The Growth and Development of Astronomy and Astrophysics in India and the Asia-Pacific Region
The proceedings of the ninth International Conference on Oriental Astronomy, held at Pune on 15-18 November 2016. Some fifty papers: siddhantas and karanas, observatories, calendrical systems, archaeoastronomy, the history of observation in India, China, Japan and Southeast Asia.
For our own search the section on Saurapaksha tables matters. It names the principal ones outright — Makaranda's Makaranda Sarini (1478), the Pratibhagi Ganakananda and the Tyagarthi manuscripts — and sets their longitudes against modern values: for the Sun, for instance, it gives the discrepancies by year and by sign.
Such a comparison is rare. Sources usually either describe tables or compute with them, without showing how far they depart from the truth; here it is shown.
