Bandhana Yoga
Bandhana Yoga in Vedic astrology mainly indicates that individuals are subjected to restraint, arrest, capture, detention, imprisonment, slavery, confinement, and similar circumstances due to factors beyond anyone's control, opponents, or interested authorities without any reason or on criminal charges for violating the law or through the restriction of freedom for political reasons.
A weak lord of Lagna (ascendant) and weak Saturn together or separately cause suffering and difficulties in life, including imprisonment or confinement. Rahu, the significator, is sent to prison.
In his Jataka Tatva XI.35-42, Maharishi states that Papa-grahis, i.e., malefic planets, placed in the 12th, 2nd, 5th, and 12th houses indicate bandhana, i.e., restriction. An equal number of planets placed in the 2nd and 12th, or in the 5th and 9th, or in the 6th and 12th, or in the 3rd and 11th, or in the 4th and 10th, give rise to Bandhana Yoga.
Bandhana Yoga also arises if malefic planets occupy the 2nd, 5th, 9th, and 12th houses at the time of birth, Lagna falls in the signs of Aries, Taurus, or Sagittarius, when a person will be bound with a rope or cord, or in Gemini, Libra, Aries, or Virgo signs, when a person will be shackled with handcuffs or iron chains, or in Pisces, Cancer, or Capricorn signs, when an unbound person will be confined in a castle or fortress or a heavily guarded prison, or in the sign of Scorpio, when a person will be imprisoned in an underground cellar.
Bandhana Yoga also arises if the lords of Lagna and the 6th house occupy a kendra or trine in conjunction with Saturn. If benefic aspects of Bandhana Yoga, as described above, are temporary, then the problems are temporary, but if malefic factors manifest, the person is likely to undergo very severe treatment.
Lagna, or the lord of Lagna, and the Moon, afflicted by cruel malefic influences or malefics, the 4th house and its lord or the 9th house and its lord, or the 10th house and its lord, afflicted in a similar manner, force a person to commit evil deeds, become a criminal, and suffer punishment from authorities. A person enters a criminal career if Rahu afflicts the Moon and the lord of the 10th house at the time of birth. Ketu, placed in the 10th house, compels a person to commit heinous acts and be impure in their decisions.
In the case of Mahatma Gandhi, born in Libra ascendant, Saturn occupied the 2nd house in Scorpio sign, and the Sun was in the 12th house in Virgo, just as Ketu was in the 4th house and Rahu was in the 10th house, which is why he was often placed under house arrest or imprisoned by the British authorities for political reasons. Similarly, Jawaharlal Nehru, born in Cancer ascendant, had Saturn in the 2nd house and Rahu in the 12th house, and he also suffered from imprisonment, like Gandhi. Ramkrishna Dalmia, born in Gemini ascendant, had the Sun in the 3rd house and Rahu in the 11th house; he was imprisoned and punished for his misconduct and illegal activities. Aung San Suu Kyi, born in Virgo ascendant, has Ketu occupying the 4th house and the Sun conjoined with Saturn and Rahu in the 10th house; she experienced a prolonged period of imprisonment due to her political beliefs. Mars, placed in the 8th or 12th house, if not associated with benefics, leads to hospitalization, life abroad, or imprisonment. Mars, Rahu, and Saturn, all three occupying kendras, indicate imprisonment.
B.V. Raman states that Bandhana Yoga arises when the lords of Lagna and the 6th house are in trine or quadrant in conjunction with Saturn, Rahu, or Ketu. Mercury and/or Saturn, placed in the 8th house from Lagna, indicate death in prison by hanging.

271. Bandhana Yoga
Definition.—If the lord of the Lagna and the 6th join a kendra or thrikona with Saturn, Rahu or Kethu, the above yoga is given rise to.
Results.—The native will be incarcerated.
Remarks.—The cause of the imprisonment is not made clear in this yoga. Imprisonment may be due to political or criminal offences. The lords of Lagna and the 6th should occupy a kendra or thrikona in association with Saturn or Rahu or Kethu. If the lord of Lagna happens to be Saturn, by implication the evil is either lessened or completely neutralised. Benefic aspects lessen the evil.

Bandhana Yoga is called the combustion of Lagnesh by debilitated Sun. This combination harms health, confines a person to bed, and can even send them to prison.

And here's what's happening. Through analysis, it has been discovered that the person is currently in a period plus two sub-periods of planets that activate a strong and burdened Bandhana Yoga in the horoscope.
In Jyotish classics, a planetary combination is described in which if any planet has an equal number of planets in the 2nd, 12th, or 5th, 9th, or 6th, 8th houses from it, it forms Bandhana Yoga - imprisonment in a prison, isolation. Other sources also mention the 3rd, 11th, and 4th, 10th houses.
If this yoga is formed from Lagna, then the confinement can be physical (it should be noted that it is not necessarily in prison, it can also be in a hospital, for example; for actual imprisonment, other factors in the chart are also necessary).
If the yoga is formed from Arudha Lagna, then the person's reputation will suffer, their name will be tarnished or stained, their image will undergo a crisis, people may turn away from them, communication will be difficult or reduced to zero. It's as if you are immersed in communication "isolation".
An even more complex situation arises if the yoga involves a planet that is the Atma Karaka in the horoscope. In this case, the person is guaranteed mental, emotional, and even social suffering, they will feel locked up (as described above - walled up in a concrete wall) in prison, without being physically in it, there will be difficulties in communicating with others, their actions will not achieve their goals at all or almost not.
How burdensome or, on the contrary, alleviated the situation will be, as well as THROUGH WHOM OR WHAT difficulties will come and "imprisonment" will be activated - will be shown by specific planets participating in the yoga and aspects, which need to be analyzed objectively and individually. Sometimes this can be realized as voluntary isolation from the environment, sometimes it can be forced, not by one's own will.
What area this "prison confinement" will manifest in is also related to the indicators of the planet involved in Bandhana Yoga, as well as the houses it rules in the horoscope.
For example, Mercury as an indicator of communication, money, business, connections, and communications - fully manifests problems in these areas (as described above in the example). If Mercury also rules the 7th house of the horoscope - problems with business partners, and partners in general, are guaranteed.
If it is Venus - problems will manifest in isolation from a partner or the partner themselves (up to a breakup), difficulties with a car (for example, a serious breakdown that prevents driving), absence of travel, or problems during trips, or, for example, a trip may be canceled at the last moment, and so on.
If it is the Sun - there may be problems with the body that can lead to hospitalization, or separation from the father due to a quarrel or for some other reason, as well as problems in resolving issues with authorities, official structures, and representatives of power. There may also be actual imprisonment of the father (if, of course, there are other confirmations of this in the chart).
As a rule, when the period changes to a more favorable one, the problems either resolve or are minimized. To alleviate the situation, it is necessary to resort to specific corrective measures (upayams), which are assigned individually based on the specific indicators of the horoscope and the planets participating in the yoga. Or, accept it as it is, living through this part of karma as a necessary period, very significant for the purification of the soul.
