Dear friends, I welcome you to the astrological school «Surya-Siddhanta»!

My name is Vasily Tushkin and I have been engaged in popularising spiritual knowledge based on the ancient tradition of the Vedas since 1988.

I offer you instruction in ancient Vedic astrology, which is gaining ever greater renown in the Western world and is a powerful instrument for understanding one’s own destiny and purpose.

A few words about myself. I was born in Vladivostok in 1960. From childhood I was interested in the philosophy and culture of the East. Therefore in 1978 I entered the Oriental faculty of the FEGU (Far Eastern State University). I graduated from it in 1983 and received a diploma as a philologist and orientalist and a translator of Japanese and English. From 1983 to 1988 I worked for the Far Eastern Shipping Company (FESCO) on passenger vessels in the region of South-East Asia, Australia and Oceania as a translator and passenger administrator.

I began to study Vedic astrology (Jyotish) in 1999 with the blessing of one of my teachers, Bhanu Swami, who is himself an experienced astrologer. In 2000 I corresponded with the well-known Indian astrologer Sanjay Rath, and he recommended that I take a basic course under the guidance of one of his pupils in Russia, Yuri Parshikov. On completing that basic course I continued to study Jyotish independently. Later, for several years I took part in one of the internet forums on Jyotish, exchanging understanding and practical experience with other astrologers. From 2009 people began to approach me with requests to teach them the fundamentals of Jyotish. Thus I began to give courses in person, which helped me to systematise the material and to understand it more deeply myself. As the saying goes, «you teach best what you yourself most want to learn». For me, teaching others is also a powerful stimulus to go on learning myself. In 2013 in Udupi (South-West India) I met an astrologer named Jayatirtha, who is the head of one of the temples of Krishna and a pupil of the chief astrologer of Udupi. Jayatirtha acquainted me with the ancient Surya-Siddhanta system, which has survived mainly in Southern India. He demonstrated to me the merits of this system of calculations, and from October 2013 I went over to this system entirely, having become convinced of its advantages.

In 2015 I took part in the creation of the Vrajendra Astro School (VAS), preparing teaching presentations and holding master classes for the students. Later I decided to found the independent project of the «Surya-Siddhanta» school, which I now present for your judgement.

At present the course consists of three introductory video lectures in which I acquaint all who wish with the basic concepts of Vedic astrology. Next comes the «Basic course» (BC) of 30 lessons, and after successfully completing it a student may take the «Advanced course» (AC), also of 30 lessons. The creation of a «Master course» is also planned.

How does the instruction proceed?

So that there are no false expectations, you must understand from the very beginning that the course is intended for people who are disciplined, sufficiently motivated and inclined to independent work. Video lessons and additional materials for them will be posted on the school’s Forum. After each lesson you will have to do homework. The school will have several curators from among the most successful students who have completed the BC and the AC. They will help you, especially at the initial stage. In everything else you will be studying on your own. I shall help you in the form of periodic master classes and answers to your questions on the Forum. At the end of the BC there will be an examination. Those who pass it successfully will be able to study on the AC.

Payment

According to Vedic culture, astrology is a brahminical discipline. The brahmins are the natural teachers of human society. They teach people because it is their duty and their calling. They do not turn knowledge into a commodity, since knowledge is a manifestation of divine energy. However, those who receive this knowledge must also fulfil their own duty, which consists in sensible questions and in help to the teacher. This idea is set out in the Bhagavad-gita (chapter 4, text 34). Such is the Vedic technology of receiving knowledge. If a pupil only takes knowledge but does not thank the teacher, that knowledge simply will not be assimilated, since God in the heart controls the process of understanding. It is said in the Vedas that if a person takes something but gives nothing in return, he is considered a thief. Every student must therefore understand this principle of instruction. Our school has no fixed payment; the principle of voluntary donation applies.

So that there are no problems with the return of donations in the event of disappointment and a wish to break off the studies, I recommend that you do not pay for the whole course at once, but make your donations after each lesson. I recommend paying for the whole course at once only to those who are 108% certain that they will go through the course to the end.
