The lord of the 2nd house in the 2nd house of the horoscope

“Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra” (chapter 26): “In the case where the ruler of the 2nd bhava is in the 2nd bhava, the native will be wealthy and proud, he will have two or more wives, but will have no sons (offspring)”.

Comments: The absence of sons is chiefly noted in people with the Kumbha [Aquarius] Lagna. In this case there must be some ruinous influence on Guru [Jupiter]. In the chart of such a native the rashi Simha [the sign Leo] is in the 7th bhava [house]. The 7th bhava is regarded as the Lagna of the native’s wife. Therefore the wife’s Lagna becomes Simha [Leo]. Counting from this Lagna, the ruler of the 5th bhava will be Guru. Therefore even the slightest ruinous influence on Guru will not allow the native’s wife to conceive.

The placement of the ruler of the 2nd in its own 2nd house may give the following tendencies:

  • a need for a feeling of safety and security
  • a strong bond with the family
  • a deep sense of the importance and value of the family
  • a harmonious atmosphere in the family

The planet is in svakshetra (its own house). The receipt of wealth without particular effort, a career in a bank or in education, excellent speech, learning, a happy family life, a strong imagination, a beautiful face, good eyesight, wholesome nourishment, poeticalness.(James Braha)

This is a proud person, possibly as a consequence of good earnings and thanks to having many friends and numerous sexually favourable opportunities. There may be few children or none at all. They are talented in the field of satire; they have the opportunity to eat very well. (Tom Hopke)

Wealth, pride, philistine interests. If the planet is afflicted, two or more marriages are possible, cool relations with the partner, an absence of sons (if Jupiter is also afflicted). The sources of income depend on the condition of the 2nd house and the nature of its ruler. (Shri G.S. Agarwal)

Upayas (methods of harmonisation) for the 2nd house:

  1. To watch over one’s diet: how, what, where and with whom we eat.
  2. To watch over one’s speech — respectful, reverent, conscious speech.
  3. To be scrupulous and honest in money matters.
  4. To engage in self-education and in association with wise people.
  5. To give children a family upbringing and education.
  6. To serve and worship one’s parents, seeing in them a part of God — the manifestation of the masculine and feminine Divine principle.
  7. To feed the poor and students.
