, two harmful planets, the Sun and Mars, also occupy the eighth house, while the third harmful planet, Saturn, occupies the fourth house and aspects Jupiter, which is in the sixth house.
Thus a degraded Lagnadhi yoga is formed, with the additional influence of three harmful planets — the Sun, Mars and Saturn. Alongside the altered Lagnadhi yoga, a fine Gaja-Kesari yoga is formed involving the sixth and ninth houses and the rulers of the second, sixth and eleventh houses. So the Gaja-Kesari yoga indicates name, renown and fortune through struggle and rivalry, and the enormous monetary profit that results from it. Jupiter, the ruler of the second and eleventh houses, is exalted in the sixth house and belongs to the Ardha trikona, or the trinal houses of wealth.

The person born with the above chart made his leap in 1967, during the Jupiter-Moon dasha. In the Jupiter-Mars dasha he left his job and tied his career to the cinema. The ruler of the tenth house, Mars, occupies the eighth house and is joined with Mercury.
The period of Saturn was the most outstanding in material and professional respects. Saturn, the ruler of the lagna, occupies the fourth house and aspects the tenth house. In the navamsha chart too, Saturn is a favourable planet occupying a friendly and auspicious house.
In the Saturn-Sun dasha, however, in July 1982, he was seriously injured — the Sun is the ruler of the seventh house, a maraka, and occupies the eighth house in conjunction with the ruler of the eighth house (unforeseen unfavourable events), while Mars indicates physical injuries. In the Saturn-Mars period (1985) the person ended his film career and joined politics. Mars here once again contributed to his leaving his professional work.
With the onset of the dasha of Mercury, the native returned to his film career. Mercury, one of the components of the Adhi yoga, is the exalted ruler of the fifth house (the indicator of creative potential) and occupies the eighth house (the indicator of hidden talents).
The native was carried along by the world of films for a number of years. In the case of other actors, their advantage and standing were short-lived and doubtful. In the case of the person born with the chart given above, his advantage was never in doubt. The proximity of Mars and the Sun, of Mercury, the ruler of the fifth and eighth houses, and of Venus in debilitation played its part. His career was full of scandals, of rises and falls. Nevertheless, he preserved a fabulously good reputation and an image of splendour and erudition, thanks to the excellent Gaja-Kesari yoga and the Lagnadhi yoga. The dominance of the eighth house in this combination brings into the Lagnadhi yoga surprises, unforeseen turns and interruptions in the career.
