The lord of the 2nd house in the 4th house of the horoscope

“Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra” (chapter 26): “In the case where the ruler of the 2nd bhava occupies the 4th bhava, the native possesses all kinds of wealth. If it is in conjunction with Guru or is in a rashi of exaltation, then the native will be the equal of a king.”

Comments: When the ruler of the 2nd bhava is placed in the 4th bhava, the native is especially eager to invest his money in objects of luxury and pleasure, and therefore he possesses all kinds of wealth”. Only with the Tula [Libra] Lagna will the ruler of the 2nd bhava, Mangala [Mars], placed in the 4th bhava, be in its rashi [sign] of exaltation, and therefore a person with the Tula Lagna will be especially wealthy. If Mangala is joined with Guru [Jupiter], then the native is said to possess all riches, and he is the equal of a king. Although Guru in the 4th bhava with this Lagna will be in its rashi of debilitation, still Mangala will be in its rashi of exaltation — the debilitation of Guru will be neutralised. In the Chaukhamba edition (‘Chaukhamba’) the 2nd line of this shloka reads as follows: “If the ruler of the 2nd bhava is in conjunction with Guru and Shukra or is in a rashi of exaltation in the 4th bhava, then the native will be like a king”.

The placement of the ruler of the 2nd in the 4th house may give the following results:

• that which is the most valuable thing in life for the person, that which he seeks to acquire in order to sustain himself — safety and a feeling of comfort in his own home
• the person needs physical security in order to feel his own worth
• the person keeps his savings secret (the 4th house), and is not in the habit of putting on display anything of what he owns (it does not matter whether it is 100 dollars or a Rolls-Royce)

1. To watch over one’s diet: how, what, where and with whom we eat.
2. To watch over one’s speech — respectful, reverent, conscious speech.
3. To be scrupulous and honest in money matters.
4. To engage in self-education and in association with wise people.
5. To give children a family upbringing and education.
6. To serve and worship one’s parents, seeing in them a part of God — the manifestation of the masculine and feminine Divine principle.
7. To feed the poor and students.
