Hora Sara of Prithuyasas, translated by R. Santhanam
The Hora Sara is ascribed to Prithuyasas, and ascribed by himself: in the colophon of each chapter he calls himself the son of the immortal Varahamihira. That is how the book reads — as a continuation of his father's, written by someone who knew it from the inside.
The frame is the same as the Brihat Jataka's, but the book is shorter and at points states plainly what the father left as a hint. For checking rules this is worth a great deal: where Varahamihira gives a verse open to two readings, Prithuyasas often writes it out.
Translated by R. Santhanam, with notes. Santhanam is also known for his translation of the Nashta Jataka, and his notes are consistent in separating what the original says from what later practice adopted.
